GAME 11: Iona (Sat, Dec. 19, 7 P.M.)

And happy holidays. Disappointed about the match-up tomorrow as you are without Matthews and my Gaels are without 3 starters from last year, including AJ English. This could've been a fun game but I'm afraid I don't see us having much chance in this one. We won't have our starting back court and a key reserve. One of our other rotation guys was just cleared to play Wednesday for the first time this season after being injured and is not in game shape. As I understand it Matthews is out for the season. Hate to see that for any player, much less for a player his caliber. This has been a very frustrating start for Iona fans, as we were touted to be very good this year. Last year we lacked depth and played essentially seven guys all season. By the time of our NIT game with you we were worn out and one of our best players, Isaiah Williams, was two weeks removed from being cleared to play after a broken foot. We thought we had the depth issues addressed this season by adding Aaron Rountree, a 5th year player from Wake, Taylor Bessick and Deshonee Much, two transfers, and JuCo, Jordan Washington. But we've been plagued by injuries since the start of the season, however, and hadn't played very well on top of it trying to assimilate all of the new guys.

Not trying to make any excuses here. I believe you had the better team last March and would've beaten us even if we were healthy and energenic. Same with this year. Wanted to give you some flavor heading into the game though.

I know you guys were looking forward to a great season and its a complete shame that Matthews was injured. Hopefully you will still go on to have a great year with some NCAA tournament wins, and that Matthew's pro prospects wont be diminished any.

Should have less trouble getting to the beer in the Rhody Pub..... And watch the giant TVs......looking for a solid game, all phases, rested after exam week, coming out ready to play, no funk.....Go Rhody....be loud, give support to team coming out of tunnel.....no ugly sweater on EZ Buckets?...

Sorry, but posted this under the wrong thread earlier.

It will be interesting to see if Hurley shuffles the line-up a bit in this one. Can Jarvis, Terrell and Martin ramp it up after their Nebraska showing?

Also, will McGlynn find his range again to reverse the last three games or is his transition from Vermont to Towson to URI, a bridge too far?? Just asking.

Snap out of it, TP...this is the start of the big win streak...prime seats still available on the bandwagon. Hopefully, they can get the efficiencies worked out in the pubicle in time to reasonably accommodate.

Absolutely pathetic.

No other way to describe it.

This team is terrible. And cursed.

Right now I don't care about next year. Same cast of characters pretty much.

More new guys who probably can't shoot free throws.

Great 2nd half defense too. Even that sucks........

Iona is playing basically their 2nd team..unbelievable.

Awesome game from Hassan and even though it makes me a sucker I am happy we showed some guts in overtime. But this is the fourth game that we couldn't hold a second half lead against an inferior opponent. Luckily we pulled it out, but it is beyond frustrating to see a team that is this talented and filled with quality kids to continue to throw up on themselves and give games away. I'm not going to kid myself into thinking they will suddenly snap out of that anymore, either. This is just what it's going to be. I don't get it and it makes me physically ill, but it is what it is.

I don't think this is a turning point for us. If anything it would have been Iona that gutted out a win if they pulled it off. URI must march on. ODU will be a challenge.

Rhody made 8 of 10 FTs down the stretch in regulation and 7 of 8 FTs in OT.
The two FTs at the end of regulation were missed by a Freshmen. You can't just look at one play.
The game went into OT because of poor FG shooting for the game and poor D down the stretch.

We were just out there sleep walking. Missed so many easy shots. I'll take the win. Gotta play harder than that. Those guys are obviously still going through some mental issues with this disappointing season. Not a lot of passion out there right now after the Nebraska loss. Ending ODU's 29 game home win streak could be good for us. Quietly Hass had his best scoring game, nice free throw shooting too!
Still that was not a very encouraging performance at all....

Yes we did, but we did blow a 12 point lead and a 5 point lead with 0:22 left against a trash team at home, after we just gave our last game away at the end and after we gave away second half leads against Valpo and PC. Most of the angry comments were as we were blowing the 5 point lead in 20 seconds. Except Rambone...he waited until we won to go on his rant.

Pathetic. As rambone says, that is the only word to describe what occurred on the court tonight.
watching that was very discouraging looking forward. a similar effort on tuesday will net them a double
digit loss. and ODU isn't even good this year.

We had 5 days to practice and improve after Nebraska.

And it looked like they were AWOL those 5 days.

Hassan was great, but against who?

Terrell is a huge disappointment.

Akele is a freshman, but make a free throw please?

Defense took the 2nd half off, continuing a disturbing trend.

We will get destroyed against teams like Dayton and GW playing like this.

TP, I wait until the damage is done. I hardly ever post while games are going on. Would rather digest our wondrous play until the bitter end. Well they won, but does it feel like a win?

Anybody? What an ugly box score. How did we win that game?

At least we don't have one thing to primarily complain about this time.

Well, the good news is...(with the exception of Akele) they made free throws down the stretch. The less good news is, 'they had to make free throws down the stretch to beat this team.' Oh well...the winning streak has begun...climb aboard the bandwagon everyone!

Our best player had a huge game against a shitty team. We had to go to OT to win it. We didn't make clutch FTs in regulation to win.

We just didn't play well tonight. Every team has games where they just don't hit shots, and play below their potential. I don't think this game is an accurate reflection of this team.
