Boston Marathon Explosions

Unread post by ramfan85 »

I apologize for posting this on a sports board, but, I thought anyone not near a tv or radio should know.
Double explosions at the finish line. Numerous injuries, some deaths.
Here we go again. Any place where people assemble appears to be danger of this sort of thing.
The world is going F...in' nuts!

How awful .... my daughter's first day back at work in Boston after maternity leave. Thankfully, she's okay along with a couple of friends who I know ran the Marathon. Prayers for those killed and hurt. What a mess ....

Reports of IEDs all over the area. Police already had to destroy one via controlled detonation.

All who do things like this are psychos and cowards....these bombs were left in trash cans so they're saying...so I guess they were far away when they went off.

Somebody will probably take "credit" for this soon.

It has to be an act of terror, whether homegrown/copy cat or something more legitimate. two explosions simultaneously reeks of terror. scary and tragic.

From now on, anytime there's an outdoor sporting or similar type event, police are going to have to scan or have bomb-sniffing dogs in the area of any trash cans.

You can't be too safe anymore.

And everywhere you look, police depts. are being cut back because there's no money in the budget for them. Not good.

I work on the other side of Copley Square, but I stayed home today because I didn't want to deal with the finish line crowd coming and going from our building. All of my group is OK, but one of the women with an office near mine was still running. I checked the online tracker to see where she was, and it looked like she was about 40 minutes away from the finish when the explosion occurred. I sent her an email but haven't heard back yet. Just heart breaking, knowing how important this event is to so many people and having it end so tragically.

Yeah, I think if that thing is accurate then she should be fine. I'm sure she is just devastated, though. Glad you're OK, Dave. It will be a miracle if it turns out that the damage is only as bad as is being reported now.

Smarty, same here. CNN has run the tape of the finish line explosion hundreds of times, and it's scary to see the reaction of everybody there.

They are saying the bombs were small. Thank God they were. Imagine if C4 had been used, or the idiot was a suicide bomber out in the open, instead of the bombs being in trash cans.

Nobody has come forward to admit to it. They know if they do, we'll find them. I think it's domestic, rather than international. Some disgruntled nut job.

That area of Boston was probably the most cammed up place in the world yesterday. Somebody has some film of who ever did this. It's just a matter of time till they find them.

I ran the last 14 miles yesterday; pacing a friend trying to run a fast time. She finished with a 3 minute PR. We were rehydrating at the Copley; waiting for friends when all hell broke loose. I spent the next few hours trying to track down the 50+ runners my club had running on the course. Luckily, all are present and accounted for; along with thier friends and family. I can't tell you how angry I am that these bastards have desecrated something that I hold very dear. That feeling pales in comparison to how proud I was to watch law enforcement, medical personell and volunteers run TOWARDS the explosions. Selfless acts all over Boston yesterday.

Wow Sean. I know we like to get on your ass in here, but so glad to hear that you and all of your friends are safe. One thing I have to remind myself sometimes is, yes there are URI fans, there are PC fans, and normally I despise them, but when thing like this happen, we are all Americans. That's what is important to remember in times like this.

I didn't think I could feel madder today than I was yesterday. I was wrong again. I heard on the radio that those assholes at that church (I think it's Westwood baptist Church, Ca.) that pickets fallen shouldiers' funerals are planning to attend the funerals of these victims. They are contending that this is all "God's will."
As a war veteran and a "human being,"I'd sure like to get a crack at them if they do show up.

Sean, glad you and your friends weren't effected by that cowardly act of violence. Also, thanks for sharing the facebook event regarding blocking the Westboro Baptist Church from interrupting services in Boston.

I, like many others, woke up even more angry than yesterday, and these bozos are not helping. While I don't intend violence, against these jackasses, I do intend to be part of a human wall if one is needed.

Sean, I'm happy to hear that you and yours are OK. I continue to think, despite how horrible it is to have lost three young people and to have so many people hurt, we are very lucky that the damage wasn't worse.

As far as those Westboro pieces of garbage, they will not have much luck around here. If they want to bring their hate to us, the good people of Boston will shove it back down their throats.
