It's brief but has some nice quotes about Powell from his coach.

In context form where he's been and where he is now, I would give him a A for the semester grade. It has been a nice transition to watch, the before and after shows the great influence of coaching/teaching has upon this program.

It's no secret, that I was not a fan of Powell's last year, or earlier this season.
However, he has obviously worked to cut down on his two cardinal sins,
over dribbling, and driving into the lane and getting stuffed or turned over.
Staff has stayed on his case about these, and he's reaping the benefits of hard work and good coaching.
He is now, a real positive factor on this team, and without question, part
of his team's bright future.

I don't think your early assessments were wrong, they were just early. You can't always tell.

With Mike's improvement and his hard work, I'm now wondering if there are times next year when he and EC are on the court at the same time.

He did fall into bad habits a couple of times today ... especially driving to the basket when he should have pulled up for an 8 or 10-footer. However, his overall play was solid and he did hit a couple of baskets when GS got close.

In Mike's defense, he had a man out at the 3 point line(cough...Nik...cough) one time who should've cut backdoor as he went to the basket. Another time he was fouled and didn't get the call. Myself and many others next to me thought he deserved a foul call as well. A third time you could see he was looking to pass it to Hare on the way to the basket, but the defense closed off what little opening there was left and Hare didn't move to a new spot. I wouldn't fault Powell for the first couple. The third seemed ill advised...especially since Hare didn't seem to be playing well today.
Mike's playing really good ball lately.

I sit in the 300s, so I could've missed the details. I almost didn't post that since Mike has been playing so well lately. He's playing with confidence and instills it in the rest of the team when he's on the court. He's got great coaches, of course, but he's obviously listening to them.

I agree. You can definitely tell he's listening to the coaches. In my opinion, if people watch how he's been playing the last few games, he does what's necessary WHEN it's necessary. He's really becoming a leader. He manages the game well. He's starting to hit shots, but he's doing it when he's needed to jump start the offense. He's slowly becoming a pass first, shoot second point guard....and when he does shoot, he's starting to hit a decent percentage of them.
PC Game:
3-9 FG 33%
2-5 3pt 40%
4-5 Free Throws %80

SMU
4-5 FG 80%
3-3 3pt 100%
7-7 Free Throws 100%

Georgia State
4-11 FG 36%
1-2 3pt 50%
0-0 Free Throws

Overall he's shooting 41% from 3pt land. He's 68.6% from the free throw line.....not bad for your first real "good year of coaching".

He's still shooting 31% from the field, which is not acceptable.
The rest of his game us sure coming along, though.

More importantly, the Rams look noticeably worse whenever he isn't in the game. When he and Munford were both out for a couple minutes in the first half, it was especially dire.

Have to love how he is maturing as a PG in a short period of time. Kudos to DH and the staff for shaping Powell into the PG we will need to win games.

Hello all and happy holidays to ya.

I am excited that the team has stepped up
to the staffs challenge for them to play better. Their efforts have
resulted in a few wins and just better ball to watch overall.

Kudos to Mike too, he's putting in the work and this is
what can happen when you work.

I tried to teach Michael:
"When face to face with adversity, there is no cop-out".

BTW, Rod, Dude and the rest of you , I 'll be in town for
the Charlotte game. Let's celebrate the win, grab a bite,
a beer, and share a few laughs afterwards.

How bout it?

Please convey to Mike how impressed we are in the growth of his play. It's obvious he's working his tail off, making smarter decisions, and just improving in every aspect of his game. He's a joy to watch.

74 I second that, as a Rhody fan watching him develop has been fun, can't wait to see the guys develop further, looks like the sky is the limit for this team. GO RHODY!

Sounds good to me too! Mews Tavern sounds good. I think the last Rhody player's family member I spoke to was Will Daniels aunt during one of the games many years ago in Kingston (or mother...I forget which...I'm pretty sure it was his Aunt. Wonderful woman.).

Anyone heard from Mike's father lately? Our last few posts on here were about meeting at the Mews after the Charlotte game. How should we go about setting this up? ATP?
