I wasn't blasting you. Hal Kopp was the one who through the snide remark about attendance being worse than football. No harm, no foul

Im in Vegas right now and the spread is Rhody -1.5. I am so confused on how to bet this without EC.... If Garrett is definitely playing i think ill take rhody, but its a little scary seeing that Valpo beat Iona by like 30

Blue ram, attendance only counts if paid or actually show up?
Ramster is right. I go as many as three hours or get on plane to watch URI BB.
For arguments sake, let's say tickets cost a $1 today and see how many show up vs. FB.
Attendance has been a frequent topic on this board and rightfully so.
No excuses today-"no students do not go,game is on tv,game conflicts with FB,old people do not go,team is not good, opponent sucks, can't drink, marketing sucks",etc.,ad infinitum. 8000 sounds about right for game of this magnitude.

People have to remember that it takes some time to change perception of a program especially for the younger audenience. Make the tourney this year and you'll see a significant increase in attendance next year if the returning team has another shot to make the tourney. Going to games needs to become the it thing to do for college students and I'm not sure without making the tourney it's quite there yet.

Re: Game 2: Valparaiso (Tuesday, Nov 17 10am)
Does anyone actually have issues with student support? I sure as heck do not. From the last 5 home games last season through American on Friday, student support has been good. It's not the problem.
The overly cynical, fickle fanbase is the problem.
I still get sick to my stomach when I remember the look Dan had on his face during the VCU and Davidson games while he surveyed the thousands of open seats just before the Anthem.
Knowing that fan support is one of the 4 or 5 key factors in his choosing where to coach, this remains a concern for me. This is put up or shut up time for Rhody fans this season. If we don't fill the building and support this group, we honestly don't deserve nice things like a perennial A10 contender and coach like Dan Hurley.

You wonder why I go off on the football fans, it's nonsensical posts like this. Ignoring the major difference between a game played at 10 on a non holiday Tuesday and a game played on a Saturday afternoon. Then doubling down on the stupid and saying we should have more fans then we have capacity for.Hal Kopp wrote:Blue ram, attendance only counts if paid or actually show up?

You know what, instead of for arguments sake, how about we each put our money where our mouths are. I bet you one month donation to this site that the announced attendance today will be higher then the football season average of 4753. Furthermore, I bet you two months donation to this site that the announced attendance today will be higher then Saturday's figure of 2643. Do you accept both portions of the bet or do you only want to do the first part?Hal Kopp wrote:For arguments sake, let's say tickets cost a $1 today and see how many show up vs. FB.

Planning on donating regardless.
Where do I send the check to?
Today is not a party, but a great game between two top teams.
Like Bressler says, drop the litany. Never mind the tailgating or post game get together.
There better be 6000 +. I cannot believe attendance is even in question at this point.

I would be shocked if the Ryan Center is half full today.. My wife and I took the day off, but how many people really will do that.. The casual fan will not be there.. This state does not care about URI basketball win or not.. Sad fact of life.. If attendance is a driving factor for Hurley staying we may be screwed... We will only fill the building for PC and maybe 1 or 2 other games.. Students are the key and they have been great.. I am just thrilled at the better brand of basketball we are seeing and will enjoy the ride for as long as it lasts..

I am not a casual fan by any means, but unfortunately will not be at the game today. Make an extra egg & cheese for me, Blueman.

I'm in the same boat. Even though I'm 2 hours from campus, I never miss a game unless I really can't make it. Today, I really can't make it. I just came back from 8 weeks of parental leave, I'm off for personal reasons tomorrow and Friday, and I tried to fly below the radar today but I got dragged into something that I just can't skip. So I'll watch the game at my desk, sad as shit not to be there. Hope everyone represents for those of us that can't make it today.Taylor Swift wrote:ram1980 wrote:I would be shocked if the Ryan Center is half full today.. BTW, looks like a sad turnout at N Iowa, too. I think it is hard to expect a huge turnout in the morning during the week. This is a for-TV event.

Yeah as expected the offense is struggling big time. This is how its going to be now unfortunately. Jarvis looks like he's taken two shots to that knee already to.

Shit Garrett already getting his knee looked at on the sideline. Ugly start overall. 4-2 Valpo after first tv timeout

Re: Game 2: Valparaiso (Tuesday, Nov 17 10am)
Offense will no doubt struggle at times this season, but remember Valpo is prob the best defensive team we are going to see all year. This was going to be a grind it out type game with or without EC.

Re: Game 2: Valparaiso (Tuesday, Nov 17 10am)
We need to figure out how we can score without EC. It might take a while.

Scanning the building and there's at least twice as many elementary school kids here compared to college students. Wasn't expecting that

Re: Game 2: Valparaiso (Tuesday, Nov 17 10am)
I think someone mentioned earlier, but Valpo is one of the best handful of teams we will play and maybe the best defensively, and we are three days out from losing EC so we haven't had any time to get ourselves together emotionally or from an X's and O's standpoint. I would expect us to be better and our opponents to mostly be not as good going forward.Keatgsr07 wrote:Unless someone miraculously steps up to be a threat off the dribble, the ENTIRE season will be "what if."
