He could have played with Jarvis in his first year at ND Prep.
He was a two star, coming out of high school.

At the risk of getting slammed, could Harris be a stretch 4 that Hurley has
long wished for?
I know PC fans couldn't stand him, because he'd make some dumb plays,
but he can shoot and he is 6'10".

I thought Tyler Harris was garbage.
My low opinion of his basketball abilities made it hurt that much more that he was a main cog in our defeat to them.
Ugh no. Please no.

If you listen to some people, the problem with Harris is that his dad comes as part of the package.

Here comes the deluge of transfers. Many more to come.
Was never impressed with Gordon. A SG who couldn't shoot.
Played good D and was a good athlete, but never lived up to his
WKU numbers.
Did sweat more than Louie Armstrong, though.

Re: NCAA Transfers, 2014 Edition
Yea 2 transfers in one career??? I mean he was a main part of UMASS and they weren't very good. That role didn't serve him well.
Tyler Harris seems to be one of those players that gets in the way of himself. Like his height and athleticism is a curse for his mental make up.

But bottom line the father does not matter to me anyway because I don't want Harris regardless, I always laughed when talk was of him going early to the NBA, can't start for his college team but is an NBA prospect. We can and should do much better.

Re: NCAA Transfers, 2014 Edition
As for Sina, I've seen him play plenty for the last two years.
Doesn't quite pass the eye test.
He's slow, can't shoot very well, and can't guard a telephone pole.
Good student. By all reports, a good teammate.
Just not the right skill set for the kind of defense that Hurley
wants to play.
Supposedly, Hurley still wants him, so who knows?

Re: NCAA Transfers, 2014 Edition
There looks to be so many transfers, that it's like a big player buffet out there.
So many choices. Wonder if Dan has already committed to taking the guys that Rod has mentioned, or will there be some last minute changes?
Will we have 2 openings or 3? If we have 3, then maybe we can get one of these transfers if so desired.
Rod, something doesn't add up with Sina. Obviously he sees something in him that we don't.
Would he want to come here and be a backup to JG? We need someone to replace Biggie after next season, but I'd rather get a 4 year that can develop over time.
Waiting another year wouldn't be ideal to pick up another PG, imo, but I guess it could work.

The one thing I like about Sina is his vision and his passing ability. I haven't seen him enough to see how he plays defense though.

Memphis is losing another 2 guys as PG Pookie Powell and SF Nick King. If we end up with 3 open spots I think Powell would be an interesting option as a second PG

I know for PC source that is close to Cooley that Harris' father called Cooley to complain about laying time after most games. Cooley wants him gone.rodfromcranston wrote:At the risk of getting slammed, could Harris be a stretch 4 that Hurley has

I am sure that would go over well with Dan.
Harris doesn't play defense, is soft and doesn't box out. Things required to play for Dan.

Re: NCAA Transfers, 2014 Edition
Well, yes, laying time during games could be an issue.
Seriously, I've seen Harris play, and I don't get the
disdain many Friar fans have for him.
The points you mention seem to be part of the reason.
Guess you can't teach toughness, especially in a 5th year player.
Pookie Powell is a former 4 star PG, top 100 recruit.
He sat out last year, due to academics, and only played
14 minutes a game this year.
He's from Florida. Despite his high ranking, he was only recruited
by a few schools, due to academics.
Another stud recruit that didn't wok out in Memphis.

cant imagine Hurley is going to sign up for another round of that after dealing with Powell.
and to Rod's point about him being a stretch 4 who can shoot, we have a better one coming already in Iverson

Re: NCAA Transfers, 2014 Edition
Except they don't see Iverson as a 4.
They view him as a 2/3.
He may wind up the de facto stretch 4, only because of his size.
Speaking of transfers, how's Jordan Hare doing?
Never saw his name even whispered anywhere.
Guess not many coaches are willing to take a chance on a guy who
walked away from his team twice.
What about Mike Powell? D-2? Crickets.

Ya, I don't think Dan wants any more guys with attitude issues.
Hopefully Iverson works out in that regard. The chemistry on this year's team was outstanding.
No need to jeopardize it with any more gambles.

Looking at Powell's twitter, he seems to spend lots of time watching porn and is proud of the amount of weed he is smoking. Doesn't sound like he's playing much basketball. It's too bad. Sounds like he needs some guidance.rodfromcranston wrote:Except they don't see Iverson as a 4.

Re: NCAA Transfers, 2014 Edition
There's definitely some reaching in this thread, both with the names of players being thrown out and the certainty with which people think specific names have been identified.
This isn't the Spring of 2012, when they're looking for 8 guys to fill out the roster.
Plus, as some people have just learned, get too specific and too involved, and a school with throw restrictions on a player.

Re: NCAA Transfers, 2014 Edition
There's no restrictions on post grad players.
People are mentioning names, because those are the ones who
have decided to leave.
99% of posters here are aware of the needs of our team,
although, some seem to feel we should go after almost anyone.
For me, unless Sterling Gibbs was looking to become a post grad
here, or a comparable 5th year shooter, it's big men and more big men.
Mike Thorne is huge. 6'11" 270 lbs.
Don't know anything about him. Never saw him play.
He's from North Carolina, so I doubt there was much if
any contact with him during the recruiting process.

Re: NCAA Transfers, 2014 Edition
I would be surprised if we could do better than Thorne. But he could come in right away and anchor down low for us. He's everything we need. Averaged 10 pts and 7 rbs a game last year. He's got good post moves. Don't know if he would consider coming to Rhody. May wanna go to a big time school. Unless Dan can convince him how big time we will be.

Reaching?? It's not as if we on this thread actually are the recruiters.
Kind of how this board works. We all say stuff that is hardly rooted in fact until someone in the know drops some information.

I have to keep my eyes open more often at gas stations.
No lie I had a friend in LA who was getting gas a number of years ago and up pulled Heather Locklear when she was in her prime to pump gas right next to him. I would have melted and just babbled like an idiot. Probably would have started talking URI basketball
