Gil will be working out for the Denver Nuggets today. Any chance of him getting drafted?

The Nuggets' Assistant GM is fellow Lithuanian, former Seton Hall Pirate (how Biruta ended up at St. Benedict's) Arturas Karnisovas.

Biruta just got back from Eurocamp. He'll absolutely have opportunities to play professionally.

Best scenario is he gets onto their summer league team in Vegas or Orlando and the increased notoriety lands him on a Euroleague team next year. Gil isn't an NBA player but he'll have a great career in Europe

Gilvydas Biruta will make a lot of money playing basketball. He has good size is a fundamentally sound player and is a great teammate.

Was pumped when I heard this, Nuggets are my favorite NBA team. Would be cool to watch him wear a Nuggets jersey even if it's just the summer league!

Really hope it all works out for Biruta, he is living an amazing life with a lot of amazing opportunities, he is a clear definition of role model and a leader for young individuals. Talked to him multiple times and could only see but good qualities from him and you can really tell that he has been through a lot and is such a hard worker. I really really hope he gets selected in the draft. his skill will grow so much in the NBA and hopefully someday be a starter , good luck biruta! You've been the man and will continue to be the man!!!

If Gil gets drafted that would be like %@$%$#%#%^$#^#.

Imagine that ? Like he gets drafted because of personal ties and a hint of talent but DH could then sell that on the recruiting trail.

I mean, height is height...

That being said, yeah, it would floor me if he got drafted. He's clearly going to play professionally, but I'd be shocked if it wasn't in Europe. The NBA summer camps are huge for that market though, when it comes to scouting and seeing how guys stack up against one another.

Gil has had a couple blog updates. He says that the Nuggets workout went well and he's supposed to be working out for the Wizards.

Gil played 18 minutes, shot 4 for 4 from the field, and made 1-1 at the line for a total of 9 points. He also had a rebound, a block, no turnovers, and two steals.

Certainly a good performance from Biruta

Great finish by Gilvydas. Not sure what you mean about him not once doing that for us. There were plenty, but I remember a big one against a big opponent: his 999th and 1000th points vs Kansas. Slipped off a screen and had one of his knees-up dunks against the Jayhawks.

I don't think it will happen - but I think Gil would make a great end of the bench guy in the NBA. He does a lot of things well, hustles and grabs rebounds. Has ok size, at least for today's NBA.

"Gilvydas Biruta is gonna walk away from Summer League with lots of interest from several NBA teams — at least he will if he plays like he did against the Hawks. The Lithuanian-born Rhode Island product was a stalwart on the defensive side of the ball terrorizing the Hawks with two steals and a block. He also made all four of his field goal attempts and had a monster dunk displaying covert athleticism. After only one game Biruta seems to have cemented himself as the Nuggets go-to seventh man off the bench."

Ramster, that's not a bad thing, but teams use summer league for so many different purposes that it's tough to evaluate players properly. Like the Bucks had the Greek Freak playing point guard a few years ago, despite the sometimes scary results, just because they wanted him to get as much experience as possible with his ballhandling. I would also expect a seasoned 29-year-old pro and a 23-year-old college senior (Biruta) to do better than younger players, even though their NBA peaks might be way below some guys they outperformed.
