I thought North Carolina also used the four corners as an offensive weapon rather than just to stall and use clock. I remember Phil Ford being a master at it, with the floor spread and the defense chasing and Ford making the defense look silly.

Just made a mockery of the game.
Didn't we do something similar when teams tried to slow the game down when we were flying around under Keaney? I seem to remember a picture from the book that came out around 2003 where our players would just sit on the basketball when we got a lead.

This is the book I'm thinking about: http://www.arcadiapublishing.com/978073 ... Basketball

OK this is hilarious, and would be coast to coast news if it happened today.
In 1948, while trailing by 12 points at halftime, Maine decided to sit on the ball. for the
second time that year. The second time was at Maine.
So, while players on the Ram bench read newspapers, a player named Mike Santoro,
played "Silent Night on his harmonica.
Meanwhile another player, Ken Goodwin tried to dropkick the ball into the hoop, when
Rhody got possession.
The ref called a technical, said," this is a travesty!", whereupon Santoro said, "No. It's a harmonica!"
Great stuff!

I know this has become my own personal crusade, but
with a little help from Thorr Bjorn and Paul Whitney, who runs Ram Zone and URI Bookstore,
copies of John's book will be sold in those venues, possibly even by Tuesday.
I think it'll be a great read for anyone who saw John play, or wants to read about
that era at URI, and his subsequent career in Europe and other parts of what seems
to have been a very interesting life.
John teaches English at The British School in Naples, Italy, these days. A far cry
from his days of hanging out with John Belushi in LA.

Beautiful place that John has settled into - Naples Italy
I envy guys who played Basketball professionally overseas, especially in Europe.
Great player for URI and in Italy. I bought and read the book - highly recommend.

Fultz describes the transition to Euro play.
He was lucky in that his teammates seemed to accept him
quickly.
He tried to learn Italian immediately, to lessen the barrier
that comes with not understanding the native language.
I asked him what he drove. He said in his playing days, he had
a Maserati and a Ferrari.
Today he rides a Vespa motor scooter! He said the difference in
his income from playing to teaching dictated this.
Trying to picture a 6'7" 250 lb man on one of those.
He actually lived in Pompei at one time. I asked him if the people in
Naples have an evacuation plan if Vesuvius erupts.
Unfortunately, Italy is not known for good governrment,
and while they have a plan, it's kind of muddled.
