RPI going up?

Unread post by Running Ram »

I know this drives some crazy, especially starting to pay attention to it so early in the season, but I love it. I project we end up around 80 to 90. Our strength of schedule should be pretty good this season, we shot up to 149 with the win over Vermont. Where will we end up?

I don't know if our winning percentage will be enough to get us to 90. Maybe around 100, but what are you predicting for URI's final record?

Not to beat a dead horse, but, if Onyekaba gets eligible for mid month,
a lot of things change.
Thorr told me, without getting into specifics,
they're doing all they can to make it happen.
Hurley wants to win, and can see what adding another bigman
to the mix, will mean.

I'm looking at 14 + 15. And figure several of the wins may just be of the major upset fashion...

I would be completely psyched if Onyekaba gets a waiver, that would be huge!!!

What kills me is how easily we could have had three more wins, at least.
To come so close and lose because of free throw shooting, or an end of game drought.
We lead NSU right until the last two minutes.
Same with Seton Hall, Loyola and GMU.
The pinkhats would have been raving how Hurley was a genius.
I think we're going to do better in the A-10 than I first thought, provided
we don't catch the injury bug from the Friars, and our centers progress.

Bryant at 31, shows how flawed RPI is.

Only for a while. RPI wasn't designed to be an accurate indicator of relative team strength until the END of the season. It doesn't do a perfect job of that, either.

It certainly is useless to look at any of the rankings at this point, as there isn't significant cross-connectivity between enough teams in the data for comparison.

As I've said before, the RPI is meaningless until early February when it begins to take the shape that it will have at end of of season when it is used by the NCAA to award Big Dance invites.

Sagarin uses the term "well connected" to describe the point at which his rankings are viable based on how many teams have played one another. Even though "well connected" isn't a technical term, the same concept applies with the RPI. Until teams have enough connectivity on their resumes, the rankings aren't really worth much.

RPI is helpful only to BCS teams when getting into the NCAA tournament....if you are non-BCS then a good RPI is a "fluke" and the BCS teams with worse RPI's get in anyway....

....it is all political.....what will happen when the big east devolves out of BCS country?

RPI up to 126 after defeating SMU. Strength of Schedule up to 13!! and with the A10 sos as a conference in the single numbers we have a legit shot at landing in the top 100 RPI this year. Even if you don't put much stock in RPI ratings if we go from 250+ to <100 that's significant.

LIVERPI/RPIFORECAST has URI currently at 133. They project that URI will end at 169. That would be a huge improvement over last year if it were to occur.

It's a derogatory term given to, usually, Red Sox fans who are more bandwagon jumpers than "real" fans. Following the Red Sox World Series victories of 2004 and 2007, ticket prices went up, and long-time holders were forced out in favor of business people, corporate types, and more affluent families with "pink hat" members - smaller kids, 20 and 30something women not following the game, etc.

Expected conference record: 6-10. Hmmm....

That would get us to the Barclay's.

I think they are pretty close to spot on.

I tend to agree. 5 wins would put us on the bubble, 6 would get us in.

If we play at about the same level as the last game, we'll win more than that. But I doubt it.

We're not consistent enough yet. Continued improvement might get us there.

OK. OOC I think GA State and Brown are wins. A-10 wins vs., Charlotte, GW, Fordham, St. Bonaventure,
Duquesne, Lasalle. 6 A-10 wins, 11 wins overall.
That's with NO upsets.
Last game of the regular season vs. Mass at home, could be vital. Mass is the only A-10 team we play twice. Odd. We
always played Fordham twice.
So, we run the table in Brooklyn and shock the world!
OK, so we make the tournament...............

It's nice that we can even discuss Brooklyn with a straight face at this point, even with the slow start this season. Improvement throughout the season! A Novel Concept, Indeed!!

The loss of the second Fordham game is due to the Butler/VCU immediate adds. The league wanted to keep the # of conference games the same
