NCAA APR
NCAA APR
Rhode Island has obtained a multi-year APR rate of 941, with 13-14 being the last season counting, which is over the acceptable minimum of 930. This rate calculates from the 10-11 season through the 13-14 season.
They are well above the two-year 940 minimum, with Hurley's first two years making up that rate:
13-14: 979
12-13: 1000
In contrast, the single-year non-adjusted rates from 11-12 and 10-11 were 813 and 896.

All clear, indeed, and the amount of worry, effort, and careful decision making that went into achieving that is more than many will realize.

Re: NCAA APR (15-16 eligibility)
As long as this year's score is good, with the school year now over, we should be finally out of the woods when the 4 year average comes out next year at this time.
That's the last year that God-awful 813 from 11-12 will be counted. I've heard that was actually more in the 860 range after adjustments.
With the 3 transferring out, along with Hare, as long as they are in good standing, I would think this year's score should be OK.

Well aware of the worry, Angst, and sleepless nights, as discussed by many, and most importantly, how Coach Hurley was blind-sided/"duped" by "APR Obfuscation;" also, this perhaps led him to listen to other offers two years ago more seriously than many thought or believed……ace wrote:All clear, indeed, and the amount of worry, effort, and careful decision making that went into achieving that is more than many will realize.
Re-check Rod's (especially concerning Coach Hurley's state of mind) and others' many, many posts about the subject.
A fantastic job by Coach Hurley for following through with his vision and all staff members (academic support, et al.,) in establishing a great atmosphere and foundation for Student-Athletes! to become even better young men!!!!

It's well known here, but here is not everybody and everywhere, in Rams basketball circles and beyond. I also don't think there's much else I need to hear to understand Hurley's state of mind. Former Rams, Elite 8 runs, etc, I'm happy to listen and learn, but I'm good on the other.bressler3south wrote:Well aware of the worry, Angst, and sleepless nights, as discussed by many, and most importantly, how Coach Hurley was blind-sided/"duped" by "APR Obfuscation," perhaps listening to other offers two years ago more seriously than many thought or believed……ace wrote:All clear, indeed, and the amount of worry, effort, and careful decision making that went into achieving that is more than many will realize.

Well, maybe you know, but most don't get
Dan's deep concern over this issue.
His words,"If I ever have another interview for a head coaching
job, the first thing I'll ask is about APR."
Much work and thought put in to better the situation,
all of which, bodes well for the future.

All true, and the other one might have even been more frustrated by it than Dan. There's name after name of guys they looked into and just had to pass on in those first few years, plus guys they couldn't give immediate free and clear releases to. The 1000 and 979, plus 14-15 when it counts, makes things a lot less complicated. Now, all they have to worry about is the new academic standards. The relationships they've developed with some solid schools, prep included, are good to have.

Re: NCAA APR (15-16 eligibility)
It had to be maddening for Dan and staff to have to pass on
players who could have helped, and being forced to
hang onto non contributors.
Manybe now, the APR juggling act can be finally put to bed?

Re: NCAA APR (15-16 eligibility)
Our score for this past season is likely to be a little lower than the 979 for the year before due to Hare imo.
Also hopefully the 3 transferring won't hurt it too much. Maybe not at all?
At least now it seems like they have a cushion to work with going forward.

Re: NCAA APR (15-16 eligibility)
Likely not at all. Matt is the only true transfer and, as he's leaving in academic good standing, they'll get both points for him. Biggie and Jarelle were eligible to walk at graduation.rambone 78 wrote: Also hopefully the 3 transferring won't hurt it too much. Maybe not at all?
Think of all the things that were difficult about the 13-14 season (Mike, Mike, and Jordan), and they still got a 979.

Re: NCAA APR (15-16 eligibility)
Besides the obvious big man recruiting boost ARD gives us, the APR no longer being a factor should help us with bigs in 2016 and beyond.
That's 2 big plusses for this program....any little edge could make the difference.....

The 2014-2015 APR numbers are out. 980 for Rhode Island.
Hurley's three years-
14-15: 980
13-14: 979
12-13: 1000
Multi-year rates went from 932 (12-13) to 941 (13-14) to 947 (14-15). Solid effort, credit to all involved.

Re: NCAA APR
The 11-12 score of 813 is dragging on that total number significantly. The multi-year rolling average score next year should jump way up, presumably.

Whoa there, big fella Rod? The guy just asked a question, a legitimate question/observation. By the rush to attack by you, I think you know what the answer would be...we all do.rodfromcranston wrote:Why take a cheap shot at Harrick?

So we accept the fact that Harrick was never one to emphasize academic achievement in his program. Can you acknowledge that?

Year: APR Score (Multi-Year APR)
15-16: 979 (989)
14-15: 980 (947)
13-14: 979 (941)
12-13: 1000 (932)
The multi-year is a 4 year average, so this year's (989) is the first that only includes the performance under Dan. There can be adjustments made later, which is why the averages aren't exact. Don't let coaches get desperate. That's when things like the 10-11 and 11-12 seasons under the previous coach (1.0) happen.
11-12: 813 (926)
10-11: 896 (952)
09-10: 940 (957)
08-09: 1000 (950)
15-16: 979 (989)
14-15: 980 (947)
13-14: 979 (941)

Re: NCAA APR
That 813 is now history...and what a difference.......Dan won't have to worry as much about academic performance affecting his recruiting.
One more year of Baron would have equaled total disaster for the program...would have taken years to get out from under that.

To add to the above....when Dan was hired he didn't know just how bad it was....and I'll guess even Thorr and Dooley didn't either.
