If it's the same as the 2014 tournament it will give us 2 home games against lesser opponents the week before, then a pre-determined "final 4" between the 4 marquee teams. I'd envision Rhody vs. TCU and Maryland vs. Illinois State with the winners playing in the championship and the losers in the 3rd place game.

Of course, I'm sure none of this is finalized, as this is the first I'm hearing of the tournament.

If true this would be great! Love getting into these tournaments - despite our less than stellar effort in Orlando, there's still no denying that its a great experience for the team and makes them better in the long run. Especially getting used to tournament-style play at the college level (2 games in 3 days, 3 in 4, etc) can only help when gearing up for the A10 tourney and whatever may follow in the postseason.

Even though this tournament has Maryland in the field it is not typically known as being a glamour event. The games are actually played in a hotel ballroom with a temp floor and bleachers. The 2014 tourney was won by Northern Iowa and also included Northwestern, Va Tech, Miami-OH, North Florida, Morgan State, Liberty, and Elon. The 2013 field however was more attractive with Wisconsin, WVU, St. Louis, and Old Dominion.

There appears to have been no tv for it in 2014. Hopefully URI will match up with Maryland at some point. Otherwise, the best thing from this tournament will be the guaranteed two home games with no payout required.

It's a travel/neutral court event, which only enhances any life experiences and basketball playing URI student-athletes will have during their careers here. It's a great recruiting lure for those targeted rising stars for the Spring Signing Period. Also, friends of URI Basketball who can afford to go will have a nice destination…..

Hey with this tourney and the tip off tourney at Mohegan in 2016, things are looking up.

Looks like we are becoming relevant again in the CBB world.

123, Duke's in that tourney too.

Could we end up playing them?

Coach K must still have fond memories of our game with them, where Jimmy Jr. lit them up like a Christmas tree. Should have been a W, but....

Orlando was awesome, this will be better. These tournaments are great. Makes you grieve over the 12 year drought we had with Rhody Basketball. Reminds of the Harrick days again.

It wasn't even Alaska Shootout, which is somewhat respectable (or was).

It was the Top of the World Classic in FAIRBANKS in NOVEMBER!!

We played the Gentlemen of Centenary which don't even play D1 anymore, Alaska-Fairbanks, and Troy.

It was barely on the radio, nevermind national TV!

Turn back the clock to read about how we lost to Troy, barely beat the local Fairbanks team, and turned away the Gentlemen of Centenary.

Technology has really made it easier then ever to follow your team if you're a fan of a mid major or lower. I remember even as recently as the old Projo board days how difficult it could be to follow things. Back then you had a limited amount of games on TV, so for the most part if the team was on the road, you didn't get to watch the game. Now you can watch the entire A10 baseball tournament. And the best thing is I think there's still opportunities for growth.

Quick story about this. I am getting married and going on our honeymoon the week of the Cancun challenge. I came pretty damn close to convincing the wife to be that Cancun would be an excellent choice for a honeymoon. She was all on board until she read about police corruption and some assassinations in the area. Needless to say, I'll be watching the tournament in Aruba.

I cannot go to Cancun because I need to be home for Thanksgiving but I do have 2 great restaurants to recommend. Anyone going has got to try Harry's (great steakhouse) the Crab House for seafood. Both are located by the lagoon on the main road that goes by the "hotel zone".
