Obie, love the stats, but man 11-1 the rest of the way?

Only loss to Dayton on the road?

I know, you're just telling us what it would take.

Yep, you are right I'm just saying what it will take to get the job done as of Jan 23 and our 3-3record. It's the reader's choice to assess the probability of that happening or something similar. My own feeling is we need to win it all in Brooklyn. Actually, that's a better possibility than URI going 11-1 the rest of the way to get to 14-4.

If we could actually start to win some close games, especially later this season against the better teams, then I would have some hope of us doing some damage in NY.

I don't see it. As of right now, no chance.

Like the summary, thanks. While 11-1 is not likely to happen (no matter who they were playing)...it does look like they have the talent to do so. But, talent and results haven't exactly seen eye to eye so far. Winning it all in Brooklyn is probably more probable than going 11-1...but think that if they can win 20 and get to the final...there's still a possibility. (Will put on my helmet now ;) )

11-8, even without EC, is atrocious. For the talent we supposedly have.

I hope we don't further embarrass ourselves by accepting a bid to the CBI after the conference tourney......

Among Home and Home partners:
* Sweep home and home with UMass, La Salle, and Fordham gives us 6-0.
* Split home and home with Saint Joseph's and Dayton makes 8-2

Among Single Game partners:
* Win home games versus Saint Louis, Richmond, GMU, Duquesne makes record 12-2
* Road game losses to St. Bonaventure and GW - record at 12-4
* Win road games at VCU and Davidson- final record 14-4.

14-4 with a decent tourney performance gets URI a bid. Losses to either VCU and Davidson or both means no at large bid. Then URI has to grab the automatic bid by winning the A-10 tournament.

When Wagner was 25-5 and got snubbed from the NIT, Dan didn't accept an invitation to the CBI. I highly doubt he accepts one this year.

I hope Thorr learned from the last trip to the CBI it was not worth the effort. If you can't make the NCAA or NIT, you might as well shut it down. No one really cares about the CBI. The NIT today doesn't even generate much enthusiasm. Look at URI's recent home attendance numbers for the NIT and CBI. It is all about the NCAA these days. Continued trips to lesser tournaments with no NCAA trips in between do not excite fans.

URI paid CBI $35,000 to get CFL his
precious 20 wins.
The Coach Baron Invitational netted a whopping
1,200 fans!
Does anyone think this year would be any different?

According to RPI Wizzard, one loss the rest of the way plus 2 wins in Brooklyn and a loss in the finals gets us to about #36, 2 losses gets us to ~ #43

Even with only one loss the rest of the way, if we lose in the second round in Brookyln we are looking at a 45+ RPI

At this point I would say we need both of the following to happen for a chance at an at large bid:
- A maximum 2 more regular season losses (10-2 or better)
- A minimum 2 wins in Brooklyn

Considering we are 11-8 with a past SOS that is easier than our upcoming SOS, I would say an at large is highly unlikely. If we are honest with ourselves, lets just say we have to win in Brooklyn. We can revisit this conversation if we win 6 of our next 7.

They aren't going anywhere. Just home.

We win our last 2 win one in Brooklyn I think we are safely in the NIT field. Obviously we would have to play a tough road game but that would be good for our young guys.

NIT for us is still a longshot.

We know what happens when we start speculating about what it will take, etc. etc.

But of course, I'll bite.

Have to win our last 2, and 2 in NY. Do that, and we go. That's 20 wins.

I doubt it, but at least there's a chance.

Need CT back. That would help.

ESPN has us at RPI of 103, good for 7th in the A10 and nationally were ahead of some pretty good teams such as Marquette, Georgetown, and Arkansas, for comparison.

At the start of the season the NIT was something none of us wanted to hear. It is a different story now for two big reasons.
Experience- with three freshman and two Soph. playing big minutes. it would make a difference next year. Even one of the lower tournaments may be considered .
Recruiting- To be able to say we made the NIT with our two All conference players out and our point guard with a mask playing with a broken jaw may help in future recruiting.

I'm going to guess...by the conversation and number of posts...quite a few people GAS?
Seems it would benefit the players and coaches and believe it or not, there are a fair number of fans that would still like to see another couple/few games. That it would chafe the "long time sufferers" is just a side bonus.

For now, though...no reason to even think about the NIT...unless they lose in Brooklyn.

I GAS.

I assume the players give several shits. And they should, after all they've been through this year and given where we were a few weeks ago, making the NIT would be a good accomplishment for the rest of the season.

Nobody is forgetting the overall goal. Making the NCAA tournament. But barring a Brooklyn run, that ship has sailed. That doesn't mean that everything else is pointless.

Not surprised at all at your sentiments, you are the biggest fanboy on this board after all. If second tier tournaments get you excited than more power to you.

If Rhody gets an invite and wants to play in the NIT, go for it. Another NIT bid doesn't move the dial for me at all.

I don't even think Rhody will get an invite.

I'm going to wait until after Saturday's game to make odds on us making the NIT.

Lose, and we're out.

Win, and 2 wins in NY gets us in imo. That 2nd win would put our RPI in the 80 range I think.

Could come down to how much gas is left in the tank in the 2nd half of Friday's game, if we're in that situation of course.

We won't get a home game in any event, like RR said. Also a factor is how many at larges are available after the inevitable upsets in the conference tourneys.

Nice game by Iverson.. Extremely active on both ends of the court.. Hope with more depth next year they can play more transition basketball.. Think Iverson will be even better in an up tempo game...UMass was pitiful.. That being said can't say I love the possibility of playing them next week.. Unless of course they play the selfish, undisciplined style they played tonight.. Then I say bring them on!!

I'm thinking, win Saturday and 1 in Bklyn, gets a NIT bid (then again, I'm the crazy ignorant one  ). Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't. And I know that NIT wasn't the goal...but it is what it is...I want to keep seeing these guys play. But...not going to think about it unless they lose in Bklyn... ;)

Nice try, 208, but 1 win in NY won't get it done....simple RPI math.

Have to win that 2nd game to get the number down from around 95-100, to about 80.

Just hope Jared and Jarvis [especially him] can hold it together for a few more games.

The "supporting" cast is doing a great job helping out.

Fordham will not be any cakewalk. They are playing better, and at home they've been tough.

Our guys just have to pretend they [Fordham] are Dayton. That will do the trick. :D

I guess we'll see...maybe (?) one in NY won't get it done, I really don't know - is that definitely the case? Am looking forward to seeing what it's like at Fordham... Within the next year or two, would like to get to all the A10 venues. And, for shorter term, looking forward to Brooklyn. I just know these guys have been enjoyable to watch and the shorter the time between the end of their season and the start of the Sox season (and, the Hanley Ramirez experiment, ugh...) the better ;) .
