Potential Issues at George Washington

Report out today about verbal abuse from GW Coach Mike Lonergan towards players. Article mentions the high transfer rate being a result of this abuse towards players. Not only will be interesting to see if there is any fallout for Lonergan, but also if there is any fallout for the university, which reportedly "addressed these issues in the past."

Just to clarify, annoying how? Annoying that it comes out or annoying that it happens?

Goes on and on.

I think it's annoying that it happens...I don't know the guy, but it doesn't seem likely you'd get that kind of transfer activity and repeated complaints, over multiple years of the same kind of stuff, without there being some validity to it. No good outcomes though...if it's true, that sucks, if everyone is lying about it, that sucks...

I think a lot of times people want to have an immediate reaction about how "back in my day" and "today's players are so soft." But then, you read the allegations, like in this case, and there is so much more alleged than just how some guy yelled at them.

Those things about the AD are so strange. Would multiple people just make up those kinds of things? I don't know, but it seems unlikely that they would. There seems to be a theme in these cases with how poorly the coach treats others around him or her- not just players but office staff, other university personnel, etc.

For how successful the program's been on the court, that is a lot of player turnover. Only one guy left from a 5 player recruiting class two years ago? I hope the issue is resolved fairly, in whatever way that is.

Some new info in this article. GW is bringing in outside counsel to review the incidents and investigate what is going on. Apparently, GW had their associate AD travel with the team last season to presumably watch Lonergan and evaluate his interactions with the team in all settings. All in all, while everything is still speculation and nothing is proven, things don't look good for Lonergan.

Some of the players and former players have taken to twitter to say it was tough but they are better for it.

They're better for having their coach talk about the AD masturbating to practice tapes and about how a teammate should play for a transgender team? Who knows if the accusations are true, but that's some weird stuff to make up. Like I said before, these things are not usually just about a coach being tough and yelling a lot at his players. Regardless, it's a mess for GW.

GW might be asking Lonergan to hit the high road here soon.
It might serve GW better if they got rid of him. There is no good reason why GW missed the dance the last two years. They're choke artists under lonergan and maybe his abuse had something to do with that.

If I said those things about my boss I'd be gone. What's the AD waiting for?
