Live from St. Louis.............
.......it's URI basketball!!
Now visiting my Missouri relatives to celebrate the New Year and to attend the Rhody-SLU game tomorrow. Eight of us going to game to root on the Rams, all of them are Mizzou fans, so they have no qualms in being Ram fans for the game. Will try to provide some color commentary and game details.

That is great Obadiah. Awesome to be at the A10 Opener!! Look forward to hearing about the game and the crowd at the game
Here is the SLU message board link. Maybe you can be a guest poster there.
Bill Koch will be at the URI Game then going to the PC Butler game on Sunday afternoon.

Re: Live from St. Louis.............
Beautiful day here in St. Louis - cloudless skies and temp near 50. We are staying west of the city, about 40 minutes drive to Chaifetz Arena. We will be leaving for the game shortly and getting into game day spirit by putting on our Rhody gear! Tickets here are pricey and above similar seats at Ryan. Seats are located six rows up and in line with the basket - $50 apiece.

Let us know how the crowd looks, I thought SLU usually does pretty well for attendance but I'm not sure if it's been great recently with how bad they've been.

Arrived and now in our seats which actually face corner of court on a angle to basket. Team is on floor practicing shooting. Hassan is out there practicing.

Re: Live from St. Louis.............
Very nice arena - spacious lobby which runs around arena at level two thirds of height of seating bowl and leads to entrances to seats. To our left is student section and band area which are the only bench seats in arena.

Arena has a video boards at each upper corner of arena, each the size of the one at Ryan.

Re: Live from St. Louis.............
Do they allow beer drinking in the Arena? I have been to Dayton a couple of times and the people drink quite a lot of beer and they average 12,000 plus fans for just about every game.

Beer is served in cups at all concession stands and there is one area where you can get bottled beer. You can bring the beer to your seat.

Enjoy...and look for that quiet point on a home FT, when you can scream out "MISS!!" and come home and hear yourself on DVR... That's good stuff.

Looking good other than some bad foul shooting and a few defensive lapses. JT not having a great game.

Obadiah,
We need to send you to all the road games
Was that the most dominating performance we have ever had on National TV?
How was the crowd feeling?
Anyone there talking about their incoming recruits? They need something to talk about considering how ling this season is going to be.
Ford has some great recruits coming in next year:
#56 ESPN Jordan Goodwin 6'4" SG
Hasahn French 6'7" PF ESPN 4 Star. I have seen French play and he is an absolute beast, very strong, like a bull. very powerful rebounder.
and then already for 2018
#9 ESPN Carte'Are Gordon 6'8" PF. Don't know when the last time a A10 Team had a Top 10 Recruit

Re: Live from St. Louis.............
Not much to add to what has already been said about game. While SLU isn't a top tier team, a win on the road and by this margin is significant. The Rams' swarming defense was terrific and apart from four treys by Elliott Welmer and some Aaron Hines lane acrobatics, the SLU offense was stifled. This was the biggest margin loss for SLU in the nine year history of Chaifetz
Sitting behind URI bench, you had to be impressed with the great vocal support the bench provided on every significant play. Will Leviton sat at end of bench and was a real pepper pot for his teammates and the fact he got a minute of playing time was nice to see.

Some final comments on the SLU game. Very impressed with Chaifetz Arena. Unlike Kingston and it's high water table, Chaifetz is partially below grade which means lower exterior costs and those savings can put into other amenities like a two court practice gym which can be viewed from the spacious lobby, lots of concession stands, big rest rooms and white marble lobby. Ryan is a bit gloomy in comparison. Beer is readily available.
On the downside, it cost us $15 for parking. Also despite a big lobby, the entrance turnstiles are close to doors and very cramped which requires them to use a outside canopy to protect ticket holders from elements.
Like most schools, conference play draws bigger crowds and the URI game with 7,945 in attendance was largest of season, a bit larger than their game against P5, Kansas State. Given quality of team and no students, crowd was a bit subdued even in the t-shirt toss. Ryan crowds are more energized.
The SLU band was great - about 50 members and they use a full drum set and electronic guitar. No piped in music is used and the band plays throughout game with lots of innovative music. URI band pales in comparison and we need a complete re-do in this facet of game day. Last, Ryan PA system and announcer way better.

Band plays "This Bud's For You." Hysterical.
I asked Thorr if we should play the theme song from Narragansett, assuming they made one...
Or maybe the Block Island Ferry theme...

For a cheap beer I'd rather have paint thinner. At least it won't smell skunked right out of the can like Narragansett does.

"What I like the best about this beer is the taste," he says. "It's not, like, smooth. It's not drinkable. But that's what is good about it. When you drink it down your throat, it gives you a good feeling, like George Washington is actually going down your throat to fight the Brits and the Redcoats." A true patriot.
