TruePoint wrote:The weirdest thing re: Holton/WVU that I didn't see brought up here is that during the WVU/Maryland game, Huggins' daughters were tweeting rape jokes about Dez Wells who landed at Maryland after being implicated in a situation at Xavier. Many felt Wells was treated unfairly by Xavier, and he ended up at Maryland. Do you think Huggins' daughters are unaware of Holton's past? Seems unlikely. So it just makes them and, by extension, West Virginia look really trashy. Which, well, it is West Virginia so who can be surprised.

Oy vey…….

“Prior to me coming here, I’ve never met anybody who was Jewish before,” teammate Dez Wells said. “So I just pick his brain about stuff, ask him about the culture, how it is growing up, different facets of his religion. He’s taught me a lot.”

Not just about religion, either. Wells grabbed Susskind and the other walk-ons after Maryland’s recent home win over Michigan State, embracing them and telling them how much they mean to him and the program.

“In that moment, I just wanted those guys to know, don’t feel like you’re not a part of the success — you guys had just as much to do with that win as we did,” Wells said. “So I was just trying to give my ode to those guys — especially Susskind, because he guards me every day and I guard him every day. He’s made me so much better throughout my years here. So I just wanted to tell him what was on my heart at that moment.”

Not sure if this site has been posted befor- thought it was an easy way to look at some previous players- definitely brought back memories.

the one that always sticks out to me is darrell harris!!!!!!!

ed note clearly not perfect, i don't think ravon harris, mike amen etc are playing pro ball and i noticed billy baron is listed as uri as his school.

in any event, click on the following click and choose ri in school it gives all the uri "pro " players and does bring back some memories.http://www.usbasket.com/Ex-College-Bask ... racker.asp

I was fortunate enough to catch the Regional Finals late March and the BENRUS Pro Championship this past weekend as the Sky Chiefs were very active in the community handing out free tickets to a lot of youth groups and teams across Rhode Island. (My son's included). This was a very exciting fast pace of basketball. Jamal, Orion, Ryan, & Jason were a huge part of success and it was great to see them back playing within the state boarder. The obvious connection to bringing them in was Cory Macchioni who I saw on the teams website worked for Baron at URI & Canisius and also an intern for Rob McClanghan in Los Angeles. As mentioned in the article, hopefully they can get a game or two down at Keaney or the RC next year. Happy to see former player's have continued success regardless if they were under the CFL regime! You have to think something is in the works especially seeing how much Giovanni Feroce advertised his new company Benrus at the RC this year!

I think that's such a nice thing!
All those ol Rhody Rams on the same team like that. Loved those guys. Not sure many ABA teams can get that many good players. Orion was kickin butt in the D league and Jamal looked amazing in his short last season with us.
Jason Francis is huge, I'm sure he had been bouncing prior to this job.

Sure it's the same guy?
He was here 2004-2007. Unless he was 17 when he came here,
the age doesn't line up.
He's listed in URI records as Jon Lucky.
Just asking.....

If he was a freshman in 2004, then it's very possible that he was born in 1986, which would make him 28-29 years old at this point.

OK. Lucky was born 10-6-86.
He was a communications major while at URI.
He got a Masters from CW Post in Human Services.
Guess that could have lead to Counseling.
So, he would be 28 years old.

Lucky was a strange guy, he was here when I was a freshman but wasn't playing anymore. Never said hi to anyone on the team but Will Daniels.

Real life is a tough adjustment for a lot of former basketball players.

I remember hearing he was our best player since Lamar.
Turned out to be slow, couldn't shoot, couldn't pass,
couldn't play defense, and was injury prone.
Other than that, he was great.

Jon Lucky's hometown was Waterbury, CT so that kind of fits as well along with the age.

Very sad if this is truly him.

It's tough to say how good he could have been, since he got hurt the first time in his freshman year, and only managed to play in eight games after that. As a freshman, his stats were a smidge better than Parfait Bitee, so I'm guessing he might have been a better player than him (average A-10 point guard) by his senior year. However, you can't discount the injuries, so it's all kind of a moot projection anyway.

What? Parfait kicked ass his senior year. Much better than an average A-10 pg. Of course he was kinda a shooting guard turned PG, but still he had a lot of great games.
I can't remember the way Jon Lucky looked when he played. Injuries can mess people up more than others. Kinda like Gilvydas.
So who knows how good ol lucky boy coulda been.

you're wasting your breath re: Parfait. There's always been an irrational vocal hate for him from some here.

Cause you know a stat line of 12 ppg / 5 ast / 49.6 fg% / 51.2 3pt % / 79.3 ft% somehow doesn't equal a good PG. Of course if Garrett puts up a line like that those same people would be calling for a statue of him

You think there has always been hate for Parfait (or that SG was hating on him)? There is a lot of irrational stuff that goes on here, but I've never perceived much of an anti-Parfait bent.

I think I remember a poster named "Clamcake" saying that we'd be better served with either Keith Cothran or even Jonathan Cruz playing PG since he did that in high school rather then having Parfait out there.

Ha, I guess it's a matter of opinion. I don't consider "average A-10 point guard" an insult. :) He wasn't a first or second team selection, and I forget the exact membership at the time, but there are typically about 12ish teams in the Atlantic 10. Subtract the guys on All-A10, and I think Bitee was on the next rung down - between the third and seventh best PG, average, maybe above average depending on the match-up. When it comes to URI history, he's more comparable to Marquis Jones, clearly worse than guys like Tyson Wheeler, but clearly better than the Steve Mello and Tyrese Sullivans of the world.
