Dowtin is definitely hurting. He was limping during the layup drill.

Rhody83 wrote:Koch article on game is weird. He opens with "For the second time in program history, URI has won back-to-back games against ranked teams." What is he talking about? Much later in the article he tells us the other win was last year against Dayton. Then he finishes with "URI improved to 15-96 against ranked teams." Thanks for that insight. I like Bill Koch a lot but the article isn't good.
I noticed that, too. I had to stop and think if Brown was ranked last week.

Someone can correct me, but marching band receives academic credit, versus the pep band which does not. So if there is a home football game, all those who normally would be in the basketball pepband have to go march.

And at least we are comparable with Texas, as we both Lost to Kansas

Incredible game! Langevine is the reason we were able to win. I know I talked a lot of shit about him yesterday but without him we would have had no chance. For him to play more minutes than all of our previous games and actually contribute is huge. Iverson also had the game of his life.

Such a great game to be at and hoping tomorrow's is even better!

Also I feel bad for saying this but I have so much schadenfreude reading the Cincinnati board. That could have just as easily been this board so it's nice to see it happening to someone else.

Great game! This win should be huge in terms of our resume. Cincy got 2 preseason First Team AAC players and neither are Washington or Evans who both looked like first-teamers to me. So hopefully they don't go pull a Nebraska on us.

Great team effort. If I only had 1 game ball to give out, I'd give it to Terrell. Kept us in it when we were struggling, handled the ball with Garrett out, played great defense and when he subbed out for a minute around the 12 minute and 4 minute marks Cincy when on mini runs. The team needed every minute they could out of him tonight.

Peter, I did cry tears of joy, way too many close, frustrating losses. Contributions from everyone including a very loud rooting section. Btw those frustrating losses include the duke/sly Williams, the duke/Danny ferry and the duke/jimmy and Delroy. It's time for a payback.

Spectacular and gutsy comeback. Terrell fueled the comeback and EC finished it off. Great atmosphere. Spontaneous Rhody chants breaking out in the concourse and casino after the game. Duke fans and Cinci fans were a bit probably surprised by our excitement but days like this have not been all that common for the last 15 years. See everyone back at the Sun tomorrow.

No voice left but glad I can still type. Wow what a game. That was a good old rock fight! Cyril was an absolute man child out there tonight. Very strong and has a lot more to his offensive game then I thought. JT was the alpha male out there tonight. As Chris Disano Tweeted "Some players have brass ones. Some don't. Jared Terrell does." Sums that one up. Washington sure was a talent. Can't even imagine this team if he ended up here after he transferred. Thinking of Jarvis tonight and keep the ball rolling boys!

Stay thirsty my friends !

At first I was annoyed, but the more I've thought about it the more I'm thinking that questions were asked in a way that led to awkward phrasing on the answer and we're seeing these out of context a little. Cronin has been pretty complimentary all along and seems friendly with Dan so I doubt he'd be looking to throw shade now. If I had to guess the three years comment is just talking about the process that has been behind building our team.

What a glorious day :D
Observations 1st Game of Duke - Penn State:
- Penn State gave Duke a tougher game than the point spread of 18 predicted.
- Duke Fans were quiet and piled out of the arena at the completion of their game.
- Did Duke fans think that the winner of Cincinnati - URI would not be very good competition for them? Did they just want back to the Casino?
- Both teams looked beatable by URI

Observations URI - Cincinnati:
- Crowd was relatively small to start off. As time went on it seemed the crowd at least doubled in size from the first 10 minutes of the game
- Very slow start for Rhody except for Hassan Martin who was a beast but then 2 fouls put him on the bench in the 1st half
- Seen so many times that URI gets a big game on the schedule such as this and gets run out of the gym Looked like that could happen again
- Cincinnati defense was very tough.
- Jacob Evans 25 points and Kyle Washington 23 points were amazing. I held my breath whenever they shot. Often disappointed as their shots went down.
- EC Mathews. EC had a slow start shooting wise plus a few TOs and only had 3 points at the half. 2 years ago often comments were made that EC never had a clutch shot to win a game. That changed today. His clutch 3's in the last minutes and with 25 seconds to go were huge
- Says a lot about this team that we can beat a team as good as Cincinnati and EC not have his best game - just think what we are capable of?
- Hassan Martin. Martin was immense in the first minutes of the game, single handedly keeping us as close as we were. Rebounding, blocking shots, shooting. Martin has now made 14 consecutive FTs!!!! He made his last FT against Dartmouth, 9-9 vs Marist, 0-0 vs Brown and then 4-4 today. Who would have ever believed it? Amazing confidence he displays at the line this year. 14 points in a balance scoring attack.
- Jared Terrell. His 3 point shots were clutch and amazing. Excellent all around game, very consistent. 15 points.
- Kuran Iverson. Wow. Kuran threw two absolutely beautiful passes from the FT line down low to a breaking Hassan Martin for layups at very crucial times in the game. Led URI and tied Cincinnati game high with 5 assists. Led URI and tied Cincinnati game high with 10 rebounds. Scored 15 points.
- Jarvis Garrett. Gritty performance. Fortunately it sounds like he will be ok. Seemed like 25 minutes or more that he was down on the floor - scary moment. Brought tears to the eyes of fans when Dan Hurley gave Garrett a big hug after he was finally to his feet and about to get on the rolling stretcher with a neck brace on. And if that didn't bring tears to fans eyes then the hand shaking to Garrett by every Ram player, coach or manager just before he would leave the court would bring tears.
- Stanford Robinson. May not look it in the stat sheet but Stanford was excellent during his 26 minutes. His defense was excellence. On one key sequence Stanford grabbed the defensive rebound, raced up the court, passed to Terrell who quickly shuffled a pass to the left corner where EC buried a clutch wide open 3 pointer. Had one steal in the stat sheet but his defense was outstanding.
- Cyril Langevine. In 17 minutes 3-3 FG, 1-2 FT, 1 steal, 4 rebounds, 1 block, 1 assist, 7 points. Solid relief while Martin had foul trouble against an excellent Cincinnati team
- Christion Thompson. 16 minutes. Hit 2-2 clutch FTs late in the game. Had an excellent steal and went coast to coast for 2 big points. Handled himself very well against tough competition.
- Nikola Akele. 7 minutes. 2 assists. Had a 3 point attempt go in and out. Solid minutes and his assists came at critical junctures.

Over my lifetime I have seen many of these types of games not go URIs way. Tough start against a Top 25 team, yet this group came back, made the game close and then pulled away at the end. Amazing. So many times we don't end up the winner in games like this.

Leaving the arena Ram Fans were chanting "We Want Duke". Also was funny when fans were yelling "PC Sucks". Not sure why they were yelling about PC but they were

I think URI can beat Duke tomorrow. Can't wait. What an accomplishment that would be. You don't want to miss that. Get to the arena for the 1pm start!!

ramster - good summary. One thing I want to highlight is Stanford Robinson, who really is one of those players where the stat sheet doesn't do him justice.

Given the sizable Duke contingent, and the expected influx of more Rhody fans, should be a full house tomorrow.
Environment will be electric, with an injury depleted lineup I hope our Rams smell blood.

Either way this is, and will always be, the biggest game of the year... its downhill now. Can't say enough about the resilience and effort today against an NCAA-caliber team.

Absolutely right TP. Stanford Robinson was a huge key to today's win. He handled the PG duties well, passed well, rebounded effectively and most of all his defense was relentless.

Ram fans don't want to miss this game tomorrow. I would be quite sure that tickets can be bought at the arena tomorrow either at the Box Office or from fans of other teams. Opportunities like this do not come along very often. Playing the #1 team in the nation with one of the best teams we have had in many, many years at URI. Plus less than an hour drive. Worst case scenario you can't get a ticket, then just watch it at the Casino Bar, but I would be very confident you could land a ticket.

Also need to emphasize 80% FT shooting as URI hit 16-20 in a humongous game with lots of pressure. FT shooting gets brought up a lot on these boards when we lose, well it should also be brought up when effective and in a win.

Truly a team effort with balanced scoring and all players contributing to the win.

We beat a Top 30 team with our starting PG playing 13 minutes, and our Senior Defensive POY in the league playing 18 minutes and fouling out. Think about that.

Good points. Plus our top player having only 3 points at half time.
But regardless of who was on the floor our defensive pressure remained intense.
We beat a strong Cincinnati, picked preseason to win the AAC, without hitting on all cylinders. Imagine a win tomorrow against Duke with a stepped up performance on Sunday!!

Also was great that Deron Russell was in attendance for today's game - couldn't have picked a better game to attend to date.

Dan. Hurley.

To have a game where you are down 8 at the half to a legit NCAA team, lose your point guard, and to top it off you had a shell shocked first 10 minutes and looked like you couldn't score against their zone...to then come out and turn in probably the most important half in uri basketball since March of 98? That's coaching.

A huge plus of yesterday's foul trouble is that hass and KI didn't even play 20. They'll be ready to go.

Duke had an incredibly large number of fans yesterday. I however actually think there may be a bit less of them there today. I base this in part off the fact that there were plenty more tickets available for today's session. I think many of Blue Devils followers at the game yesterday came from all over the northeast (PA/NJ/NY/NE). They may have just come for a day trip and given their distance might not do so on back to back days. They will still none the less have a very sizeable contingent. I think many Rhody fans may have hedged their bets and waited on buying tickets for Sunday. If so, I hope they bought up all those that remained.

Funny thing Adam is that you are typically among the more positive posters over the long haul. But truthfully, it shows the gritty, never say die attitude of this year's URI Basketball Team. We know of some teams in the past may have had some players revert to one on one basketball and maybe hung their heads, and maybe relaxed on defense when they got down by 12 early on - but not this group. I tend to like 208's comments in the past referring to the fact that players on today's team know little or even care little about URI teams of 5, 10, 20 years ago. They have no idea who Jim Baron was, or Jerry DeGregorio or even Jim Harrick for that matter. These guys know about this year's team and that is where their focus is - and really should be anyway.

Just make yourself a big pitcher of Rhody Blue Kool Aid today!!!!!

We have a very, very, very realistic shot at knocking off the #1 team in the nation today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am taking credit for the win. Changed my seat midway through the first half. The Karma was terrible for me in section 25 for some reason. Left a very good seat with friends and family to go sit with my current wife in another section. Was carrying a man-bag with all my elderly man necessities in it and was holding it in my lap....finally moved it to an empty seat beside me....this change of seat and ditching of the man-bag were essential to the Ram victory....

I don't know that they don't know or don't care...I've been told they do by very reputable sources (you know who you are ;) ).
What seems really different this year is the development of the other 4 guys. Not sure they would be as good this year if EC had played last year (and before anyone loses it...that does NOT mean that EC 'doesn't make the players around him better'). None of them are afraid to step up and try to make the big play now...I do think those other guys developed in ways they might not have otherwise. It's good "now", but like Hurls said, 'last year was stolen'...(and since I paid the same $$ for season tix last year, I agree - felt like last year's investment was stolen)... When people talk about 'depth' I think it usually refers to 'off the bench support of starters'...they definitely have more of that now, but the starting lineup is 'deeper' with more guys that can carry the team for different stretches and that's huge.

Two things I'd like to see change a little from yesterday..
1. Was a short stretch of lazy passing from Stanford/Thompson...something like 3 TO's in 5 possessions it seemed
2. Out of bounds play under the hoop. That deep pass into the backcourt...can't handle that. I just keep seeing flashbacks of K Dunn stealing the game last year at the Ry. They showed at the end of the game yesterday that they can do better...please please please...scrap that long toss...?

Was critical of team during half time yesterday. In no way do I mean to be critical of any of the players and Danny. Love this team and coach. Just emotions and long standing frustration of losing taking over. Great win. Without Jarvis playing majority of the game, wow. Hopefully he is ok and will play today. Langevine played extremely well. See some Hass in him, hopefully not just wishful thinking, but closer to Hass the sequel. Also aggravated when at halftime, someone seeing that I had a URI hat on asked what conference are you guys from, the "America East"? I thought it was a Cincinnati fan at first, but I believe it was actually a Duke fan. Either way, rubbed me the wrong way.
GO RHODY!!

Should have asked the Duke fan if they were in the AAC.

The 1 to 1 comparison of Hass to Langevine is so interesting to me.

Hass looked lost against Arizona his first year. He couldn't stand a chance.

Yesterday Langevine looked above and beyond that Arizona Hass.

BUT! How amazing was Martin yesterday? Against a legit frontline? 18 minutes, 14 points 5-6 from the field and 4-4 from the line. He dominated.

He was robbed by the refs on a couple calls. The one at the end with Evans. Then the one on the airball earlier.

So while Langevine IMHO is just head and shoulders above freshman Hassan Martin(November freshman Martin), can Langevine really become just what Martin is today? because that is a special player. Even more, could Cyril go beyond what Hass is today? That will be remarkable.

Ramster said "We have a very, very, very realistic shot at knocking off the #1 team in the nation today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Now how often have we been able to say THAT????

So let's DO it!

Coincidentally, both of you were mentioned on Sportscenter this morning as being "keys to the win."
Keep up the good work.

Hass and cyril are very differentto me. Cyril is bigger and stronger than hass already, not as athletic more of a solid stopper than a shot blocker. I could see him being more like mo alie-cox than hass.

What an idiot. Further proof, not that it was needed, that I should never be posting during games. I lose all ability to act rationally about anything.

Haha, thanks ramster. Like I said, there is nothing rational about what I say during the heat of a game. Unfortunately this time I wrote it down for all to see. But I'm willing to bet there were plenty of Rhody fans getting that same feeling as I was in that first half. I couldn't be happier about how wrong I was, and have no problem owning up to it!
