You are right.
I expect a smallish crowd tomorrow night.
I've never seen a big crowd following one of these
big game losses.
It's like our fans can only get up for certain games and
can't be bothered for the rest.
This is a significant game, against an unbeaten team.
It should be well attended, but I'm betting it won't be.

Not a chance there is a big crowd. Heck I don't blame them. Certain people can only take so many letdowns that we have been given time and time again. Ill be driving over and hour again like every other game to support my RAMS. That was one hell of an effort the showed me the other night. Unfortunately if we continue to always drop these big games attendance is going to be a recurring issue down the road.

Go Rams!

I can only speak for myself, and maybe my situation is unique and maybe it isn't. I hope people will go to the Houston game, but I kind of feel like a hypocrite for saying so. I wish I could be there to do my part, but realistically I can't get there - not just tomorrow but really any weeknight game (there may be 1 or 2 exceptions each year). I work 2 hours from campus and I have an infant at home; it is enough of a battle to get to weekend games. Fans that can get there should go, but at the same time the team can't take it personally if the building isn't completely full. That will come eventually if we win consistently, but it isn't going to magically happen overnight.

I don't think Houston has played any powerhouses yet.

Hopefully our home court will be the difference, but if the crowd is small, that won't help as much.....

This is a big game for sure. All the rest of them are, now....if we want to go anywhere that is....

If we had won Saturday night, I think that would have really helped the student turnout for this one, but...

Generally speaking? Probably nothing. But everyone has their own circumstances. That was the only point I was trying to make. Nobody wants to be at the games more than I do, and I doubt many do more to get to games when I can do it. But I just can't do it every game, and I'm sure I'm not alone.

Houston was awful last year.

How much better are they this season?

Yeah, they are scoring like Iona, but how is their D?

We should be able to slow them down considerably. However they do have size, which if it's quality size will give us trouble as always.

As we saw against PC, if we uptempo things and score more, that hurts our D.

I know Bentil is good, but he's way better than last season. He was the difference, just like I predicted earlier.

They said on the post game show the other night that their top 3 scorers are 6'0", 6'0" and 6'2". Sounds like we match up well with them, size wise.

I watched them play on espn3 against Rio Grande Valley state or something, and they looked really quick. They can score really well and those guards are pretty good. I think they are similar to the caliber of team that TCU is, but they play much faster and don't posses the interior threat that TCU does. If we go out and sleep walk on defense they could probably get a good lead on us and we'd have to really fight for this one. Probably won't be easy regardless. But they haven't played anybody nearly as goo as we are and they haven't played a road game yet. Our D should do the trick and hopefully we aren't in too much of a lull after our heart breaker, because we certainly don't wanna lose this one.
Kelvin may be a cheater, but he's got some talent on that Houston team so this can maybe be a pretty nice win for us.
They play Ben Simmons and LSU after us.

JT and JG should match up well with them then.

Iverson, Watson, and Hassan should have a field day inside, as long as we can slow them down I would think.

If there's one thing good that came out of Saturday, it's that these kids finally saw that they can hang and play with good teams, because they are a good team...even without EC. Hopefully that was the coming out party Jarvis and Jared needed.

We also saw Christion Thompson show up. I'd expect a countdown where we see Four go back to an off-the-bench shooter, and CT gets the start...potentially as soon as conference play.

Also, Earl Watson...tell me why he isn't playing 20+ a game? Unless Thompson is in the game, the forwards need a rest, or we need a zone buster from Four, the lineup should be Jarvis, Jared, KI, Hass, and Earl.

Watson's time is always a function of matchups. He came in and had a field day against the Friars when Cools benched his top 3 players in the first half. Depending on who he is asked to defend, Watson can or cannot be productive on both ends.

KenPom ranks Houston the 200th best in adjusted Defense (1.03 PPP when defending) and 66th best in adjust O-PPP. Overall, Houston is 113th in the KenPom rankings.

Houston has feasted on truly the dregs of Division 1 hoop. 3 of their 5 wins have been against the bottom 3% of teams according to KenPom:
342 UT Rio Grande Valley
345 Prairie View A&M
350 Florida A&M

Their other two wins were vs average teams, both at home:
144 Louisiana Monroe
180 Murray State

KenPom predicts URI to win with a score of 76-68, or 80% chance of winning.

Rhody's D-PPP ranking dropped after the Providence game, down to 22nd nationally @ 0.938 points per possession. Offensive efficiency is nearing Top 100 @ 114th. In Dan's first three seasons in Kingston, Offensive efficiency ranked 211, 191, and 196, respectively, so this season URI is performing better offensively -- now in the top 3rd of Division One.

This is a big game after such a crushing loss. If our fans are dead like we were against Holy Cross I'm worried this game could be closer than we want. Saturday showed what we could be like with a home court advantage. These guys played their hearts out for us; I can't imagine what they felt like after that loss. Let's show them we will fight for them like they do for us. As always, I will be driving 2 hours to get to the Ryan Center and I will be going nuts in 205! I hope the place will be packed and loud.

Well...I still have less than 40 posts, so, take it with a grain of salt, but I'd guess (as a previous poster did) that they make Four an off-the-bench option....

This Houston game, if it's as wide open as I think it might be, is the kind of game Four could go off for 30. So, we'll see.

While Hurley hasn't shown an aversion to just playing the best guy regardless of year - he benched Minnis for Garrett last year -that would be a heck of a jump for Thompson. Four is third on the team in MPG, and second in 3-point shooting after Thompson, with a much larger sample size (51 shots vs. 13). He didn't look great in the Providence or Maryland games, but you only have to go back to the Rider and TCU games to find examples of him being a key contributor.

We've gone from some posters saying two weeks ago that Thompson wasn't a D1 player at the A10 level to some others saying that he should be starting. While I think Thompson will eat into Four's minutes as the year goes on, I also think he cuts into Terrell's playing time, since he's at a probably unsustainable 36.0 MPG. I don't think he starts without either 1) another injury to the starting five or 2) a serious downgrade in skill from one of the starting five.

I agree, Four likely remains in the starting lineup for the remainder of the season. if Thompson continues to improve and shows he can consistently hit shots, then he will earn his minutes in place of either Four, Jarvis or Terrell. I could see Hurley riding the hot hand between Four and Thompson from game to game as necessary, but not with a change in the starting lineup.

I'm predicting Four gets 30 tomorrow night. He's probably been shooting since about 9:15 Saturday night.

Four seems to be really good against low-major teams, and seems to struggle against high-major teams. He has a really slow release and teams that are good at closing out (usually HM teams) tend to shut him down. I say start Four against low-major teams, and CT against HM teams to create a low-major/high-major platoon, sort of like a righty/lefty platoon in baseball. Plus he isnt as good on D as CT.

I was down on CT early on......I see him now as being brought along by the coaching staff into another option, with gaining confidence off the bench....Minutes will increase from here......he seems kinda steely like with little outward emotion......I like that.....or have I missed something?....you tell me..... Unless I missed something else, Coach doesn't change the starting line up like I change.....socks....

I don't know that you can start Thompson based on one game (or two games), but also keep in mind that the plan for Four originally was for him to come off the bench and give the second unit a way to score and probably play down the stretch when we were protecting a lead. If Thompson shows that he will be who he was against PC every night, it might make sense to move Four back to that role. That is a big "if," though. Freshmen are typically pretty inconsistent. I do agree with BlueMan that our best lineup might be JG, JT, KI, HM and Big Earl. I love that lineup, but then again I am an unapologetic Earl lover and it seems pretty obvious at this point that isn't something Coach Hurley and I have in common.

Thompson is a better rebounder, but McGlynn's steal rate this year is higher, by a tiny bit, which is mildly surprising because he didn't put up good steal rates at Towson. I also think that McGlynn is encouraged to look for his offense, since Terrell is usually handling the other team's best wing anyway. (i.e. When McGlynn is playing, he's probably on the worst offensive wing, but Thompson does give them some more flexibility in defensive assignment.)

Also, the "he can't play against high major teams!" is probably more of a super small sample size issue this year. Last year, he had 10 against Georgetown on 4-for-6 shooting. He had 15 against Alabama, 20 against Temple. The previous year, he had OK games against Kansas (didn't start yet) and Oregon State as a sophomore.

He was fine with making the switch to Garrett midseason last year, and didn't Powell play his way out of minutes the year before? I might be mistaken on that though. I think Hurley's willing to make a starting lineup switch, but it's typically not based on a couple hot games.
