BAR. I so well recall that game when Penders team blew out PC.
What I remember most was Bonzie Colson finding Kenny Green, over and over again
for dunks and layups. Green had 22 points and double figure rebounds.
85 we won that game by 44 points. Sly had more points than PC, when Kraft took him out.
Size 12 1/2 EEE.

I was there [it was the Civic Center then] too. 86-42 was the final, and it could have been worse.

Re: Rhode Island Basketball Tourney
A pre season RI basketball tourney is a pedestrian concept. It would be better to bring in two top out of state teams and play round robin match-ups for two nights. PC and Brown the first year and URI and Bryant the second. The RI teams do not play each other. Or some variation on this. BTW, having four D-1 teams in the state will not last long. Look for Johnson & Wales to make a move in the future to go D-1. They already have pretty impressive athletic facilities for their level at their Harborside campus with lots of room to expand. The size of just their Harborside campus dwarfs the entire PC campus.

I swear I remember Sean saying he would do us all a favor and take a long(permanent?) break from this board if we signed Terrell. And don't worry Sean, no obscenities needed....you're a dink.

Nope,
wrong again william. I said I would stay away during the "will he or won't he" period; b/c emotions were running high.

I don't want URI to play another home game at the Dunk EVER! We have the Ryan Center - that should be our one and only home court!

Curious: if uconn wanted a home and home; but refused to play at the RC, would you rather "host" at the DDC or Moheghan. My reason for asking is; I think going forward it will be difficult to get top teams to come to Kingston bc it will quickly become a tough place to play.

Mohegan! I really enjoyed the URI games I've seen there. It makes for a nice weekend or even day trip with the casino.

Re: Rhode Island Basketball Tourney
Would be on board w/ Mohegan IF it was included in the season ticket package for URI. IIRC, it was not included in the package when we played OK St. there a few years back.

Mohegan also has a ridiculous food spread for the media. #prioritiesJustns11 wrote:Mohegan! I really enjoyed the URI games I've seen there. It makes for a nice weekend or even day trip with the casino.
But on topic, I think it's also a good basketball venue, and if UConn wanted a home-neutral series with URI there, I think the Rams should take it, given the state of both programs.

I remember that game vividly. Kenny Green was awesome. And it was great to see the URI fans take over the civic center.bigappleram wrote:one of the better memories during those PCC games was when Silk and Tommy ran Gordie Chiesa's team off the court -- i think we won by 25, their fans left at halftime. Great memory.

To get back on topic, I for one, like this idea - as long as URI and pc keep playing each other separately at some other point in the season.seanmc94 wrote:An ideal situation(makes too much sense so it would never happen); would be to hold a "preseason" tourney every year between the 4 teams like the Beanpot in Hockey. DDC and Ryan Center rotate as host sites. Open seating; so no season ticket holder rights. It would be the equivilant of a tourney at a neutral site. Hold it in the first week of Dec. Double header on Tues or Wed. Final 2 games on Sat at 3 and 6. Regular PC-URI game is moved to late Jan or even better; season finale at whichever venue didn't hold the tourney. Ensures that Rams and Friars play; also adds some spice to the local hoops ledger. Create or dust off the old Governor's Cup.

I'm one of the people who never minded Sean in the past. I took several months off from the board. Since I came back he has grown childish and intolerable. The type of kid who reminded the teacher to assign homework.

Wasn't really sure where to put this, but the ideas discussed in this article reminded me of the idea we kicked around here a few years ago.

TP - If we had 3 other teams that are NCAA caliber teams this would be tremendous. For us we would be talking about making our schedule weaker instead of stronger. We do not need to add a Bryant in basketball as it would hurt our RPI.
In Indiana and Ohio playing a four team tourney with the teams mentioned would mean you are in one of the top tournaments in the country.

Re: Rhode Island Basketball Tourney
I agree that there is no reason to do a Rhode Island-only tournament, but if we expanded the scope and did a New England tournament there are numerous iterations of that I think could be pretty cool. Lots of different formats and combinations of teams and places to host, etc.

Re: Rhode Island Basketball Tourney
There is really no way to make this work, not in RI. The only way it would work is if Brown-Bryant played every year before PC-URI, but even that does not work at all.
Maybe something in New England -- but I think there would be too many teams that feel like they belong in that, and many of them are not consistently good. The thing about some of these cross-city events is you are talking programs that are all in the Top 7-8 conferences in the country, most of who are consistently if not always in the tournament every season.

UConn still thinks they are too good to play us......or even PC for that matter.....
And they aren't picked to make the Dance this season either.....

I remember the old ECAC tourneys in the 70s, with URI, PC, UConn, Holy Cross, teams like that. Those tourneys were tremendous. Of course, those were also much different times for college basketball.
