I will be surprised if we don't.....
Maryland is loaded. Would be a great measuring stick to see where we stand, versus the likely ACC favorite next season.....

Maryland will be a top 5 team easily going into next season. Really hope we get a chance to play them.

Let's hope they are good all year and serve as a RPI boost like Kentucky did for PC and many others this year.

Re: 2015-16 OOC opponents??
There was talk about wanting to play another team while we were in the Midwest for the Nebraska game, but that seems either unlikely or makes that portion of the schedule very difficult.
Tue. 11/24 in Cancun against TCU
Wed. 11/25 in Cancun against Illinois St. or Maryland
Wed. 12/2 at Nebraska
Sat. 12/5 against Providence.
It's not realistic to play a game between Nebraska and Providence, so the most likely spot to fit in another game is the weekend of the 28th and 29th, and because of class schedules, if you're playing on the road it's probably better to play a game on the Saturday. Maybe a pit stop in Austin on the way home to take on old friend Shaka Smart's new team?

ATP to stick to a recent theme, I will eat my computer if Maryland pulls a Nebraska next season. They are looking like a no doubt top 10 team. National title talk even. Would love an early season matchup

Re: 2015-16 OOC opponents??
Barring any sort of injury, I don't see Maryland coming close to pulling a Florida from this year. More relatable as Florida was a top 10 team to start the year. Melo Trimble will be in the running for the best PG in the nation next year, and as we've seen, if you have a great PG, it can carry you a long way. Nebraska's PG was who this year? You can only rely on 2 scorers who have to create on their own for so long (Petteway/Shields). Trimble is an NBA PG after next season, along with Layman and Diamond Stone coming in, I'd be stunned if they don't make the 2nd weekend next year.

I believe Jon Rothstein deleted his post concerning the URI-Nebraska game on 12/02/15. At least I couldn't find it anymore.

Maryland also adds Robert Carter, transfer from Ga Tech (former URI recruit I believe) who is supposed to be a major contributor next season.

Yep, like all have said, Maryland will be for real all season. Would be shocked to see otherwise.

Re: 2015-16 OOC opponents??
TCU will also be tough. Their program is getting better. Thy didn't win much in the big 12 last year but they were competitive. They might end up being pretty good next year. Haven't looked at the roster yet or recruits for them, but yeah. Could be a nice win there too.

Looks like Petteway is leaving Nebraska to enter the NBA draft. Now that OOC game will probably be even worse :/

Re: 2015-16 OOC opponents??
I don't know how the rest of the Nebraska roster will take shape, but I don't think Petteway is a devastating loss for them. Petteway actually declined in efficiency between his soph and junior seasons, as it appears he wanted to showcase his outside game and all shooting %'s went downward. Similar to EC's slip this year, but thankfully he is a year ahead and did so between fr & so years instead.Wayne wrote:Looks like Petteway is leaving Nebraska to enter the NBA draft. It could be a chicken and the egg situation where because Nebraska relied on him so much his numbers went down, but I think Petteway also prioritized his development and held the ball and jacked up more threes (at 6'6" he knows he needs to be closer to the perimeter at the next level) at the expense of W's.
Draft Express lists him as the 37th best junior, so it would be a surprise to me if he is drafted. If so, it will be based on body and "upside" rather than advanced stats. EC is slightly better than him offensively based on the offensive rating per 100 possessions on the sports-reference.com site.

Re: 2015-16 OOC opponents??
Yes that game may be worse, but I would rather take a W against them without Pettaway than a loss to them with Pettaway, and I think him leaving increases our odds of getting a W down there.

Re: 2015-16 OOC opponents??
Petteway probably is the player he is at this point, so I'm guessing that's why he's declaring for the draft - or probably more realistically, getting in early on the European basketball game.

Re: 2015-16 OOC opponents??
Sadly, Petteway's mother died about a week and a half ago, following a battle with cancer. This past season was a struggle for him in a lot of ways. I can see why a change in situation and a chance to make some money makes all the sense in the world for him.

Re: 2015-16 OOC opponents??
This thread has gotten a bit off track. I guess that's the result of no news about potential OOC opponents. Does anyone have info on the games in the A-10/ACC Challenge at Barclay's this December??? Is URI involved?

Re: 2015-16 OOC opponents??
Well news on Petteway isn't that far off-topic since Nebraska is an OOC opponent. But the last I heard we are not involved with the A-10/ACC matchup in Brooklyn. I recall the event will involve less attractive programs from both conferences.

Re: 2015-16 OOC opponents??
The teams participating in the ACC/A10 Challenge were supposed to be announced in a presser around May 1st. However, a few weeks ago the Fordham AD stated that Fordham-BC was one of the two games.

If these are the type of games we gave up the Barclays Center for, someone should get fired.

Supposedly the Barclays doubleheader is:
Fordham-BC
GW-Wake Forest
As expected, there are no elite ACC teams participating. Wouldn't expect anything to change with that regard in subsequent years. The doubleheader sounded good in theory when it was announced but the reality will unfortunately be different.
Per their beat writer, UMass is about to set up a two game series with Ole Miss (alternating neutral site games near each school's campus) starting next year at the MassMutual Center in Springfield.

Jon Rothstein tweeted that we host Brown on Wednesday, December 30th. I'm not sure if we changed the terms of the series and will be hosting every year or if he got the host team wrong.

That's dumb. Why would the Barclays Center want that matchup? Maybe Fordham being close is the only thing.Blue Man wrote:Wow. The bottom of both conferences going at it. How can Fordham fans fill Barclays if they can't even fill their 3,000 person gym?

Barclays would be packed if it was Duke playing Fordham - not that Duke would want to take that RPI hit.

According to the America East Messageboard, we do not, as of now, have any known games vs any AE teams (Vermont, UNH, Maine, UMass-Lowell, Hartford, Albany, Binghamton, Stony brook, UMBC).

Re: 2015-16 OOC opponents??
I hope not, I don't like Sunday games during football season and the Patriots play at the Giants at 4:25. Further, the day before URI football hosts Stony Brook. If we're going to schedule a team like Maine, we should look to do so at an optimal time, which would be Saturday to set up a doubleheader, not Sunday going against the Patriots.Rhodekill wrote:November 15...Maine

If we're gonna play someone from the America east it should be Vermont.
Or Albany. Can't remember us playing them before though.
Looks like it's gonna be those lowly Black Bears.
Need to get Iffy goin in that one.
