College Gameday in Kingston for VCU game?

Unread post by RhowdyRam02 »

So I've been tracking this for a couple weeks, and I think we have a good shot at hosting ESPN College Gameday on Saturday, February 25th, and here's why.

1. Unlike the football version of Gameday, the basketball version only takes place at games that ESPN televises on Saturday. We fit the bill there.
2. Look at our schedule: http://www.gorhody.com/sports/m-baskbl/2016-17/schedule. All of our other ESPN games say what ESPN channel we're on. The VCU game says ESPN/ESPN 2. Also it's our only game with a TBA starting time. This kind of flexibility allows ESPN to put the game where they want it for Gameday.
3. One interesting note is ESPN normally likes their Gameday host game to play in prime time. They had us listed on their website with an 8 pm start time but have changed it to TBA. They have no other prime time games and we're the only game they have that's listed with a TBA start time.

Obviously nothing is finalized and they don't normally announce until about a week before the game, but based on these three things I think we're at the very least under serious consideration to host and we might in fact be the favorite as long as we do what people think we should this year.

We both may have to be in the top 25 to get gameday to come.
These are the games we are competitive against.

I was thinking about this the other day and I think it's going to depend on how both schools are doing a few weeks beforehand. If VCU has a good OOC schedule and both teams have less than 3 losses it could be. I won't be holding my breath for it though

Again, they only host Gameday where they're televising the game, not necessarily the best game nationally and they prefer the game to be prime time. Here's what we're competing against:

ESPN2
BYU at #14 Gonzaga 10 pm

ESPNU
Tulane at Temple 12 pm
Texas Tech at Oklahoma State 2 pm
Mississippi State at Vanderbilt 4 pm
Kansas State at Oklahoma 6 pm

SEC ESPN Network
Tennessee at South Carolina 1 pm
Missouri at Ole Miss 3:30 pm
LSU at Georgia 6 pm
Arkansas at Auburn 8:30 pm

ESPN3
New Mexico at Wyoming 6 pm

Really, it's between us and the BYU-Gonzaga game as hosts that week, and I believe we are their preference.

Kansas and Texas is also playing.
If they aren't already scheduled to be on ESPN by then, is there no possibility that they are scheduled later on?

Very interesting, it makes sense. Of course they'll wait until closer and see where all the potential teams are at that point but it does seem like we'd at least be in the mix.

Forgive me if I am wrong but the BIG12 has some FOX coverage.

If I had to guess, I would say that Texas plays at home on ESPN. Then if its at Kansas it will be FOX.

Longhorn Network is ESPN but FOX carries BIG12 sports also.

It's already listed as being on ESPN or ESPN2, same as ours.
