Closing in already. I think he needs 58 more, If we play 3 more games this year, he might get it.

Again, 1,000 points in 30 plus game seasons, isn't the mark
it once was.
Similar to 1,000 yard rushers in the NFL. When it was 12 games, it
was a fete. In 16 games? ZZZZzzzzz!!!!!!!

Same thing with 20-win seasons .... not quite the same as when teams played only 26 regular season games.

So back to EC. Can we not immediately dismiss a milestone just because things change over decades in a sport?

Whatever. Can't we be smart and know that it's not the same as when seasons were shorter and there was no three pointers?

He's got a shot to do it before end of sophomore season. It just means he is on pace for a really big number which would be good in his era.

Fine.
For perspective, Steve Chubin did it (1.092) in 53 games with no 3 point shot.

He did have a couple of nice looks to Hassan for dunks. It seems like at times he takes the blinders off, but I still feel like everything is predetermined with him though. Don't want to blame him for forcing things tonight as him and Martin are the only ones who really showed up.

I'd agree with this. It's a problem if EC plays like this when the team has better, more skilled options on offense. But right now, he and Terrell (and later in the season, Garrett) are the only ones who can really create off the dribble, and Terrell isn't as skilled as he is at it.

and who did he take shots away from that hurt the team in that game? Garrett, Terrell, TJ and Gil never even got off the bus.

btw, you do realize the impact not being able to practice for 3/4 of the season has, right? you also realize that despite all this he still had about 30 fewer turnovers this year than Kris Dunn?

For all the complaining you do about EC forcing it too much and playing "hero ball", you ignore that this team was flawed on offense on a good day and that most of the time he needed to force it because that was the only thing getting us points.

Its pretty similar to how Paul Pierce was considered flawed for forcing it too much and chucking up too many shots when he was the only thing on some really bad Celtics teams.

Pierce stopped forcing it, when he had two players better than him
on the team, and in KG, a real team leader.
As for that injury, check out UNC's Marcus Paige. He's a first team All American,
and he's played not only half the season, but his entire season
with Plantar Fasciitis.
Um, 138 to 122 isn't anywhere near 30 more.
Small item you conveniently overlook is, Matthews is not URI's main ball
handler. Dunn is PC's.
If you bothered to read my post in the game thread,I asked, "If not EC, then who" regarding shots.
You'd have to be a complete idiot to not think this team is offensively
challenged, to say the least.

Jay--how about a nice poster acknowledging the achievement at the next dead ball after he scores . This would be the earliest you have unveiled one of your posters at a game.

2114 points. He's certainly on a pace very close to that. With 62 regular season games remaining, figure anywhere from 2-6 A10 tournament games, and hopefully 2-possibly 6? NCAA games remaining...he'd need to average between 15-17.9 ppg to reach that.

At a conservative estimate - he'll play 62 regular season games, at least 4 A10 tournament games, and you would think 3 NCAA games. At 69 games, that's a 16.17 ppg average. He averaged 16.9 last year.

If we're all reallllly optimistic - 62 regular season games, back to back A10 final appearances (6 games), an NCAA birth this year and a 1st round win (2 games), an NCAA run to the elite 8 next year (4 games) - that's a total of 74 games, and he'd break the record averaging 15.07 ppg.

For now, we can just enjoy watching one of the better players to ever come through this program in the middle of his career, achieve a great milestone.

He's not done. He'll get 2000 if he plays 4 years here.

He has 2 more years eligibility, if he misses this season. Obviously no NBA next season, and maybe not the season after, either.

Just hope it's not a total blowout of the knee. [ACL and MCL]

That could mean more than a year to recover. See Derrick Rose.....
