I don't know if it is good to have Richmond right after they come off a home loss to St Joe's.

Maybe not but I don't think it's good for Richmond that we just played our best game of the season and since the 2nd half of Brown our young guys look like they are having less freshman mistakes and showing why were so excited about them coming in this season.

Coming back after being down big and winning like they did against Brown can sometimes be a springboard. They have the monkey off their back and finally won a close game. I would however feel a little better if we then faced a decent team and won. Beating St. Louis (or Brown for that matter) isn't much of a measuring stick in my view given that they are really bad. This next game will tell us a lot.

Terry Allen will be a lot to handle without Hass.
I'm feeling 50-50 about this because we still haven't beaten a good team. We have however whooped their spider butts the last couple years. Has been a good matchup for us.

The outcomes in the next three games will tell us much about how far this Ram team goes in the A-10.

Our physical play tends to give their finesse style some issues - but a lot of that is on the rebounding front, and without Hass others will have to step up.
UR isnt very big though, so while not ideal we wont get manhandled inside without him. Allen can be an issue, but he also can go away for long stretches. Cline is all finesse and Iverson/Akele should be able to stay with him.

I am in no way guaranteeing a win tomorrow night and I do believe Richmond is formidable, but I'm curious about the one guy on their board that said he watched the game Saturday and thought we looked beatable. I don't know if we can play that well without Hassan again, but if we do I like our chances. I'd love to know what more we could have done to not look beatable?

That win was impressive, especially without Hassan. I don't care who it was against. But yeah, Saint Louis was the best possible conference match-up for that first game.

I also can't help but think about how great EC was in that game against Richmond last year.

I'd prefer Hass didn't play unless he is near 100%. If Richmond beats us, I prefer it is with outside shooting rather than backdoor lay-ups. We can't afford to overplay them outside.

Again, we need to shoot the open trey as soon as it becomes available. As 4M said, we have confidence now, so let's build on it. Our bigs can't shoot FTs so don't force the ball down inside to them. Good shooting can become infectious. Move and move the ball - no more JG dribbling mindlessly late in the shot clock. CT, 4M and NA need to shoot the open shot. JT and KI and JG are intermediate shooters. EW and AB shoot inside only. Get a good shot off practically on every possession and Richmond will need their A game to beat us.

When AB gets the ball low, he needs to go up immediately without dribbling.

Richmond Times-Dispatch preview of tonight's game.

Must win for URI being favored at home by 4 points against a team that they could end up battling with for an NCAA bid. Must win these head to head games.

This game should be close right to the end.

We win the close ones against bad teams.

We have to start winning the close ones against good teams. On a consistent basis.

Both at home and on the road.

Is this the time? Or is it wait until next year, again?

Classes at URI don't begin until January 26th (Monday the 25th is an Advising day). Having the holidays fall when they did, plus an expanded January academic term (like summer sessions) pushed the January start date back further than usual this year.

I think Martin coming back would be huge. Vegas opened this 3.5 and it has crept up to URI -4.5, while the total has fallen from 143 to 142. Nothing huge, but I think both are signs that bettors think Martin plays?

If he doesn't I certainly like that Richmond +4.5...

Rhode Island now has the 69th best adjusted offensive rating and 66th best adjusted defensive rating according to KenPom. Offense is coming around even without EC Matthews and the style they wanted to employ this season.

Compare to Adjusted Offense in Hurley's prior years:
2015 196th
2014 191st
2013 211th

For fun, while at Wagner, he had:
2012 140th
2011 223rd

Sorry for consecutive posts, but Richmond, normally known for its stout defense, is really horrible defensively this year, rating just 196th in adjDef. To counter that, they enjoy a very strong adjOffense rating of 23rd.

Were Richmond and GW "bad" teams last year? - we went 3-0 in close games against them. You are the king of broad generalizations with no qualifiers.

I think he has it right. I read it as him saying short term it is frustrating not to have the full potential of the best players but long term it benefits the team by having the freshman forced into more experience earlier in their careers.

This game will probably end up in the 70's.

With their offense, and our defense not being as good lately [without Hassan of course].

Our offense has to continue as they did against St. Louis. It's all about ball movement and making shots.....

Including FT's. That's been a little better lately, keep it up.....

BAR, we did win those games I know. What about all the others? Let's see, Davidson, Dayton, etc. etc.

You know our track record. There are a LOT more close losses against good teams, than wins over the last few years or more....

We have to start NOW winning those games, or it's the same old same old.....this season anyway...

I understand. I was making a joke because there is not much more "long-term" way of thinking than saying something is going to trim a couple years off the end of your life. I guess we need a sarcasm font.

this game is a big one from a standings perspective as URI and Richmond have a good chance of finishing near each other at the end of the year and the winner of this game will own the tie breaker

This is a big game for sure on a few fronts. Richmond being sort of in the same echelon of A10 team as us right now. The ability to separate.

For our program that has kind of been stalled for 2 months now. Getting a good win after the two wins they just got.

2-0 with a more healthy Hassan Martin for Rhody to get out on the road. Big game.

The BEST possible thing that can happen is we come out hitting threes before the first media timeout like last game. Besides the obvious fact of spreading the floor it will give the team so much confidence. Big game on ESPNU also may give them all a little extra hype. I'll be there, hopefully 4-5 thousand more people at least will be too.
