Basketball Season Tip-Off Event, Oct 30, 6:30p Alpine CC

Tip off the 2013-14 Rhode Island Men’s Basketball season in style on October 30th with a premiere cocktail hour presented by Beltone Hearing Aid Centers. At this event you will be able meet the team, see the team’s new uniforms unveiled, view new in-game videos and join Steve McDonald for the season's first episode of the Dan Hurley Radio Show. It is sure to be a great night!

The event, presented by Beltone Hearing Aid Centers, begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Alpine Country Club in Cranston, RI and includes heavy hors d’ oeuvres and an open bar for $50 per guest.

This is an absolute no-brainier. I'd even consider going to a PC event for $50 open bar. Unfortunately, I'm going to be on a beach in the South Pacific on my honeymoon drinking out of coconut shells so I won't be able to make it to Alpine, but everyone that isn't otherwise busy should make an attempt to be there.

Bress, at least we are having our wedding stateside and not forcing our friends to travel the world to see us tie the knot! Being out of country is quite literally the only thing that could have stopped me from being at this kickoff event. Sounds like it's going to be great. Hope they do it again next year so I can go.

Actually, how long before this will sell out? My fall softball league playoffs start that week and don't want to pay and then miss. If it's a sure sellout, I'll bite the bullet, otherwise, I may wait. Thoughts?

For the record, they wanted $35.00 each, for age 3 and 5 kids.

$35 is not enough. I would have told you $100 for kids. I am charging $400 to bring a kid to my wedding. Just kidding. Kids aren't allowed at all.

I like kids and want to have some someday, but some things are kid-appropriate and some aren't. And I say this as someone whose father brought me to things like this as a kid all the time. Kids won't get anything out of it, anyways.

I disagree. They get social skills out of meeting strangers, and
learn how to act in public at an event.
Of course there is the bad name given children, by some who aren't
taught manners or how to act in public.

I just don't think that this event was ever marketed as a "family friendly" event in the first place. There are certainly events at other times of the year and will be some in the future which are more kid-friendly.

This one really is not one of them from all the messages I have received in writing or otherwise.

I can't wait to attend.

Cocktail hours and kids are generally mutually exclusive.

Two hours per the invite. There will be plenty going on throughout the event... Between eating, getting some drinks, chatting with friends, staff, players, there will be unveiling of the new uniforms, new video productions, and the first radio show of the season.

Either way, it's unlikely this will turn into closing time at Bon Vue Inn on a Thursday night (it's still Thursday nights, right?)

I've decided to drive the hour forty five to go on the 30th. Unless grandchild number 7 is born on that day, I'll be there. I also need some help. Although I've been a contributor for many years I've never really attended this functions because of living so far away. Anyone going want to "show me the ropes". It would be greatly appreciated. RI is the slobone capital of the Western Hemisphere.
People go to weddings and funerals in jeans. No sense of occasion at all.

Dan's always candid, but getting him one on one could be a problem with a
big crowd, and lots of people wanting to talk to him.
