Re: Jordan Hare - granted NCAA Appeal - can play immediately
So not all bad news today. I think a lot of people here underrate how big Jordan could be for this team. It might take a little while for him to get his legs back, but his level of athleticism is unique in our league.

Fantastic news. The quicker he can get out there and get back to game shape the better. He could be huge come A10 play now.

I'm calling BS. No way a kid who was struggling on campus with access to advisors and tutors can keep up with everything he had going on. Just doesn't add up.

Well, you know, seanie-mc, if it were just URI giving him the okay, your call of "BS" would actually make "some sense." But -- DO YOU KNOW HOW HE DID IN SUMMER SEMESTERS I & II?? DO YOU KNOW WHAT HE DID OR DIDN'T DO WHILE IN MICHIGAN? NO, YOU DON'T KNOW EXACTLY ABOUT ANYTHING.seanmc94 wrote:I'm calling BS. Re: Jordan Hare - granted NCAA Appeal - can play immediately
I didn't know this was even an issue for the NCAA to decide.
Did anyone here know this was in the appeals process?
He sat out a year. Why is this any different than a player sitting
out aseason for an injury???

Re: Jordan Hare - granted NCAA Appeal - can play immediately
I had no idea there was an issue on which the NCAA needed to rule, but my wild and possibly irresponsible speculation is that there was an academic-related eligibility issue involving number of credits, and they argued to the NCAA that there were special circumstances that caused him to be behind his expected academic progress based on his date of enrollment.

If it really was an academic issue, that is not something they would (or even could) discuss publicly before it was resolved. But it is a little strange that there were no whispers about this anywhere, at least that I heard.

This wasn't kept quite, I can't remember where or when I read this info but I knew he was going through the appeals process to play in the first semester. He was always going to play second semester so only the first semester was in question. Think it was a Bill Koch tween come to think of it.

No exuses Adam. I've already stated that with a healthy Kris Dunn; PC takes it's 5th straight by 6-10.adam914 wrote:Wow Sean, little early to be lining up your excuses for December 10th already, isn't it?seanmc94 wrote:I'm calling BS. Glad to see things lining up nicely. I still think Hare has to get some rust off, but being eligible right away means the rust will go away more quickly.

I guess for Sean it's just another case of the NCAA going out of its way to benefit URI. LOL. As we know, nothing could be further from the truth.
I would suggest Sean put his focus on PC getting its players eligible. Seems they have some issues in that regard right now with Ben Bentil's eligibility in question.

I truly believe that Hare was the missing link to last season's success. I'll even go as far to say that he is a keystone to this team and the glue guy we need. Now, he will play vs Nebraska, Kansas and PC. If we enter the season and everyone manages to stay healthy this team is a go for launch!! The whole coaching staff must be so pumped to get this season going. Its going to be really fun season!

Re: Jordan Hare - granted NCAA Appeal - can play immediately
I believe Hare certainly would have helped last year. But I think more impactful was the lack of strong PG play

Re: Jordan Hare - granted NCAA Appeal - can play immediately
Thanks. Hare played well that night. Without his efforts; URI would have struggled to stay within 20 of a depleted PC roster that only had 6 scholly players available. With Hares play it was kept to a semi respectable 17 points. Difference this year? He will be looking up at two legit 7 footers around the hoop.

Wow that's a lot of dunks. I forgot he had so many.
Funny that this board is conflicted on Hare and yet PC fears him.
A depleted PC roster???!!!? That was the first year after CFL!!! We were more than depleted!

Re: Jordan Hare - granted NCAA Appeal - can play immediately
Sean. you posted this on the Bentil
And yet Jordan Hare; a kid who was struggling academically while on campus; leaves school for over a semester and comes back and is ship shape. Online courses with no tutor assistance while dealing with the rigors of being a new dad. Interesting
"US, WE, FAMILY, TOGETHER, FRIARS,"
Sean.
First off: Jordan Hare was not "struggling academically while on Campus".
Second: Online courses have become very commonplace. Top of the line schools are offering Masters and Undergrad degrees online. Even students while living ON CAMPUS are taking on line courses if they are available.
Third: Interesting how when the team went to Italy and Bentil and Chuckwu did not go that most all on your board was calling it a Visa issue. Even your leader, Richard Coren said "I have just confirmed from someone close to the situation that it is visa issues, not Clearinghouse issues that are the problem." Those who tried to say it was NCAA clearinghouse wsere told that they did not know what they were talking about.
Sounds like just a case of sour grapes on your part that Hare is cleared and Bentil is not. None of us are privy to the facts.
As for Hare, his freshman year at URI the game was played at PC - I was there as always for every PC-URI game no matter how dire our team is. Hare started the game, played 28 minutes, was 6-7 on Field Goals (mostly dunks), 2-2 free throws, 4 rebounds, 3 blocked shots, 1 assist, 1 steal, 2 turnovers and 2 fouls for 14 points to lead URI. Powell was 2nd high scorer for URI with 12 points on 3-9 shooting, Malesevic came off the bench to score 12 points on 4-12 shooting and Munford ws 3-13 shooting for 10 points. Hare has had two years to grow, mature and develop. I expect big things from him this year and of course against the Friars.

Yes depleted. No Council, no Dunn, Cotton on one leg. For the record, I don't fear JH. He was there two years ago and it didn't matter. He won't be the difference on the 10th.

Flip the script. If a PC player left school before exams, spent the 2nd semester away from campus(and his academic support) and came back with all his academics up to snuff; you wouldn't find it curious?

Yeah Sean, you know the ncaa always shows the blue blood Rams such favoritism. you dont know any of the facts, yet draw some feeble minded connection between JH and Bentil. Par for the course. I am sure Jordan is shaking in his boots at the thought of facing the mighty white stiff carson desrosiers.

No need to get personal with him, just because Sean pissed you off.

Re: Jordan Hare - granted NCAA Appeal - can play immediately
This thread is about to get a cleansing...
Sean, I'm not sure you understand the point of this waiver. Nobody says that Hare has completely made up all the course credits he would normally need to maintain eligibility. It is probably because he hasn't/couldn't close the gap completely in time for Fall semester eligibility.
If a student is in good standing and a qualifying "hardship" occurs that disrupts their academic progress, a waiver is possible. It would seem that Jordan has been and continues to be a good student before and after this hardship and thus the NCAA feels he has earned a waiver to pick up where he left off -- in good standing.

Read what ATP and TruePoint have written. If the appeal in its entirety was accepted, Jordan's a sophomore. That's good for the team, his development, and roster balance.

The best use of Hare is to play him in 5-minute stretches. Have him run up and down the court, block some shots, get some alley oops, then sit. Rest. Repeat.

Not to revive the PC stuff which I usually avoid at all costs, but didn't Randall Hanke leave school for a year and come back eligible?

Re: Jordan Hare - granted NCAA Appeal - can play immediately
Let's not forget that getting Jordan back immediately is like adding to an already great recruiting class! As a matter of fact it could now be one of the best recruiting classes ever. The added depth and an additional shot blocker is real BIG. Jordan and Hassan playing together will certainly limit an opponents inside game.
