J Garrett's Health

Unread post by NorthernRamFan »

He was transported to Backus Hospital. Let's pray he's okay. Not just about our season, he has a young family and I know we all want him to succeed.

If anyone gets info please share.

He was sitting up and was moving as he was carted off. So, that's good. Saying prayers for Jarvis.

seeing tweets on espn that he told the trainers he was fine on the way out. Hoping it was just precautionary or a concussion.

Positive signs being tweeted, wouldn't be surprised if he plays tomorrow

I don't know about tomorrow, but if he's moving and telling people he's fine that lessens my long term fears.

One thing, though, can we not say "just a concussion"? I've seen this a couple of times now. A concussion is an injury to your brain. That is never good. Big picture, it's the worst injury you can get.

He went down on a drive under the hoop and hit his shoulder area on the basket and then knocked the back of his head on the knee/leg of a cameraman. Put in a neck brace and wheeled off on a stretcher, though he was moving and sitting up and shook hands with his teammates on his way off the floor.

Just saw Jarvis walking into the convention center for dinner. He was still in his uniform and seemed fine and hugged EC and some other players and parents before he went in. Seemed like he was OK!

After seeing him on the ground for as long as he was...that is awesome (whether he plays again soon or not)

He may be feeling better today than tomorrow. In any case, the news that he is already out of the hospital and back with the team is an encouraging sign that the injury is not that serious. Best of luck for Jarvis.

He'll probably be a little [a lot?] sore tomorrow...hopefully no concussion, or he'll be out a while.....

I think we have the guard depth to survive just fine though.....

Even if he can't play, it will be great having him on the bench with the team. It surely didn't look like that was possible when he was lying on the floor. So happy he's ok.

Looked to me that when he was put on stretcher and was trying to lie down, it hurt to go completely flat. they then left him in a sitting position.

I am guessing Dan will not play him tomorrow even if he begs to play. Not worth it. It will be great to have him on the bench if he is up to it. Get well Jarvis.

He's such a warrior, this is a guy who played with a fractured face and loose teeth. You don't see toughness like that very often. Get better Jarvis, we have lots more to do this season.

Per ESPN.com article:
Coach Dan Hurley told ESPN that Garrett suffered a neck sprain and that X-rays were negative.

Saw him couple hours ago walking through Mohegan with both kids in his arms. That said, I agree it could be a thing where it just doesn't make sense to put him out there and instead play it safe. Tough kid.

Jarvis is tough. No doubt about it. Also, hIs injury made the ESPN bottom line.

Of all the cool things so far this early in the year, this is at the top of my list. Seeing top 25 scores and seeing us included and not having to wait for the random times our game comes up and things like that. I'm really liking this whole top 25 thing

Have we ever had a tougher kid? Maybe Neil or Rod can think of one, but in my 40-plus years of following URI I can't.

Not sure if anyone else saw this, but when DH was over attending to Garrett when he was down yesterday, Hurley put his palm over his face, miming a mask as if to say "do you need me to grab you one?" They both cracked up. It was awesome.

Thankfully Jarvis was not hurt badly. It didn't look very good at the time when he was being rolled off the court. Brought back unpleasant memories of EC in game 1 last season. Lucky break that it not as bad as it first appeared.
