From the Atlantic Sun Conference - and Mercer finished first in the Standings.
They play tough defense, pass well - amazing how they are now blowing SDSU out of the arena.
They play Florida next - what a great match up - talk about David and Goliath.
Congrats to these kids, their fans, students and Coaching staff
and so glad they knocked out Georgetown

What a great story! What a fun team to watch!
Who wouldn't root for these guys.
They play so loose, it's amazing.
In the Lasalle game all they're talking about is Henderson,
while Galloway is giving them a lesson on 3's.

Aside from "chomping at the bit" to talk about Henderson, i thought the announcers were pretty good in this game.
I'd like to schedule a home game with FGCU. Maybe the coach will bring his wife.

FGCU is such a new school and growing at such a fast rate that many of its buildings are named A, B, C, etc. It is part of the Florida state university system but as it was just established in 1991, it doesn't have an alumni base yet that can contribute funds to have buildings bear their names.

Why would Enfield want to leave? He has a chance to make himself a household name like Mark Few, Brad Stevens and Shaka Smart. And he's certainly not hurting for money. Plus he lives in the best part of Florida that anyone can live in.

Wow. That school pays a lot for their coaches.

Hey, is anyone else getting sick of hearing ESPN calling any non-BCS school Cinderella?

Can't remember who said it, but a few years ago an opposing coach or announcer said (and I paraphrase), "If you've made it this far (in reference to the Sweet Sixteen), you're no longer a Cinderella." I believe that. If you get to sixteen, you beat someone good. You may not have beaten them in the best of 5 or 7, but the tourney is not designed that way and that's what makes it fun. Plus, let the BCS schools consider us Cinderella's and overlook us. I'm fine with that.

To me Cinderella is any team from a conference that does not have BCS football....Marquette, although they do not have football, does not qualify because they are in the old Big East......going forward, if the new big east can make perennial runs to the Elite 8 and the final 4 they will be the only non-football conference to eschew the Cinderella label.....

See to me I would add one more step to "cinderella" to yours twisted. I think it's seed 9-16 and isn't a regular winner in the NCAA Tournament. If Kentucky got a 12 seed this year, it would be hard to picture them as your typical cinderella.

I think you can definitely be major conference and be a cinderella.

FGCU is the most fun team I have seen in person all season though. I found their style more exciting than any BE team I saw.

Seriously to me they are impossible not to root for. That game against Georgetown where they were just flying all over the place with dunks and alley-oops was one of the most fun games I have ever watched.

I just hope it's a close game. Last night's games (most) were over at the opening toss.

I think a cinderella is a team that didn't win their conference's regular season championship, possibly has a losing record in a non-power conference and is a low seed. I just get the feeling that ESPN requires a lucrative TV contract with them to exclude a team from the Cinderella title.
Sean,
I wasn't referring to FGCU when i questioned the term. Of course they're a cinderella.

I don't see any team that is a 15th or 14th seed that beast Catholic Big East Georgetown in the first round a Cinderella because everyone beats Georgetown - how the Georgetown Coach survives is beyond me but he does. Ben Howland and Tubby Smith don't have Thonpson's rules that is for sure.
Gulf Coast did get Cinderella status with the 2nd round win though.

I bet they're being treated like rock stars back home. They fought hard to the end and simply lost to a better team. No shame in that. At least they scored more than 39 points.

Home may soon become LA as it looks like FGCU's Enfield will be offered the USC coaching job. The salary is reported to be in the $2 million range, quite an upgrade from his current $167K salary.

What a terrible mistake that would likely be. $2millon + for one run in March? You get what you deserve at that point.

It is not a good hire by USC and it is kind of sad for Dunk City, but this is how it goes. Enfield does seem like be knows what he is doing, but USC has been one of those jobs that should be good but isn't for a long time and I don't know that he has the roots or the experience necessary to crack it. Lifestyle-wise, though, its probably a good fit for him. He's going to be a rich man with a supermodel wife on a party campus. Even if his life peaks in the next year or two, he probably would be OK with it.

Seems like a big leap for USC. Great move for Enfield, who probably never envisioned this scenario back in October. I think we'll be hearing about Enfield long after we hear about Dunk City.

I love the hire. If we didn't have Hurley right now, like he opted for Seton Hall or Rutgers as some ruored, then I would be all over this guy.
Players love his style of run, gun and dunk.
Very much worth taking whatever riak there might be. You will never hit a home run unless you swing for the fence - unless of course your goal is an inside the park home run.
Josh Pastner and Jamie Dixon both turned down the job at USC. When was the last time USC stuck fear into opponents on a National Scale?
The guy not only beat Georgetown but came back and won in the second round too - you don't get to the Sweet 16 by accident, luck or
by not being a good team.
These guys were quick, well coached, spirited, excited, listened to their Coach and talented. If it was not going to be USC it would have been someone else knocking at this door. His stock is at a high right now - best for both parties to make the move.
