http://kenpom.com/gameprep.php?g=571 (subscription required -- well worth it)

No doubt this will be a slow game. UC played fast in its first 2 huge games last year (Butler and Iowa st) and lost both on buzzer beaters. We tried to outscore them rather than shutting them down. I think this year, UC will make defense the continued focus and will try to force URI to extend its possessions late into the clock every time down the floor. Its boring to watch but it keeps us in the game against teams who maybe more offensively talented. If the speed really picks up, then i think it favors URI

Interesting talk over there. Similarities with the talk about their fanbase. A little bit of cockiness from some of there fans. Clearly some don't respect us. I hope some of their players don't respect us either. It will be a good punch in the nose when our D steps it up this Saturday.

It's understandable why they don't respect us, this is our chance to change that.

Great comments from Justin/UC fan perspective, reinforces how similar and evenly matched the teams are. The little things could make a difference - for me it boils down to TOs and fouls. Can we limit TOs on our side and create live ball TOs that we can turn into points, and can we keep our front line on the court and out of foul trouble.

UC has been one of the best teams in the country these past few years limiting turnovers. Part of that is the pace of play, but in general Caupain is tremendous handling pressure because of his size and strength.

From a UC perspective I'm most interested to see how Jacob Evans plays as the main cog in the offensive attack. In his last three games (including the NCAAT last year against St Joes), he has averaged 23 per game on only 14 shots per game. For someone as talented as Evans, he needs to shoot more because he is an incredibly tough cover with his size, deep shooting ability and athleticism. I'm sure Hurley has figured out from watching tape that Evans is the guy to worry about and not Caupain (even as preseason conference POY). Evans and Matthews should be a tremendous match-up.

Been looking forward to this one. Let's get it done! Cincy opened at -4. Kenpom has it two points. Seems like this should be a one or two possession game at the end. Seven out of the next eight games are against top 100ish schools. This is what we have been waiting for.

Yea we need this win to boost our national profile. The rest of our OOC schedule won't do that and a lot of people still do not respect the a10 enough for those games to make a huge difference. Win this game and everyone who has been questioning us being in the top 25 will realize we're legit. Lose this game and we'll have to wait for ncaa tournament time to try and make a name for ourselves.

I like us as an underdog, especially coming off a less-than-inspiring performance against Brown. A lot of fuel for the fire.

When Cincy goes into their zone, as I'm sure they will, Kuran needs to be at the high post, he's a good passer, and keep Hassan down low.....

I do too. I think the Brown scare was a blessing. If we had 3 easy wins, we may have been stunned early and often by Cinn. Now we are at least going to come in humbled and hungry. Now we see if we are worthy of our praise, we have enough talent to win no doubt. The questions that need to be answered are, are we hungry and poised enough to take down a very talented team. I hope it comes down to the wire, it'll show what we are made of. I think we are going to be better as the season goes on, but this is truly the biggest game for our program since the Harrick days. I know our guys are going to preval, this is a special group of guys, I think we are in for a magical season.

Mongo, I think what the Brown game showed the team what will happen if they don't give their best effort every night.....

We aren't good enough [yet] to beat good teams with less than that.....

This weekend is a huge litmus test no doubt....going forward, when we go on the road to play good teams, the intensity level especially has to be there....

That's exactly how we've attacked the zones that have been played against us this year. Hass never is at the foul line.

This game is going to be absolutely nerve racking.

UC will probably come out timid at first and URI will get off to a quick lead. One thing I dont like about Cronin is that he does praise the other teams players way too much. Like Its one thing to tell them you have to respect them and their game but another to make them feel like their playing Michael Jordan. It makes UC start games nervous.

I can tell you guys this. Unless somehow our luck has changed, if this game is with 4 or 5 wit under 2 minutes, even if were winning, we will lose. On either a buzzer beater or dumb foul. We just had the absolute worst luck last year losing 7 games that were under 4 points and most were just 2 point losses. In nearly all of them, we were leading late.

If thats the case, Ill just flip the channel and pray for the best result. I can't start of this year losing like that again, last year was rough. We were the better team in so many games and still lost.

Ha funny question: Since Duke plays first, what happens if some how (however very unlikely) Penn State beats Duke. Does UC and URI still try to win, or does it make losing not so bad since the loser plays duke ?

The funny part is this exact same part could have been posted by a URI fan, except for rather than just last year it would be the last 15 years or so. I guess the good news is someone has to win!

Remember with the Brown game, first of all they have a tendency to play URI and PC tough at times. They beat PC a couple of years ago and looked like world beaters, then went on to stink it up for the rest of the year. PC went on to NCAAs. Plus, after what this team has been through and what is expected of this team, whether they wanted to or now, have been looking ahead to today. This Cincinnati game and potential Duke matchup has been talked about since the games were announced. The Brown games doesn't bother me, I think it actually sets the team up better. Clearly Cincinnati is a very good team and easily will be one of our most difficult games all year. But , I think this team is more than ready. I think they win and surprise some with their effort.
FWIW, I think Marist beats Brown today, regardless of the much different results and what Danny says.

Also, the Brown game is one they could have or would have lost in the past, especially in Baron years. This year, even though close, never saw the game is serious question.

Just incase we didn't have enough reasons to be fired up about this game, the lead Cincy analyst apparently has little respect for our team overall and no respect for our defensive abilities.

Duke seems to have no luck this year. 2 more players go down, including Grayson Allen, they are going into their bench. Wow!

Edit: Allen back on the floor.
