Charlotte Loses First

Unread post by Obadiah »

In the only game of interest in Friday night action, Charlotte got routed at Miami, 77-46 and fell from the unbeaten ranks. Miami led throughout the game, leading by 11 at the half, the Hurricanes came out in the first minutes of second stanza to build the lead quickly to 20 points and they coasted the rest of way.

Despite a gaudy 9-0 record prior to game, Charlotte was suspect and ignored in the rankings due to a weak OOC schedule. When conference play begins, Charlotte on January 12 will be URI's first home A-10 opponent. This is a game I believe URI has a shot to win and a win will do much to bolster URI's chances to make it to Barclay's in March. Last year the Rams had a bad start in the A-10 home opener versus Richmond which helped set the course for the rest of the season. We cannot afford a repeat of that experience.

Watched part of that game.
Charlotte was never really in it.
Larranaga has Miami playing well coached basketball.

In Saturday A-10 action, the A-10 is 7-0 so far this evening. The highlight of the day was Butler OT win over #1 Indiana. Also noteworthy besides the URI win over SMU was VCU's easy win, 73-54, over 'Bama. Even Fordham won over Princeton.

In other action, East Carolina gave UNC a run in the second half. Akeem Richmond turned in his best performance of the season as he scored 19 points on 5-10 trey shooting all in the second half.

In the Gotham Classic at MSG, Canisius is giving Syracuse a battle as the Orange lead only 35-32 at the half. Billy Baron is the Griffs leading scorer so far.

Gotta love Brad Stevens and Butler.

The A-10 is so deep these days, I really hope that rumored 20 team A10 becomes a reality. Would love to see URI and PC in the same conference as well as in one of the elite basketball conferences.

Charlotte and their 9-1 record is a total fraud.

It looks like the A-10 will end the day with a 9-2 record. The two losses are La Salle's 74-66 defeat by Bucknell, now 9-1, and the other, a bad loss as Duquesne gets routed by NEC Robert Morris, 91-69.

In action involving some URI OOC opponents:

Loyola (MD) moves its record to 9-3 with a 79-57 win over Mt. St. Mary's.

Troy edges Georgia State, 57-56.

Virginia Tech loses its second straight game, this time at home versus Georgia Southern, 78-73.

NC State over Norfolk State, 84-62.

Not that it really matters, but if Akeem had played that way the last time he faced UNC, we would have won that tournament.
