Week #7 - Games of Interest

Unread post by Obadiah »

The release of the latest rankings today in both the AP Top 25 Poll and the USA Today Poll finds no A-10 teams in the rankings nor are any getting votes in the others category.

In the AP poll, Duke holds the #5 slot and Cincinnati gets the #24 slot. Valparaiso gets 9 votes in the others category.

In the USA Today poll, Duke holds the #4 position and Cincinnati gets #23. Valparaiso gets one vote.

Villanova continues as the #1 ranked team in both polls.

The cumulative won-lost record of URI OOC opponents moves up to 75-49, a winning percentage of .605, a slight increase from the previous week.

Limited action on Monday evening.

In the A-10:

Jackson State at Duquesne. 7 PM.

Army at St. Bonaventure. 7 PM.

In games involving URI OOC opponents:

Tennessee State at Duke. 7 PM. On ESPN2.

Belmont at UW-Milwaukee. 8 PM. On ESPN3.

Valpo is not getting enough love for the Top 25. 9-2 and only losses are to Oregon and Kentucky. Alec Peters is averaging an absurd 25-10.

Watching this Tennessee St team really compete with Duke is sickening. I wanted to see URI compete with Valpo like this. IT IS A TOUGH ENVIRONMENT THAT VALPO.

Both Duquesne and St. Bonaventure came out winners tonight over average level competition.

Also, Duke beat a good Ohio Valley team in Tennessee State, 75-65.

Belmont outlasted Milwaukee, 62-56.

William & Mary won its second game in a row where they scored over 100 points. This one over high scoring Savannah State, 112-85. The Tribe shoots lots of threes and this game was no exceptions as they hit a season high of 19 threes on 44 attempts. Their trey success rate definitely varies with quality of the competition.

Rhody natives (or any cbb fan for that matter) might want to keep an eye on Butler this year. Aside from just being a monster team right now, this is the senior year for forward Andrew Chrabascz. Some people may remember he's a guy from Portsmouth who was trained up by Chris Herren while he was in high school. He leads the team in minutes this year and is a critical leader for a squad that has knocked off a bunch of ranked teams already, including Cincy and Indiana this past weekend. They will play their last OOC game against UVM on Wednesday at 7pm on Fox Sports.

Saw that...what is UP with that guy?
Not that I think fighting is good (not I think it's always "not good" either) but if he was a hockey player, he'd pull that once and have the snot beat out of him and it (probably) wouldn't happen again.

Watched Kentucky-Louisville,
Great game, with some mind boggling,
spectacular plays.
You watch a game at that level, and you realize the
massive talent gap that exists in most collegiate sports.
The haves always eat well. The rest get the scraps.
It's just a fact of life.

It is a HUGE gap - in addition to the spectacular athletic plays by many, that Monk dude can shoot. Not just shoot, but has no fear whatsoever (despite not one of his better 3 pt nights - down 6, under a minute? 28 footer? No problem). Watched a little UNC and while they didn't need him much tonight - love watching Justin Jackson shoot it also.

Fairfield 1.5 point favorites to beat BC defeated the Eagles 89-83 at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
BC has now lost to Nichols State, Kansas State, Richmond, Harvard, Hartford and Fairfield.
Going to be a long, long Atlantic Coast Conference Season for the Eagles.

BC plays PC at the Conte Forum this Friday. Then they open against downtrodden Syracuse at the Carrier Dome on January 1st.

It literally can't be any worse than last year. They didn't win a single ACC game!

What a fall from grace their football and basketball teams have taken.

Awful decisions firing Jeff Jags and Skinner.

Anyone catch Coach K, saying
Grayson Allen was punished enough,
and there would be no suspension?
Talk about being an enabler to bad conduct.
The punk needs to be suspended.
Or some Randy Wilds type needs to put him
in la la land with a good elbow.
Allen is a disgrace.

On the strength of a 54 point second half offensive onslaught, Boston College spanks PC, 79-67. Just think other than the givens of tournaments, this was the only true road game on the Friars' puny OOC schedule and they manage to lose it to an inept BC team. I guess gloating over 31-0 runs versus low level D-1 teams was not enough to fuel PC hubris, so now, Yikes, they have to hurt our RPI.

In an A-10 game just concluded, Richmond loses a road test at Oral Roberts, 87-72, and the Spiders' OOC record falls to 6-6.

Also, Holy Cross comes up a 68-59 winner over Marist.
