Rothstein lists Charleston as a mid-major to watch. Should be a good opponent.

FYI ... just confirmed my mini plan tickets for the season. In the confirmation email, lists the Providence game as 5pm on Dec 2.

This game was just announce 3 hours ago. I don't see why it should be considered too late, especially when we are at only 11 OOC Games - and 13 OOC Games could be permitted fir a total of 31 games.

That is unfortunate. I'd still rather play a bottom of the barrel D1 team than have a hole if we can't get a half decent opponent but I doubt it isn't happening because of a lack of trying.

I believe that site became restricted to just those in the college basketball business. I think some schools were embarrassed that the public could see their pleas and terms for games.

FWIW, though listed as #32, they're dropped into the projected brackets as a 7 seed, Agree on the lack of respect for the best team in the A10, but do the work between the lines and it will all fall into place.

According to Blue Ribbon, UNC Asheville, Nevada, Iona, FGCU, College of Charleston all picked to win their respective leagues. Seton Hall ins # 15, Alabama is #24 and of course Friars who I think will end up at a top 25 team. Throw in VA or Vandy , 2 NCAA teams from last year and schedule is extremely tough, outstanding OOC schedule. They will certainly be battle tested going into the conference.

I think right outside the top 25 is where we should be...

People will need to see that we have a frontcourt that can play with the big boys before than can put us in. Luckily, our schedule has plenty of tests to prove that we are up for the challenge.

I can't wait for Berry to be one of the most improved players in the country. Teams have no idea what's coming!!

I'm hoping to go down Saturday/Sunday. I have a few URI alum friends who live in DC now. Driving down is a possibility, although it's about 8 hours without traffic. Other than that I was thinking of flying down, you can do round trip on Southwest to DCA for about $230 from PVD. Not bad at all.

It is only a 3 hour drive for me. I was already looking at places to stay a few miles outside the city the same as i did in Pittsburgh.
I think I will wait on buying tickets until the season is nearly over and we can see when they might play for sure. I hate to plan too
far ahead.

This is good news for the A10 (and us). Stadium is the re-branded "American Sports Network" we've had for the past couple of years. These games will either be on NESN, NESN+ or one of the WJAR channels (NBC 10, MeTV, Comet, TBD).

WJAR and all of its subchannels are owned by Sinclair, which also owns Stadium/ASN, that's why MeTV often carried an odd URI football or basketball game from ASN. If a cable channel (NESN) doesn't pick up the rights to air these games, it is very likely a WJAR sub will broadcast it.

I wonder if there was a Providence Classic in the way of the local tournament people have asked for.

You get your PC and URI. But then you invite other New England schools. If the event was held by the city using URI and PC as anchor tenants.

All this leading up to my epic finish. Pay URI and PC a fixed dollar amount like a waterfire or a bigger event.

Basically create an event that fills the restaurants and hotels for 4 days like the NCAA (seeing that everyone in RI loves that anyway) and make sure that $$$ finds its way to the schools. the city will profit by having a signature Fall event that is unique.

I know URI PC sell their seats out every year. But I bet something can be worked out.

Get it broadcasted, have the local hospitality throw cash in. The city throw cash in the way they do it for pvd fest or just in the interest of advertising. Can create a pot of $. And it can be made back by visitors.

Are you suggesting we move the PC-URI game to Providence every year?

Edit: Are you suggesting we move any home games to Providence?

I am discussing the Providence like he said. Just at least in the past I always thought about it as basically the same as it is now just having RI teams play each other in the same place and calling it a tournament.

In my post above I was suggesting trying to create an event that has new England teams from outside of RI that draw. Promoting it and finding an exclusive broadcast partner. Adding to it the things that people liked from the NCAA coming to town.

Basically, making it more of a spectacle and locking in sponsorships. A Fall event. That was anchored by the two teams.
