Gruesome is an understatement...looked just awful....

Overlooking the Bears.....nope, and maybe they will find away to challenge us in ways that the two previous weak sisters of the poor did not....and that maybe will give us our first look at so the opponent is not gonna be a walk over by mid way thru the first half.....I think that will help against Cincy.....sorry, my bad wrong thread...

I think the Projo will give URI strong play this year. If they don't, I'll get the sports editor's email (URI grad) and we can all complain.
I just don't think you guys can have it both ways ... You can't defend attendance comparisons above with things like "PC draws more on average because they have 3-4x the interest in this state" and then complain when Projo headlines PC. Projo is going to cater to those who view and if PC is getting significantly more clicks on the Projo website (which I think has been mentioned here in the past), that's the audience they are going to push the stories to. It's still a business, regardless of on-court results.

Ultimately what I think will happen is as the season begins to shake out towards January and February, you might see that shift from Projo seeing a potential postseason run on the horizon, they just have to hope people haven't tuned them out by then.
Attendance and clicks equal interest so of course those are factors. But I think Top 25 should be a big factor.
And I don't think anyone is complaining about play online; it was the play in print. So clicks don't come into play there.
I say give the better team the better play. That's simple and defensible.
My point with the clicks is that projo online and projo paper are one in the same... if I'm a sports editor and I see one online getting 100 clicks an hour and another getting 25 clicks an hour, when I produce the paper I'm probably going to gear it to what seems to be a larger audience.

Other A-10 results this Tuesday:

GW edges Siena, 77-75 in a close match . GW avoided the dagger when Siena's three point shot missed with one second remaining. Jaren Sina was GW's high scorer with 14 points.

VCU wins a close one at Liberty, 64-59.

After a bad start and trailing by ten at the half, George Mason makes a big second half to punish Lebanon Valley, 90-65.

La Salle beats Delaware 74-68. The Explorers trailed by a point at the half, but came out strong in second stanza to build a 13 point lead before the Blue Hens rallied to get to within one with 4 minutes remaining. La Salle was able to turn back the threat in the closing minutes.

In games involving OOC opponents:

Penn State beat pesky Grand Canyon, 85-76.

Holy Cross was badly routed again, this time by Syracuse, 90-46.

Fairfield with a convincing win over Dartmouth, 79-62

Belmont trails Vanderbilt at the half, 36-21.

Good that we're at least building up to the weekend. Hopefully we're not "tested" scoreboard wise and needing to play our starters, but that we're given better competition to prepare for Saturday.

# 7 Kansas on the strength of a last second jumper knocked off #1 Duke last night at MSG, 77- 75.

Also, Vanderbilt, leading all the way, easily defeated Belmont, 80-66.

A-10 action is limited for Wednesday:

Brown visits URI, in a campus round game in the Hall of Fame Tip Off. The match-up is the 158th in this longstanding series in which URI leads 104-53.

1-1 Duquesne entertains St. Francis (PA). St. Francis lost at St. Bona in its opener, 92-82, though they pushed the Bonnies in second half when they cut their lead to three with 5 minutes left.

In only game involving URI OOC opponents:

Vermont at Marist. 7PM.

For what's it's worth comparative scores in the early going are not favorable to URI's OOC schedule. The overall OOC schedule is fairly decent, but the seven game home portion is not attractive with four dogs (RPI of 280+) and the three others lack name cognition and are just meh!! The one less home game also hurts. Also, URI gets to play only ONE P5 school and that only via the HOF. We need to do better!

Agreed that so far it's not going to help our RPI, which is why we need to beat Cinci and get Duke on the schedule. If that happens though, I don't think it matters who is coming in, we'll have a packed house regardless of opponent.

Last night's results:

Duquesne pulled away in second half to beat St. Francis (PA), 89-75.

Vermont edged Marist, 76-72. UVM led from the outset building a comfortable lead of 10-12 points, but Marist caught them with six minutes remaining and the game was a one possession game the rest of the way. Vermont sealed the win when they put in two critical foul shoits with seconds left.

Thursday A-10 action :

Clemson versus Davidson in the Tire Pros Invitational in Orlando. 11 AM.

St. Bonaventure at Florida. 7 PM. On SECN.

Temple at UMass. 7 PM. In the early going the signs are UMass may have a better team than expected with their young players emerging. The outcome of this game will add more substance to that picture.

Arkansas - Pine Bluff at GW. 7 PM.

Eastern Illinois at Saint Louis. 8 PM.

In games involving URI OOC opponents:

PC at Ohio State. 7 PM. On BTN. A Gavitt Tip Off Game.

Valparaiso at #4 Oregon. 9 PM. On PAC12.

Other games:

UConn at Loyola Marymount. 10 PM. ESPN3. This game is a prep as the Huskies head to Hawaii to play in the Maui Invitational. I understand the situation, but it is sad that UConn can't see fit to play URI in a home and home series when the schools are less than 60 miles apart. Blockhead Calhoun is gone, so what explains the reluctance now??

Davidson struggling to get a decent shot off. Clemson's length and athleticism hurting them big time. I've only watched half a game, but based on this effort, this doesn't look like a team that would scare me.

They've had our number though.
Although, our D matches up well with them.
We shut them down 2 years ago. We just couldn't score...so if we can prove to score and our D is as good as it was two years ago, we shouldn't have too big a problem against them.

Got to give Cooley and PC credit. Very competitive even after losing 2 first round picks. With that being said, this certainly isn't a vintage Ohio St team. But still good game for a young Friar team on the road. Win or lose

A10 Conference teams not doing us any favors.

Bar none Cooley can coach. Bullock had almost 50% of their points but the other EC keeps them in every game. They had 3 turnovers with less than 2 minutes left, that is unfathomable.

In some Thursday night action:

UMass came from behind in the closing minutes to beat old A-10 rival Temple, 70-67. The Minutemen were led by freshman guard, DeJon Jarreau, who scored the last five points of game. With UMass down by two, Jarreau drained a trey with 34 seconds to left to give them the lead. Jarreau then made a lay-up after a missed Temple three point attempt. UMass won despite 18 turnovers. A sparse crowd of 3732 attended.

GW bested Arkansas - Pine Bluff, 61-41.

Saint Louis beat Eastern Illinois, 74-69, to bring their record to 2-1.

In games involving URI OOC opponents:

With at second half surge, #4 Oregon easily beat Valparaiso, 76-54, handing Valpo their first loss of season.

I agree BAR, but consider PC was only down 2 points with 4 minutes to go. Granted they were 6.5 point underdogs.
But if we were close with 4 minutes to go and lost then Dan Hurley would be accused as always of not being able to win the close ones.

In my opinion both guys can Coach. But our guy is truly leading us to the promised land in the what have you done for me lately category. The future for URI B-Ball looks great

I would always be rooting for Xavier in the tournament when they were in the A-10 so it's hard for me to see them like I see other big east teams, so I still root for them generally.
