EC was a 75%ish FT shooter before injury so while not at Four's 90% I doubt he is going to severely hurt our average.
Given how much he is fouled Hassan really is the one who needs to significantly improve against his career average, with his stroke and fundamentals he should be closer to 70% from the line. That would help the team average a lot.

I do agree Koch has become veryyyy condescending whether on twitter or in person.

You need your PG to shoot in the 70s. Jarvis needs to be better this year.
And there's FT shooting percentage and there's FT shooting percentage in the last couple minutes of the game ... There have been times when that's been a problem.

We lost a good shooter and a not so good shooter to graduation in Four and Earl. As Far as the projected rotation, we have added two good shooters in EC and Dowtin and two not so good shooters in Robinson and Langevine. Hopefully the addition of Justin Su'a, who is working with the team on the mental aspects of the game, including free throw shooting, will bring everyone's percentage up a bit, including at the ends of games.

Do you have a link to a website that tracks free throw percentage at the end of games?

Per my memory of the last two seasons, the overall team ft percentage was not in itself the issue. It seemed to me that many of the misses unfortunately came in pressure situations where the game was on the line. Conversely, there were some games which URI won comfortably where they shot very good from the line. These all evened out in the ft percentage but hurt in the w-l record. I am pleased that a consultant has been brought in to remediate this and hopeful this issue will lessen.

If I recall, the FT issue at end of games was due more to exhaustion than pressure. Keeping bodies fresh will help.

When Akele got fouled with no time left on the clock against Iona when the score was tied, I think it's safe to assume close to half the people in the arena thought he would miss both and we'd be heading to overtime.

Situations like this simply cannot happen this year, regardless who is on the line.

All those Providence teams that won a whopping 1 game in the NCAAs in the last 15 years. How will we ever exceed that bar.
Beat PC, play to the 2nd weekend in March, and then gloat until the Kingston cows come home.

I responded to KMac article in Projo, which said that URI doesn't deserve to be in top 25 and his reasons why. I said that it's just like him to rain on Rhody's parade, given his long history of putting URI down while praising PC at every turn. He responded that he is just being fair and balanced, just like Fox News.

ESPN's Dana O'Neil lists something flawed about every top 25 team.

23. Rhode Island Rams
Expectations. With E.C. Matthews healthy, Indiana transfer Stanford Robinson healthy, and Kuran Iverson and Hassan Martin ready to go, all signs point to a big year for the Rams, with most everyone already inking URI in its first NCAA tournament since 1999. But pressure can make for a terrible opponent.

But wait, #18 for URI? But don't they have to prove themselves first? :o :o :o

18. Rhode Island
Rhode Island’s E.C. MatthewsPhoto: AP
For one of the best young coaches in college, Dan Hurley never has made an NCAA Tournament trip. This year should be the year that changes. After losing E.C. Matthews to a knee injury in last season’s opener, the star guard returns as a potential Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and could lead the Rams to their first Dance in 18 years.

Once the season starts and we get real in-season rankings, this thread will be retired. But until then, one more pre-season ranking has been released where Rhode Island ranks #44:
The A-10 race should be interesting with Dayton (25th), VCU (32nd), Davidson (39th) and Rhode Island (44th) in the top 50.

ESPN has Rhody picked to finish first in the A10.

http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basket ... ll-2016-17

Here's a fun conference race: Archie Miller's Dayton Flyers and the Shaka Smart/Will Wade VCU Rams have been the class of this league for years now, but Rhode Island -- thanks to the return of injured senior guard E.C. Matthews, and an expected return to 2013-14's elite defense -- is a trendy top-25 pick.

1. Rhode Island Rams
2. VCU Rams
3. Dayton Flyers
4. Davidson Wildcats
5. La Salle Explorers
6. George Washington Colonials
7. Richmond Spiders
8. St. Bonaventure Bonnies
9. Saint Joseph's Hawks
10. Fordham Rams
11. Massachusetts Minutemen
12. George Mason Patriots
13. Duquesne Dukes
14. Saint Louis Billikens

Kevin Mac voted Connecticut at #21 with URI not ranked.
UCONN didn't last long.
URI already the #1 team I New England and hands down URI has the best arena in New England to watch a college basketball game.
