I'm not around there, we are driving home from Hilton Head, SC.
Ahh....there's the Red State America...I go to SC every month...when I was there in January...walked by "Trump HQ" in Greenville and thought it would be 'interesting' to get some political signage...for fun...just as some sort of weird 'memorabilia' kind of thing...the rest is unexpected history.

Great to see EC out there...you had to think he really wanted to get out there and 'establish'...and kinda half-expected it to be a bit awkward..but...to see him just fit in and 'star' so naturally at the same time... was awesome...

View for 306 (thanks again '67)

About what was expected for the first game of the season, slow start, team was anxious and hyper and forced the offense early. Settled in towards the end of the half and started pulling away. Much better second half on both ends.

EC: looked liked he picked up right where he left off before the injury. He looked smoothed and didn't force anything, his points came in the flow of the offense
Terrell: Had a solid good game, again scored in the flow of the offense, too aggressive on defense lead to some fouls (this was a common thing by a few players. (Something i expect to be looked at by the staff)
Hassan: Monster game, picked up where he was last year, 7 blocks and led the way on defense
Iverson: up and down game, foul trouble early but settled in, looked to be forcing it in the first half
Garrett: quiet game overall, had a couple nice jumpers early in the 2nd half but other than quiet was heard from much

Robinson: loved his defense, reminds me of TJ and showed some signs of offense
Thompson: good defensive game, missed his shot but I'm not too worried about the shots not falling
Langevine: looked like a freshman in the first half, defense will be his key, on offense looked almost completely lost
Akele: good game, solid additions off the bench, great replacement for KI off the bench
Dowtin: solid first game as a freshman, looks like he will contribute through the year (another good defended)
Berry: forced a couple shots but he will contribute at times this year
Layssard: Big boy, similar to Berry

Other tidbits:
need to work on aggressiveness on defense, some silly foul reaching over guys and through guys
ref could have let some of the stuff go in the second half called a lot of little things that wasn't necessary
great crowd, students and others
fun game, lets see improvements in the next game vs Marist

Box Score is up at GoRhody with all the splits:
http://www.gorhody.com/sports/m-baskbl/ ... 1_lxq6.xml

Coach Hurley wasn't kidding when he said that it was elite level defense, even against a team like Dartmouth, for the second half. For the game, URI had a D-PPP of 0.753 (crazy low).

Elbert was 9 for 12 from the field. WELCOME BACK! (he did have 2 turnovers to 3 assists, but I'm sure he'll get things tight on the TO side)

Fun to watch. Good crowd. Good defensive intensity after slow start.. Great to see e c and hass at full strength. Love the depth. Hopefully dowtin is OK. Rolled an ankle at end. Limping noticeably and did not look happy.

So many players with solid talent up and down the bench. Should be a fun year.

I was especially pleased to hear the crowd go wild when EC's name was called. For a first game back, obviously he looked excellent. Stan is as good as I hoped. Veteran player with that TJ Buchnann-type energy off the bench.

Can't wait for the Cincy game. A true test for them. Happy that attendance broke over 6k.

My thoughts:

EC looked great, I had forgotten how easy he can make it look at times and he was ultra efficient as well. So glad he's back
CT looked great on defense (where did that come from?), and when he gets his shot going, then watch out - I was a bit surprised that he was the first off the bench, but his play tonight was very solid

Good crowd tonight, looked more full than I expected - always love when the RC gets closer to capacity
Loved that the postgame press conference was on the radio show, great to listen to on the way home - really glad they're adding that in this year.

I remember when some of our fans questioned why we took Stan robinson bc we had so many guards. If you don't think he's gonna contribute significantly this year you are crazy. He must have deflected 10 balls and is a finisher. Going to be a fun team.

Our only potential weakness will be interior defense/rebounding if Hass is in foul trouble. Besides that we look to have a ton of weapons.

.....the depth of bench will be the major factor in the success this season; once players get comfortable in those roles, hit a few shots, play the strong team defense; yes watch out. Akele and a Thompson will be major contributors in the offense, off the bench. Attendance was more than I expected. For me EC showed no hesitation, made his moves to the left in the lane, hit the three.....liked Robinson's game, see his PT increasing, all in all great first game.....just win the next one....like we're we are....

Best defensive game I've ever seen at the Ryan, smothering guard defense and plenty of blocks. Offense looks good too and EC is back, crowd was good with Plenty of students. Deep, skilled, and athletic. We look ranked out there, on to Marist.

Our defense was really, really good tonight, honestly it felt like we could have won by 40 if we wanted. Not to sound smug, but how frustrating for a team like Dartmouth, even when down by only six at 8:00 in the first half or whatever, it was clear they just could never keep up with a team as deep and athletic as ours. This season should be some fun for us faithful.

Was barely able to see much of this while I was working.
But from the little I saw, our defense was very disruptive and it was obviously a walk in the park for us.
Hopefully I can find a replay somewhere.

I'm watching Harvard play Stanford right now and they are not a bad team.
Nice that we beat them so badly.

Really liked what I saw out of Nikola last night. He was very active on defense and took open shots. He did not try to force anything and he played the ball screen very well. He is going to be the key guy off the bench this year as we have much more depth at guard than forward. He is going to see a lot of minutes anytime Hass or Kuran get in trouble.

A fun evening of basketball with great defensive intensity. It appears as if the team is in great physical condition to play at this level. My only concern would be on the offensive glass against a bigger team. Martin and KI might need some help. Sorry about being picky, there was some major league athleticism and team work on the floor last night. You can't help but be optimistic about this very deep team.

Exciting night. I love that from far away its difficult to discern between CT and EC. EC's game is obviously above and beyond but the body is a good body to have.

Very impressed with Rhody basketball. How about the foul called on Langevine when he blocked the ball with two hands? unbelievable athletic plays were made out there by a couple different guys.

Happy Terrell forced his way to the free throw line instead of taking the initial open deep shot. Lots of maturity there and all over the floor for the rams.

That is a different type of defense than we displayed 2 Years ago when we were top 10 nationally. It's next level
If we can create live ball turnovers we will run teams off the court.

Keeping our bigs out of foul trouble is key

True. Throw in the fact that these guys finish in transition on another level than that team too. Even EC looks more athletic to me than those early years.

Yeah game presentation was highest ever. Ryan Center is the best place to watch basketball in the state.

I was at the Dunk last week for a bruins game and the arena was so far behind the Ryan center in signage and digital displays.

The only big negative of last night was the ft shooting. 56.5% from the line (13-23) will not cut it against good teams where the score is close. One game is a small sampling and it had no effect on the outcome in this contest. Hopefully it is not a trend we see in future games,

I wouldn't call it a big negative unless I thought it was going to be the norm. I don't expect it to be. I expect us to finish top 5 in conference ft shooting just like last year.

A nice surprise was largest home opening night attendance ever for a URI game.
