Quick POLL - Who is the 5th Starter Tonight?

Unread post by ramster »

Unfortunately Hassan Martin, our dominant, A10 POY candidate will need to sit out tonight. Who do you think will be in his place?

I voted Akele but after looking at their roster I think you gotta go with Langevine. Their leading scorer, Brandan Stith, looks like a big boy. Listed at 6'7" 240lbs. Could be a tough matchup for the foul prone Iverson and Langevine.

Figures...we would probably have controlled the opposition's best player with Hassan in there.....instead Stith won't be a stiff against us.....

I would think Langevine too, but the way he's been fouling, he'll have 2 after 2 minutes and be out of the game. What are ODU's bigs like. Is it possible we start 4 guards with Robinson?

One of them (Brandan Stith) is averaging 13.3 points and 7.3 rebounds while the other (Denzell Taylor) is averaging 4.1 points and 9.4 rebounds. Probably would get killed on rebounds if we go four guards.

Their line up is relatively small:
Brandon Stith 6'7"
Denzel Taylor 6'7"
BJ Stith 6'5"
Ahmad Caver 6'2"
Jordan Baker 6'2"

Will be interesting to see who DH goes with.
Akele would give the more experienced guy in terms of minutes played. He would give a better capability of running. Maybe DH is willing to try really pushing the running game and get away from these games in the 60's. He would probably be my second choice to Berry and could get the start because I don't think Berry will.
Langevine seems a logical choice but foul prone, not really shown a shooting touch yet. He has missed a bunch of point blank 2-3 foot shots already seeming to lose control of the ball - but he has shown some good, solid flashes of ability.
Berry could match up well and give some offensive punch as his 15 points in 13 minutes in the Dayton win last year showed. He would be my choice but I doubt he starts tonight based on his very little PT to date
Robinson might make sense. Not sure how the defense would match up but the 4-guard offense would be a tough match up for ODU. Make then run.
Any chance of a surprise starter in big Mike Layssard?

I was thinking Akele at first, but just not sure him and Iverson on the floor together is the best lineup.

Lineup is small but they're 4th in the country in offensive rebounds per game. Like I said in my other comment, we go small and we'll get killed on rebounds.

Also they are 52nd in rebounding margin and we're 153rd. Hass averages 8.1 rebounds per game and Iverson is next with 6.0.

Josephski,
It prob won't matter much as KI, Akele and Langevine will all accumulate fouls fast. Prob will split the playing time anyway. So I'd lean more to Akele for experience and overall game of rebounding, defense and scoring. Right now I only see Langevine getting the edge over Akele in rebounding. But either way could flip a coin with me. My choice would REALLY be Berry.

I picked Layssard because I don't think I have seen him play this year yet.

I don't think Berry will start, but I really hope he gets a chance to play real minutes while Hass is out.

I think because of foul situations, Langevine, Berry and Layssard will all see time tonight.
