Schedule won’t do URI any favors

KINGSTON — The roar of the Ryan Center crowd has been minimal in recent memory due to the lackluster performance of the University of Rhode Island men’s basketball team. If head coach Dan Hurley impacts this team as he intends to, this will soon change.
Initiating this change is the very strategic art of formulating a schedule. Much must be taken into account while constructing a schedule worthy of national attention.
The Ryan Center seats 7,657, which is far fewer than some of the arenas home to the NCAA basketball powerhouses.
Because visiting teams profit from ticket sales revenue and Rhody has fewer tickets to sell, bringing in the top-notch basketball programs likely isn’t going to happen.
“We have a fan base that wants you to play the national games,” University of Rhode Island Director of Athletics Thorr Bjorn said. “I think it is very important.”

Wow sure does make the schedule sound rough when laid out like that. Great to hear them say that they are scheduling with at-large bids in mind though.
