Huge win for Memphis tonight against Chicago. They really needed this one considering 2 of their remaining games are against Golden State.
Munford 18 minutes, 3-7 FG, 2-2 3FG, 0 assists, 2 turnovers, 3 rebounds 8 points

Would love to see Memphis be in the Playoffs.

Doesn't Memphis have to make a decision on what to do with Munford now? I think his second ten day contract is up. Unless they have someone coming back from injury, he seems to be a part of their rotation right now.

agreed. with Conley out and Farmar being a waste, gotta imagine they keep X around for the last handful of games.

If he can keep it up, he's got a strong case for making a team next year as a backup guard

X to be signed for the rest of the season which hopefully includes the playoffs. This may also include a contract for the 2016-2017 season and a spot on Memphis' summer league team.
Way to go X!!!!!!!!

This is awesome, I would think that this gives him a better chance of being signed with a team next season as well. f that happens I might have to get a Munford jersey

What an improbable run for him. He didn't even start his senior year at St. Benedicts. Went to Miami dade community college, Iowa western, then here in this rebuilding effort, carrying the team for two years. Got snubbed 2 years in a row with he all A-10 teams. Gets in the d-league is a backup at first but then starts. Played on the lakers summer league team last summer but didnt get much playing time. This year he turns into a d league all star gets called up to the grizz and has now earned a sport on the roster. Nevertheless on a playoff team!

Yes to all of this. Also, consider that he wasn't even signed anywhere as of April in his second JUCO year. I think he officially committed to Rhode Island in early May. He had the connection to Hurley, and he was tracking Munford, but to have that much potential and not be picked up by any school at that point is something. Who knows how this ends up, but he's turned down international opportunities to play to chase his dream to be an NBA player. Now he is one, and no one can take that away from him.

There are four games left in the regular season for Memphis, three televised nationally: Friday vs Dallas (NBA TV), Saturday vs Golden State (ESPN), and Tuesday vs LAC (TNT).

technically, it is. you can customize a jersey to have the name/number of any roster player. Downside is they're ~ $30 more because they're considered "customized"

Same thing for t-shirts too

Congratulations to a great kid,
who followed his dream, and never quit.
He was my favorite Ram in his time here,
from the first time I saw him play.
He's represented himself and URI with class.
He's shown, hard work and determination can pay results.

What an underdog story. He had a very good short career at URI and then to the D League ... the place of 10 hour bus rides, empty arenas and crap pay. Now his ship has come in.

He's struggled with his shot the last couple games but still played almost 15 minutes in the first half. He had a really nice behind the back assist.

Been watching the GS/Grizz game - Better for X to play good D & assist... Good karma w/ his teammates/coaches more important than his offense at the moment. His shooting will come around.

This is crazy, Munford knocks the ball out of Curry's hands in a great heads-up hustle play, takes the inbound and drives all the way to the basket faking one player out of his shorts...now listening to the announcers rave about Munford, Hurley etc.

Ranked in the off-season (no haters please)

Nice.

The Grizzlies board has a 4 page thread on the signing. Reading it, it's obvious the fans there love the guy. Apparently the contract is not guaranteed for next year, he will need to make the roster, but who would bet against him at this point?

Some comments by Memphis fans in their game thread last night:

BnaBreaker, on 09 Apr 2016 - 10:47 PM, said:
Unbelievable effort by the Grizz tonight...they deserved that victory, and should have had it. Missed foul calls by the refs, and too much dumping it down into Zbo at the end cost us this one tonight. But still, what an amazing confidence booster this has to be for the guys going into the postseason even if it is an L. Xavier Mumford is impressing the hell out of me.

I agree about Munford. The kid is a competitor. I was watching after the game ended while guys were shaking hands with the opposing team. When Munford shook hands with Curry, there was no smiling and fawning all over him. He didn't even crack a smile; just a quick hand shake, a pat on the back and get out of my face. I think he's ****** about not winning the game.

Absolutely. He has the winner's mentality for sure. He reminds me A LOT of Jamal Crawford when he first came into the league.

Oh man - excellent comparison.

Got a great feeling about Munny.

A few of their fans do need to learn how to spell his name, though. It's not Mumford, but they'll learn, lol.....
