The Early Line URI vs Dayton

Unread post by luke »

Vegas opening line is Dayton - 1. Onnly one site is reporting so far. This one
is a 50-50 game and this line kind of indicates that. a smart gambler wouldn't
touch this one. The Rams can win this game if they shoot well and box out.

I like Dayton -1. Until URI actually beats a legitimate opponent this year, I have a tough time getting behind them.

The last 2 games some were thinking URI might not even win and felt the spread was much too high. They lost going against URI.
URI blew out the spread last two games because they are playing better than was expected. No reason that shouldn't continue Friday night.

Hope you are right Ramster. However, URI played well against two bad teams.
They have yet to play a good forty minutes against a good team. No reason it
couldn't happen tomorrow at home though. woould like their chances better if
Iverson was available.

Luke,
In my opinion the 46% chance of winning feels high to me. That means about a 1 in two chance. My gut tells me I'll be ecstatic if we win but feels more like a 1 in 4 chance of winning.
My fear is the Four will not be able to be as effective because of the aggressive defense Dayton plays against all 5 positions. Relentless. StJoe put Bembry on Four at times and took right out of the game.
When Four is hot he can shoot off balance, almost with his eyes closed as at Brown but tough, aggressive, long defensive players take him out of his game from what I've seen
A win would be amazing, then on to VCU!!!

We blew out the spread the last two games playing the 2 worst teams in the league, Dayton to me is the best team in our conference so there is for sure reason to think this would not continue. I hope you are right though Ramster.

I like your comment about a smart gambler Romulous. ain't it the truth?
Ramster, Dayton just struggled at home against Duquesne and had to
come back from 12 points down. They were very fortunate to win. They
allowede a ton of open threes and played poor defense until the final three
minutes. If dayton has a similar game against URI they will lose. However
I think they will play better because they know they have to to win. Dayton
can be unbeatable when they are on, but that is mostly at home.
Remember, they lost at Lasalle and generally haven't been good in road games.

also the history between us and them is a factor here. Us and Dayton (for about 10 years now) has been a 'throw out the record' game. Seems we always match up with them and have epic knock down drag out wars (Hellenga from the corner, Marquise's drive, Marquise's 3)

One could argue they played a good forty minutes against PC

I hope your are right and they play poor defense tomorrow night. They also have St Joe next game so maybe looking past us? I'll try to be more confident :D :D

Have to say BillyBoy was right about Jarvis shooting the three. He had seen him play prior to coming to URI. He has a nice release, good arc on his shot and squares up well to the basket. What a great weapon to have a solid point guard who is now regularly hitting the 3-ball. Really opens up the court.
