If you follow Dan Hurley on twitter so far today he has said what will be going on at practice today

@dhurley15

Morning: Double sessions today. Teaching defensive techniques, skill work and offensive installation in first session. Non live.

Afternoon: Our second practice will be all live play and about real intense competition. Focus on defensive transition/rotations/pressure contain ball.

Great excitement, it would be nice if this translated to at least 3000 people for the first exhibition game. Can't wait to watch the players but also the coaches and how supportive the bench/team unity is.

Actually Blue Man, watching two former UCLA coaches on the Keaney floor, put the Rams through their paces in 1997, was amazing.
I thought it was a dream.
The winningest player in NCAA history, Larry Farmer, and an NCAA championship coach , Jim Harrick, following
a Midnight Madness that was on ESPN.
Those were heady days.

Hah I remember Harrick crowd surfing at that midnight madness. But when you think about it...we were already good. We hadn't really "suffered" in the way that we understand suffering now.

To go from Penders and the late 80s early 90s runs, up to what Skinner was able to give us, and then obviously the extremely awesome hire of a coach who was a few years removed from a damn national title is something -

but let's be realistic here: we haven't even beaten a ranked team since puberty was the new frontier for me. I feel like I've lived a lifetime since we did anything noteworthy and truly satisfying as a basketball team.

For once...it feels like we might find some actual fulfillment.

Hurley has had success thus far at every level, I expect his trajectory to continue.

Rod, I do recall the Harrick days....yup, they were very heady! Larry Farmer was also a great addition to the coaching staff.

Lets hope Hurley leads us to similar heights.

Dan Hurley's response to me asking about open practices on twitter - @jaycoppa appreciate your excitement about hoops. Will b looking at some open practices soon. Just need to get thru first week. Teaching.

Damn this man is awesome. Beyond the fact that he is so awesomely receptive to fans, that last word: "Teaching." Did our ex-coach even know that word? Nevermind dedicate an entire WEEK to that????

Lucky doesn't even begin to describe how lucky we are to have him.

Dan said that he would be making more information regarding open practices available a little bit later in the season. He tweeted this reasoning citing the need to "Teach", especially early.

College Scrimmages - Why not us?

Unread post by ramster »

Today, Saturday October 20th, there are many 2 hour scrimmages going on that are open to the public for free. Some are offering free T-Shirts to the first arrivals, etc.
PC (Mal Brown Scrimmage)
Maryland
Oklahoma
Georgia State
Kentucky
Davidson
to name a few
Most of these scrimmages are Saturday morning, often followed by a football game (and in some cases Homecoming) in the afternoon
Would be a great idea for URI
Next Saturday morning would be perfect, set the scrimmage from 9am to 11am.......give autograph session, then on to the football game and homecoming festivities. URI used to do this scrimmage type thing many years ago for those who go back that far............even though it was not publicized much at all, mostly word of mouth
- Homecoming
- Versus New Hampshire in Football
- Men's Soccer versus Duquesne 7pm Friday
- Men's Soccer versus St Bonaventure 1pm Sunday

Too bad this wasn't last year. Your son probably would have been able to run the offense.

Projo's Kevin McNamara talks about Dan Hurley's open scrimmage scheduled for Saturday morning @ 9:30.
“We have a few guys banged up, so we need to make sure we have 10 healthy bodies if we’re going to scrimmage,” Hurley said, “but I encourage our fans to come down and take a look at the team.”
