Cyril is going to be good...he's a freshman.....what's KI's excuse being a senior?
Oh that's right, he's not that good......
SR needs to play more and some of our starters less......

RIFan, it already has......it will get worse.....we aren't a lock to win any game at this point......
Total disarray seems to be the norm now......Hurley is going to "coach" his way out of a job sooner than later I guess......

We have no inside game to speak of RIFan.....at least Hass would be there for putbacks and rebounds......and blocks.....but even without him, this is crapola.....
And our 3 pt. shooting has been lousy for the most part....no consistent shooters.....
This board will again be a happy place....our wins feel like losses.
The bench won this game though......plus Cyril. He's a bright spot.

The road games will be fun......actually the way things are going, we aren't going to get much support at home either.....
Just very disillusioning......this team plays well in fits and starts, with no continuity whatsoever......and when we stink, we REALLY stink.....
A bunch of guys that just met in a parking lot to play shirts and skins......that's an apt description of this team.....what a coaching job

Well, it's a win.
People who bet the over/under must've been hanging on the edge of
their seats.
17 rebounds by Langevine!
Other than that, 10 points from our frontcourt.
Dowtin shows he has a shot, but as usual, no assists.
EC 18 shots, 23 points.
Robinson probably had the best game of anyone, all around.
Rams 6-24 from 3. Horrid.
W&M had a load of chances to get even, at one point,
and shot only 65% at the line.
3,570 in attendance.
Just a blah game, all around.

Rod, no knockdown shooters to be found.......
Cyril will be very good....Dowtin I think will be OK.....SR might be our best guard right now.......KI will not be missed.....wish Berry could play D.....
We will be better with Hassan back....but that doesn't mean most of the problems will disappear.....
Anyway...I hope when he does return, that DH keeps playing Cyril and puts them together....but you know he'll play KI too much......this team needs an identity...they have none right now, even the defense isn't consistent any more.

Re: Game 12: William and Mary Thursday Dec 22 @7:00pm Ryan Center
Rambone - glad you watched this one.
I know many don't read the details, but I'll give my thoughts anyways:
Positives:
We won without Martin and Thompson
9 steals
2.14 assist to turnover ratio - for comparison Virginia is #1 in country at 2.15 per game and UCLA #2 at 1.91
24 bench points
21-4 edge in points of turnovers
Langevine with 17 rebounds
Langevine, Dowtin, Robinson - all played well off the bench
EC scored and showed some streaks of having some burst - not as efficient as I'd like
Negatives:
Poor shooting - 25% from behind arc and 39% overall
Let them back into the game with bad 3 point defense
Jarvis was quiet
Iverson was bad
Berry was blah
We were aggressive in first half and settled for half court sets in the second
EC attacked early and settled for jump shots in the second
The officiating was...nevermind - not making excuses.
Martin being out is forcing this team to play differently. He was our leading scorer, leading defender, and a Sr. Leader. If there is a positive, it's that we've seen Langevine mature in his absence. I wonder if we'll see some Langevine and Martin combo lineups when he returns. Thompson is a role player, but I like what he brings with his length on D and his ability to stretch the zone.
I know I'm in the minority, but the key to me prior to Dayton (Holy Cross, W&M, STL) was just survive and advance. Get healthy. Get your leader back. Get some confidence (obviously hasn't happened yet) and hopefully take down a good Dayton team. We've taken care of the first two roadblocks and now head to STL with a chance to win one more without Hassan. He is the cornerstone to this team.
If we don't take care of business in his return then that's on us - and Hurley? Until then? Survive. Advance. Get healthy.
Ugly game, as they normally are, but a win without Hassan.
On to STL.

Re: Game 12: William and Mary Thursday Dec 22 @7:00pm Ryan Center
This should end the Berry talk...it's not that he's just 'not that good' on defense...he couldn't cover the Red Auerbach statute that is SITTING DOWN in Fanueil Hall. Too bad...seems like a great guy, good hands around the basket...but he couldn't cover me, and I have only slightly more mobility than aforementioned statue. He can't score enough to make up for his defense, which is way beyond "below average". Did he gain all or most of the weight back? He almost seems slower than last year...
Not exactly a convincing or confidence-instilling win. About the only thing left to hope for is the old "playing down to the level of their competition" shtick.... yuck.

I don't know if it's necessarily playing not to lose, or just a change in pace for whatever reason. We have 3, 4 if you include Stan, veteran guards. Guards control tempo. Be smart, but be aggressive. When you have superior athletes you need to control the tempo. I think they did that effectively at times in the first. Needs to happen for an entire game.

Disagree on:
Berry - was not good enough to be 'blah'....you can't give up twice as many points on defense as you score on offense and call that 'blah'...that is...bad. Really not sure where he fits in at this point.
EC..."bursts"...saw a lot of shots and points...that's good, but didn't really see 'bursts'...not like the last year he played or even the first two games of this year. This guy is/still can be good and needs to be good, but he does not have anything like the 'burst' he used to. Just not seeing it.
Langevine has been starting, so I wouldn't consider him as 'bench contribution'. He does seem to be getting a little better every game. I get that Hurls pulls people after 2 fouls in the first half, but really...seemed like he needed to be in there more still in the first half. They were not going to lose the game if he picked up his third in the first half...seems it would have helped with his development to keep him in for more of the 1st half.
And sad to say...their most 'fluid' offense...was that confounded 3 man weave that they broke out a couple times. They have that down pat...it almost looks like that's all they do in practice sometimes...

^ Yup, my fault on grouping Langevine into bench players - still getting used to him in starting lineup.
As for EC comment: By bursts I mean attacking the rim a little more than in previous games. Need more of that.

Not ready to give up on Berry most of time he's in there with 4 guards it's a no win for him. Would like to see him play together with Hass should take a lot of the defense pressure off him. Wasn't he 2-3 tonight think friggin Jarvis was 2-11?

Not sure how 4 guards made a difference. He couldn't cover any-one...not a single person...and in space on the baseline, he got flat out embarrassed. What good is it if he's 2-3 in the same time span that he's giving up 5-5?brady1 wrote:Not ready to give up on Berry most of time he's in there with 4 guards it's a no win for him. Re: Game 12: William and Mary Thursday Dec 22 @7:00pm Ryan Center
I'd say we looked a little better than we did against Hoky Cross and William and Mary I think is a little bit better of a team.
They were also pretty confident coming off back to back 100 plus point games.
They really got hot in the second half from three and we were just unable to put our foot down. As usual.
We really look like an unorganized mess.
We'd make a couple great looking plays in a row and then follow it with two horrible plays. That's what we've seemed to do the whole year.
No consistency.
Mediocre.
But I'm pretty happy after this win. I never really thought it was in doubt.
We really need Hass back for the Dayton game....
