I've started live blogging, but nothing real fascinating yet: http://patch.com/A-zy67

We're likely going to start a little late. Right now, clock will expire at about 7:35, so tip will probably be around 7:40.

Malone is fouled on a desperation shot as the shot clock winds down.

Official's timeout at 15:56.

Norfolk State 5, URI 2

Malone hits both free throws.

Norfolk State 5, URI 4

Malone has all four of Rhody's points, all from the charity stripe.

URI is 0-for-6 from the field.

Hare definitely is going to be a bit of a project, but he had a big hand in those two 3's by Nik. One keeping the ball alive on the offensive glass and then the other by altering a shot on the defensive end that led to the break.

All things considered, have to be pretty pleased with the first half. Effort is definitely there. Scoring won't always be easy, but between Nik, Malone and Munford we will hopefully have somebody on any given night.

Aaman looks like a great energy guy off the bench, ideally probably a big 3 or an undersized 4. Shot selection is still an issue - lots of settling for jumpers. But the defensive intensity is night and day vs. Baron, despite the team being a lot smaller overall. Hare was the only guy who looked overwhelmed out there, but even he had a couple nice blocks on the defensive end.

i dont think in his best dreams he is ever a 3. undersized 4 for sure, but with hustle, hands and good footwork a guy like him can do solid work in a league like the A10

Rough start to the second half, lots of standing around and the defensive intensity is gone. Good timeout by Hurley, need to turn it back on here or we're going to get buried.

Well, I meant more in the way that sometimes, Terrence Mack was a 3 in a bigger lineup.

Yeah for sure, losing Nik would be an absolute disaster. He already looks like a very different player this year. The key will be consistency, and playing this way even when maybe things aren't going our way.

Pretty disappointing finish. There were some glimpses of potential there, but the offensive side of the ball is going to be a struggle all year. Nik played really well, of course he did still manage to get a tech, and I'm willing to bet it won't be his last.

Munford and Malone couldn't hit anything, could have been a different game if a few of those shots fell.

Brooks played hard, but he still just seems so out of control to me at times. He has terrible hands around the basket, but he did have a couple nice blocks.

So take all the good and imagine it with higher quality players, because they're coming, just not this year.

Would have been nice to get something from Hare.

Dissapointing loss, as I feel like this Norfolk St was beatable. However, I'm going to stay positive because it's the first game. A few thoughts from my first time seeing this team:

-A few of those open shots drop and we're in this game
-This is the most we've seen out of Brooks in his time here, if he continues to improve he could be a key contributor to this team
-Loved the effort in the first half. They really got after it.
-We need Nik to play like that all year if we're gonna have any kind of shot
-Aaman is the kind of player we need on this team, a real tough guy. The dude looks like he just got out of prison. I like it.
-Some bad turnovers, and bad shot selection killed us, but those are things that can change through good coaching.

ONWARD! GO RHODY!

Fun night. Took my daughter to the game and we had a great time. I liked the effort on the court. You could tell that guys were getting gassed in the second half. AAman is a beast blocking out under the basket (needs to practice his foul shooting). All and all, it was money well spent. Hurley is giving these kids a chance to win and the fans something to keep us entertained.

Solid effort throughout, team was not nervous except for Hare.

One solid shooter on this club would be huge, hopefully someone steps up tho there were lots of bricks laid in warmups too.

Had Williams shut down (tho he was really focused on defending Munford) but he finally went off - had 7 in the last 2 minutes unless I am mistaken.

Took a lot of pics a few are decent if there is a way to post such stuff here.

Entertaining night, but the PA announcer is wicked annoying at times.....I'll be back.

How about we re varnish the floor to get rid of the old 3 point line? Looks bushleague.

Damn free throws!

Other then that, I liked what I saw even in loss. A lot of scrappy defense, some good looks as well.

WHO TOLD RYAN BROOKS HE CAN PLAY DEFENSE!? Impressive.

Hmmm....maybe 15-14 [my prediction] might be a little too optimistic, although it's only one game. Munford couldn't hit a shot, that will change though.

Rhody will be in most games for sure. Just have to shoot a little better. Not going to get a lot of points near the basket, that's for sure.

Like someone else said, the overall talent level will rise a couple notches next year, and only increase some more after that.

As long as the kids can stay positive this year, and that's where the Hurleys come in, they will make sure of that.

URI will be top third of the A10 next year, no doubt.

One thing I noticed down the stretch was that the team fed off of Nik. If Nik was amped up, everyone else was. When he began to focus more on talking trash and forced shots, then the rest did.

Hopefully he leads by example.

The overall shooting % hurt us, and couple that with poor second 1/2 free throw %. We/ll struggle with teams with big time inside game. Very impressive on how the defense does force some tempo to our side, not many TO/s. Mike Aaman is going to be good in the post play, defense and boards. Jordan Hare was disapointing, I know its early, but he played only 5-6 minuyes, picked up two quick freshmen type fouls, and was neva any factor. Crowd was decent size I thought for the opening game, and we had some buzz in the building, nice to feel that. Associate Coach Bob Hurley did the radio post game, and did nice job of related the flow of game and what they saw in the early culture change of the program.

-great effort by everyone on the team
-pretty good student turnout, the rest of the crowd was okay
-i LOVE Aaman, 110% effort all the time, works hard on defense
-best game by Brooks in a rams uniform, very good defensively blocking shots and changing shots
-lots of open looks, like others have said knock them down and its a different game
-the two 3s that were more than half way down and spun out hurt
-defensive effort was there, much better than in past years
-offense will come in time and the open shots will fall and the team will be better

it's a good start, wish we won but it was an improvement
