Martin and Thompson
Re: Martin and Thompson
Agreed Dayton is the game we really need Hassan back for, but it would be nice to get him at least some limited action before then if he is ready. Would just be nice to knock some of that rust off before getting thrown out there against Dayton.

Re: Martin and Thompson
Don't disagree. But assuming Hass can be a full-go for the Dayton game either way, I'd love to see if they could give him limited minutes against SLU while managing to keep from putting him and Cyril on the court at the same time. I'd love to have that in my back pocket without film of it out there for anyone to prepare for it with. At Dayton might be an opportune time to break it out.
A Cyril/Hassan frontcourt would make us so much more tough up front than we have been in a long time. I know Cyril doesn't give us a ton on offense, but if we are being honest neither has Iverson.

Re: Martin and Thompson
Yeah, that makes plenty of sense to me as well. I was even thinking as limited as bringing him off the bench against St. Joes. Give him 10-15 minutes maybe just to get out there and get up and down the court, bang around for some rebounds here and there and get some of the rust off. This is of course kind of hoping it is a game that we are ahead and able to control his minutes a bit more.

Re: Martin and Thompson
I'm liking the idea of Langevine and Martin starting.
For you greybeards, it's kind of like a junior version
of Kenny Green and Bonzie Colson.
Your shot-blocking forward who can give you offense,
and your defensive-rebounding-space eater in the middle.
Bonzie could pass off the high post against a zone.
Kenny was often on the receiving end of those passes.
Only question I have of Langevine is, how good are his hands?

You can't really teach "good hands" but hopefully there will be some improvement there, he's only a frosh......

Could also be the game is playing fast for him and
he's anxious.
Like many players, when the game slows down, things
fall into place.

.....we need to be 2-0 going into the Dayton game, so for me HM, if cleared and ready for duty, has has to go for the Joes game....just can't run the risk of going 1-1 into Dayton game and coming out of that with 1-2......maybe I think more of SJU, even at home.....Maybe it is the Martelli factor....

I like the idea of Langevine starting too, do you sit Iverson though? Probably if this option was possible. Without taking St. Louis for granted, this would be the game to mess around with the lineups.

based on posts, we need to go 15-0 into our last 3 games. is that gonna happen? I have some doubts.section(105) wrote:.....we need to be 2-0 going into the Dayton game, so for me HM, if cleared and ready for duty, has has to go for the Joes game....just can't run the risk of going 1-1 into Dayton game and coming out of that with 1-2......maybe I think more of SJU, even at home.....Maybe it is the Martelli factor....

Re: Martin and Thompson
So do we have any idea on what CT's time frame is? It seems like Hassan could see time against SLU at the earliest and Dayton at the latest but I haven't heard too much about CT.
I'm with TP that it would be nice for Hassan to get at least limited minutes against SLU. I know SLU sucks and we are better than them even without Hassan and CT but it's still a road conference game which can always be challenging. If not SLU then he should at least get some minutes against St Joes to prepare for the Dayton game.

Sit Hass for STL it's too soon
Play him 15-20 minutes for the SJU game to get him ready for the Flyers

I think he has good hands. Hard to get 17 rebounds without them.rodfromcranston wrote:I'm liking the idea of Langevine and Martin starting.

Re: Martin and Thompson
......thus far I see CL's rebounds the result of; positioning, attitude and desire to be a rebounder, instincts of missed shot angles and hands to gather ball in, On offensive end he needs to work on going right up for pit back rather than bringing the ball down, really like what I have seen with his board work....back to another topic, would like to see Hass and Cyril get time together once HM returns.....

I would, too...but - call me crazy - I still think one of their better looks is Iverson at the foul line, finding Hass underneath...haven't seen it enough, but not sure any other combo works that as well.section(105) wrote:......thus far I see CL's rebounds the result of; positioning, attitude and desire to be a rebounder, instincts of missed shot angles and hands to gather ball in, On offensive end he needs to work on going right up for pit back rather than bringing the ball down, really like what I have seen with his board work....back to another topic, would like to see Hass and Cyril get time together once HM returns.....

Re: Martin and Thompson
Thanks BillyBoy. Just did a short google on the patella tendon.
Says it takes days to weeks to heal. So I'm sure he's probably pretty close to 100% right now.
I wonder how much he will play since Jeff is playing so well now.
I know Jeff is moreso Jarvis's sub, but I wonder if he'll get less than he had been getting. I know he's a better defender than Jeff but Jeff is beating him on the offensive end.
Either way, I feel comfotable with both of them on the court.

Christion left for Lousiana today because of the tragedy involving his uncle. I don't know how long he's going to be there.

Re: Martin and Thompson
How is Dowtin "beating Garrett on the offensive end"'?
Did you watch last night's game?
Garrett has the ability to put the ball on the floor
and drive.
He's also a good passer. Dowtin has shown neither talent so far.
Dowtin has TWO assists all season!
You want him subbing for the point guard?
To me, he's clearly a two guard.
Thompson is a far more dynamic player than Dowtin, when healthy.

Dowtin is a two guard. I like his offensive game better than Thompson's, even though Thompson is the better athlete. Thompson is a really good defensive player, but Dowtin isn't too bad either. I can see Dowtin taking some of Thompson's minutes.

I'm saying he's beating Christion on the offensive end right now. I know chris hasn't been playing, but I think he's shown better offense the last few games than Chris had shown when he was playing.rodfromcranston wrote:How is Dowtin "beating Garrett on the offensive end"'?

And Jeff has been subbed in for Jarvis when he gets a breather since jeff came back from his injury.
And I agree he's a better two guard. Last night was probably the only time he was being a little aggressive bringing the ball up the court.
I was mostly just posing the question wondering what Dan will do.

Re: Martin and Thompson
I think Dowtin and Thompson similarly shoot the ball well. If Dowtin's shot is really hot right now that is great, but Thompson started his freshman year shooting great for several weeks. Thompson also defends/rebounds far above Dowtin's current level.
The issue with them and in a few places on the team is if players will distinguish themselves.
I think its a good thing that we have many players that can really knock down an open 3ball. Robinson is the only guard we have that isn't lights out in an empty gym. The rest of them can shoot it. Now in the games? They all have their good stretches.
Jarvis Garret handles that ball better than anyone URI has had on the roster in over 10 years.
