On Outside the Lines today, getting paid 70k a year for a charity he doesn't seem to know too much about.

As an assistant coach, just what does he do?

Babysit players? Hang out with them at bars?

I guess that's what he's good at. Certainly not coaching basketball.

I guess that's why he's been able to last a long time in the NBA. No academics to worry about either.

Never has a "coach" gotten more mileage out of befriending a great player. What an A-Hole.

The title of this thread made me think he was coming back to replace Bobby Hurley...

at least Lamar was smart enough to make him find employment and not be on his payroll.

That would really fit in with all the negatives we've had lately. Hey, maybe Bunky was right and we really didn't give him enough time.

Jerry D didn't know the plays when he coached here and know he doesn't know what the charity he apparently runs does.

Nice. People think they're contributing to a legitimate
group to help cancer patients, and it went to fund a couple of AAU teams.
Wonderful. And Jerry The Clown sucks away $72,000 a year.
Hope he goes to jail.

Not clear to me that people did contribute money. If its all Lamar's money, then it doesn't bother me.

Well that may seem true but its really not because if you want to pay your friends you don't do it through a charity you are getting a tax deduction for and where the person running it makes more from it than is going to the kids. Lamar needs better advisors, isn't Jerry D supposed to be some kind of advisor to him?

This is Lamar's way of paying Jerry. The problem is, there may be an issue with taxes. Once that money goes to the "charity" it's not Lamar's money anymore.

That $72K that's going to Jerry isn't being taxed because it's supposedly charity money. The IRS may not like that, stay tuned I guess.

The whole deal sounds sleazy.

Jerry D.'s picture is next to the word "sleazy" in the dictionary. He's always been a piece a shit and always will be.

I'm on the boards of a couple non profit groups where the people in Jerry D's position literally works 24/7 and basically dedicates their life to those groups. They are some of the best people I have ever met. For that they make about 30-35k...tops. To make twice that and probably work 5 hours fpr the whole year while the charity is still taking donations on a Kardashian website is just a total scam. Jerry needs to take some responsibility for once, I've never met somebody spewing more religious nonsense and following through on none of it.

The fact that a charity is operating at a loss is terrible. The fact that Odom (charity President) has trouble answering questions about his own charity is pitiful. The fact that he claims he helps people/kids with cancer and can't even answer why the tax returns don't show a dime going to cancer research is disgraceful.
So glad the days of Odom, and Jerry D. are long gone.

Beckett's bowling charity in Boston pays Josh's childhood friend $50K/year which is a large percentage of what the charity takes in. These are non-profit rip-offs. Sounds as though Lamar has one to pay JD a salary.

Yup, a tax free salary at that.

Lamar, Jerry D, and the Kardashians. Makes The Three Amigos look like geniuses by comparison.

It says very clearly in the ESPN story that the IRS audited Odom's "charity" and everything checked out. Its still scummy to pretend to be contributing to cancer research when not actually doing that, but they haven't taken in money under false pretenses. Athletes start these bogus charities to improve their public image and pay their friends.

If you claim to use money given to the charity for cancer research and people donate some of their money to your charity because they think you are supporting cancer research in some way, YOU ARE TAKING PEOPLES MONEY UNDER FALSE PRETENSES.

The charity does no work and gets money; most could care less that someone else gets rich off off them. All charitable organizations must report their administrative overhead. Check it out before giving.
