I'm not expecting a well attended game Friday. The day after Thanksgiving and I believe they shut the dorms down for the weekend. They're advertising $10 tickets to sit in the student section area.

After three games into a 16 game home schedule, the average attendance is 5,234 which is BELOW the predictions all all 71 people in contest. Given the lackluster OOC home schedule, it is hard to imagine that this average will go higher before we begin conference play in January. Belmont, ODU, Holy Cross and William & Mary are the remaining OOC opponents and with two of these games, school will be out. Only the ODU game has promise of a good crowd. The A-10 games are critical in getting the attendance average to move up significantly.

We had 4021 for the Marist game, with 1100 students. I think we'll have a good amount of people showing up from out of town/people looking to get out of their house, but I'm sure we'll have less than half the student total. I'm guessing between 3500-4000 for this one.

To me, and my son home from college, this is a highly interesting matchup, and we're looking forward to it. Unfortunately the casual fan has no idea who Belmont is, so they don't show. If the A10 needs another team, I would not be surprised if Belmont is a strong candidate. It would be nice to see at least 5000 there tonight.

Agree with you UCH. Belmont is a very good program. This team is a solid opponent and could turn out to be a tough match up for us tonight.

Anyone that thinks being ranked doesn't matter is a complete and total idiot. This appeared to be by far the lowest student attendance for games they've been on campus and that's just one segment of fans that didn't show up.

Tsk, tsk, Rhowdy-Boy.....Losing to PC as a ranked-team just doubles-the-pleasure, doubles-the-fun for the jumpers-off who were never on in the first place.
The casual Rhode Islander won't go to URI games because the perception is that no matter what happens -- EVEN IF URI WON A FUCKIN' NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP -- URI IS NOT AS GOOD AS THE STATE'S PROFESSIONAL FRANCHISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ESPECIALLY WHEN IT LOSES TO PC -- FOR THE 7th CONSECUTIVE TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's Rhode Island, that's how it works.
They won't be there.
Neither will students who want to be part of nothing but a 100% guaranteed effortless positive experience, a two-hour multiple-orgasm, and free food.
Word's out that URI is not as good as advertised.
AND HAS LOST TO PC -- FOR THE 7th CONSECUTIVE TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That, Rhowdy-Boy, was the Final Stamp of Disapproval.

It's funny. Everyone is preaching that attendance will be up and the RC. will start filling up when we win. Everyone believes that winning is the #1 factor that affects attendance. Yet someone believes that losing to our long time rival will not affect attendance. ......unreal.

Every member of the Rhody faithful I know is 100% off the Ram train.

I'm talking hard core mostly alumni here. Everyone is focused on holidays, Pats and now the sawx are front and center again. Most folks struggle to stream video and would turn it off within 5 minutes after viewing the below amateur production.

A strong 6-0 run will bring the hardcore back....I dunno about students but I'll nose around a bit to detect a pulse when they come back.....

You all know how I feel about PC.

Right now we are the once again the cow college down near the beaches.

Fix it with a strong run.

Nothing you can do about it. No sense worrying about attendance. PC had in the 4000's before our game.
Virtually All games streamed now, sports bars with dozens of screens can show any game, iPads, laptops, games can be seen all over the world.
Attendance is way down in the NFL this year, so many sports on so many channels on so many devices. You'll get the loyal fans and anything else is a bonus.

I don't think the students are streaming the games. If we're not winning, they just don't give a shit. I don't blame them. I mean, I'm a basketball nut, so I went to every game when I was in school, despite an 0-14 start my freshman year of '74-'75. But most students aren't hard core like I am. They'll just find something else to do.

Would be interesting to consider what the attendance last night would have been if URI was 7-1 and ranked 19th.

Ryan Center was 56% full last night with 4,250 in attendance.

Probably a swing of 2,000 fans over the results of two games. Clearly URI basketball has a lot of work to do to earn the trust of the fanbase and alumni back.

Have to disagree...I think being ranked had a major impact on the first few games. Losing that ranking was at least partially b/c of the loss to PC. Losing the ranking, regardless was going to impact attendance. Beating PC 'might' (or might not ) have kept the ranking. Even if it didn't keep them ranked, the buzz and attendance would have been way better if they had won in Providence.

I disagree...it's not a "a little more fun"...because it's a whole lot more fun. Overall attendance isn't going to impact my attendance, but it is a heckuva lot more fun when it's packed out. Seems crazy to think that the loss to PC (like Bressler said - double-whammy) didn't have a huge impact on last night's attendance.

The loss of the ranking and back to back setbacks on the road have dampened the enthusiasm for the casual fans (which includes most of the students). I would think the numbers will not be great until the name teams of the A-10 visit the Ryan Center, especially during break with no students on campus. I would guess that OOC attendance will be up just a bit over ly (4,551). Keep in mind that last year's average was greatly helped out by the PC sellout and there was no equivalent to replace the Friars for the 2016 OOC home slate.
