I met him at Charlie O's two years ago when he was in town. I told him that I was a huge fan when he played for us, and asked him how he liked being back in RI. He told me that he loved being back here, and he appreciated how friendly everyone was to him. I then said, I'm sure since all of that hoopla in LA. He laughed. I hope he makes it through this time.

When JV and I were back as ballboys, I never got to race him in Cruisin USA, but I will always remember Lamar as a guy who went out of his way to be nice to you - whether you were a ball kid, a donor, a fan, really anybody. I was 12 years old and I mopped up the dudes sweat, so he didnt need to say anything to me ever, but everyone always got a "hey how you doin," and a smile. ...guy really sounds like an asshole.

Yup, based on Magic's story too - so I guess on all accounts an asshole? Anyone coming here to pile on anything negative about a gentle giant with his own battles is the asshole.

Hopefully Lamar is able to come through this. He was my introduction to URI basketball and the main reason why I've followed the team so closely since that 98-99 season. That being said, I understand that this is bigger than just basketball and I hope, for Lamar and especially for his kids, that he gets better and can lead a healthy, productive life.

One site says he is showing slight improvement while another is saying he's getting worse. One was TMZ and the other was either CNN or CBS. Which one do we believe?

Yeah, I wouldn't dismiss TMZ. They're very tied in with Hollywood. And they pay sources. They had the jump on everyone on Michael Jackson's death. In Lamar's favor is his age and athlete's body.

I was asked by Bob Terino "The Godfather" to post this.
He has been in touch with Jim Harrick, who is with Lamar.
Harrick says Lamar in able to nod his head and attempt to talk,
This seems a good sign, but obviously there's a long way to go.
Bob may go out there himself, but in any case, he will keep
this board informed on Lamar's progress, through Jim Harrick.
I will post whatever the news is, when I get it from Bob.

CNN has an entire program on Lamar right now.
They had Jim Harrick on for quite a while.
To clarify my previous post, Bob called me back and said Harrick was getting
his information from Khloe, who he is in constant touch with.

Thanks for the news Rod, better than what I have read. Praying for Lamar.

I remember Lamar at the statehouse, when the '98 team was being honored. Lamar was with other players that were there. I recall vividly how LO nailed down to talk to my then 8 y.o. daughter, asked her how she was doing and how she was doing in school. I thought it was an incredible thing, especially for such a young guy, with so much accolade. You could feel a genuine sincerity and a genuinely good person at heart, with his actions. I'll never, ever forget. Neither will my daughter who was my season ticket partner at the time, and asked "who was that guy? He was real nice", because he was yet to play a game for URI. Anyway, that was kind of my first interaction with Lamar and I was impressed. And with my other interactions with him, I was never "NOT" impressed. Definitely not an A hole.....i think all twitter and facebook comments will verify that. Clearly a man with incredible hardship in his life that many of us will, or could never understand. He definitely reminds me somewhat of Marvin Barnes in a sense. Anyone who knew Marvin, (and I got to know him fairly well), had a bad word to say about. He was a good hearted guy, who had demons, issues, problems....whatever you want to call it. My opinion is, we all have our own issues and problems, whether we want to believe and admit to it. IMHO, to look down at Lamar, from my standpoint would be hypocritical and very wrong for most of us. He needs our prayers right now, and mine are certainly 150% with him.

I think this says so much about Jim Harrick and his loyalty.
People have painted him as some evil doer, out for himself.
He always struck me as a nice man, in my dealings with him.
No doubt, he had flaws, which ultimately hurt him.
Watching him last night, only solidified my positive thoughts on him.

That's awesome! Even though there were reports of his heart getting better and opening his eyes and all that stuff, I was still worried about possible brain damage. Very positive news, obviously!

I have been hearing these positive reports most of the day. it sounds so much more hopeful for Lamar right now.
as has been said, you don't know how much of the earlier reports of his condition were factual. I hope none of
them were and that it is possible to make a full recovery. There were reports of kidney failure, but were they
talking about a permanent condition/ I don't know, but if so a transplant might be possible. as rod says from
the latest reports he doesn't appear to have sustained brain damage. all we can do is hope for a full recovery,
something that didn't seem likely a couple days ago, so it is certainly good news.

As I said, Lamar has an advantage in having an athlete's conditioning. Maybe not in NBA shape but more fit than 99,percent of 35 year olds. I'm not sure who to believe but most reports seem encouraging.

Harrick coached Lamar in 1998-99. Lamar was ineligible in 1997-98.
