I don't like to pick out players performances but I'm not seeing Akele being a good player in the A10. Can't shoot and not that athletic. Looks completely uncomfortable out there. He is a freshman but he has got a good amount of minutes this year and we are deep into the season.

Who said Akele was going to be good... Reminds me an awful lot of Reischel.. Can't shoot FT's, turns the ball over, extremely weak under the hoop, plays scared.... Certainly was not a game I expected them to win, nor did they deserve to win, but again they fumble away a play that should be relatively routine.. When a team misses a FT rebound should be yours not for this team though.. Amazes me that there is no true backup point guard on this team.. Whose fault is that??

Of course he's an A10 player. He's an ACC player. Every good team has a guy like him. What he's not is a 30 minute guy who has to handle the ball.

Just another nightmare. UMass is terrible. So are we.

7-11 conference record. Maybe 8-10. Another feather in our cap. Blame the refs. Blame the players.

Four is definitely a D1 player... just is better suited in lower conference. He is a good shooter but needs way too much time to get off his shot. He also can't create his own shot....too slow. If we play an athletic team that plays any type of tight d four is a ghost out there. I still would want him on our team for late game free-throws. Obviously EC being out is the real reason he plays so much. Great player in a north east type conference.

They also have clean looks with feet set all day long. They are asked to do a single thing. Make shots when the defense gets broken down by great guard play or off loose balls.

This isn't a popularity contest.

Some of this is out of frustration, but a lot of it is reality.

Some of you don't like to hear it, but that's your choice.

Some of us know what's going on, and some don't have a clue.

I'm just FED UP with the current situation, and also with some people's constant excuses.

And I don't think it's going to get much better down the road either.

I FULLY expected to lose this game. I was shocked when we were favored to win.

I hope UMass extends Kellogg after that big win. He has the support of the fans in Amherst as evidenced by the big crowd of 2423 that showed up. The crowd was so small at the Mullins that it looked like a UMass FBS football game.

As bad as it is for Rhody (missing three starters from game 1), it could be worse. UMass has their full complement of players and look at the cluster*uck they are.

Good rebounding effort tonight - on the bright side. Usually UMASS beats us on the boards but not tonight
Watson with 14 - great contribution from him tonight
Thompson with 8 including a game high 5 offensive - like his toughness inside for a freshman
Martin and Berry with 7 each and amazingly Berry's came in only 11 minutes!

3-19 on threes with McGlynn and Thompson making up most of the misses. UMASS wasn't much better
Only 4 assists against St Joe's - 10 assists tonight

Tough loss, very winnable game
Interested to hear 208's take on the night having sat behind the bench.
Good effort, cold shooting

The problems this season can be blamed on every single ref, E.C's knee, Bernadette McGlade, a few more refs, every biased announcer, Phil MartellI, Bill Koch and Dave Gavitt.

One of the announcers said EC Martin near the end of the game. They were making mistakes all night, so I imagine Chris was just commenting on that. One guy kept saying Thompson would one of the only guys to play off the bench for us. Obviously he started. And the guy said it like 3 minutes into the game to. Pretty funny.

Well, I thought the PC-Creighton game was ugly, and it was.
However, this game was like that with a much lower talent level.
Kudos for Terrell and Watson for showing up.

Rod - You are on to something with the players on this team. I do not think they are quitters as they for the most part play hard right up until the buzzer. They just however do not have the drive and will to win as Hellenga had. It's a missing ingredient. Along with a true leader.

I agree as I fear that we are looking at a life and death struggle to finish above .500 at this point. It is still possible but starting to look like it may not happen. I worry that we may not record a single A-10 road win. We will also likely lose at least 1-2 more at home. Who would have ever thought when we started the first game against American in November that this is where we would be? This season has been such a disaster. I will be very glad when it is over.

First of all, I fixed your disastrous formatting.

Second of all, I really was out eating and drinking with coworkers and did not see any of the game (you'd think maybe URI/UMass would get on a TV in a Boston bar, but no). I wasn't trying to be cute.

Third of all, I'm so sick of this revisionist history fantasy bullshit. Three years ago, two years ago, last year, this year...what? We got better and better and better, then we lose our best player (and tonight played without two other starters), and all of a sudden it is institutional-level incompetence? Occam's razor, friend. I'm sorry you don't like the WAY we lost this year (or apparently last year, or the year before that), but taking a step back, none of these losses on paper are unexplainable or even unexpected considering the roster situation.

If this was truly Groundhog's Day for URI basketball, we'd have won seven more games this year than we did last year and be cruising toward a top-half-of-the-bracket seed, which ironically (I can be ironic, too!) is exactly where I think we would be if we had the roster we expected to have this year.
