Not a surprise to those who watched him develop last year, although it certainly sounds like he's been working on his PG skills. Maybe we should start worrying he won't be around all four years!

6-5 190 PG/SG Rhode Island So.

EC Matthews
EC Matthews
Matthews was the surprise of the camp. He ran the point and showed terrific athleticism and playmaking ability. Scouts weren't ready to call him a point guard just yet, conceding only that he is a combo and could develop into a true point in time. He handled the point guard duties for his team admirably bringing the ball up and initiating the offense from the top of the key and finding teammates with solid vision and passing ability. Where he really stood out was on drives with his explosiveness at the rim. He also shows solid ability to pull up off the dribble and connect from the mid range. He converted some eye opening dunks and appears to be one of the big sleepers for next season in college basketball. He made a lot of scouts take notice of his talents and has first round potential over the next seasons.Scouts were high on his demeanor as well, as he seems to be very coachable and shows a positive attitude.

Top recruits want to go to a school that can get them to the NBA......if EC can elevate his stock to become an early entrant and a first round pick it will be great for us......

I actually hope he plays three years at URI, not four. That will mean he has two more great years at URI, which also should mean success for the team.

Couldn't agree with you more Iggy and if the team has the success that we all expect them to that means EC played a big part in it. I can see him averaging close to 20 ppg this season. He's already starting to get national exposure and I agree with nbadraft.net on him being a first rd pick in 2016.

And as someone who doesn't follow these mock drafts very closely anymore, can you guys tell me if these sites are usually pretty accurate in their mocks?

They're kind of like the so-called Bracketologists. Everything ends up being pretty accurate, but not until hours before the Draft.
Still, it'll be fun to watch EC rise (hopefully) on these mocks as this season goes on.

Cool, thanks. Yeah definitely fun. And just seeing him as a first rounder right now is exciting. Obviously the exact pick isnt as important or going to be very accurate this far out, but was just more curious if they are at least usually pretty spot on with who gets drafted.

It's way too early for them to be projecting the 2016 draft, it's a crap shoot at this point. Guys will be lottery projections and in two years fall right off the board. And a lot of the sleepers aren't even on those sites. For example, CJ McCollum on Lehigh wasn't on NBADraft.net's radar until right before the NCAA tournament when in reality, scouts had been looking at him for at least two years.

It's a little too early to be projecting EC as a potential lottery pick, but that won't stop those sites from guessing. It brings traffic to the site!

E.C.

He's come a long way- on and off the court- and I can't wait to watch him play and continue to develop this season.

Nice information in this interview- how he sees his game, where he thinks he can improve, what it's like to play for Hurley.

Watching that video...I feel like I notice alot of maturity and confidence in EC compared to last year. Not to draw too much from an interview, but he seems to have the confidence to know he belongs there this year. I don't know, he just seems alot more confident overall.

So lucky to have this guy who is a leader in every department. Incredible young man we have.

I hope Mann doesn't want to get away from home. If he's in NEw England IMHO it has to be at URI. The team is about to be a darling that is led by big time back courts with sound front.

I read where donations to ALS research, comparing a week this summer when this has been going on to the same week last year, went from something like $20,000 to $1.3 million.

Partial schedule on LSU's website doesn't show a Rhody game, but they do have one against UMass.

I read somewhere that all 3 of last year's freshmen have all worked very hard and gained 10-15 pounds of muscle. Notice that a lot of moves that EC is making are going to his right. That's what he was working on every time I saw him before games last year. He's just going to keep on getting better and better.

Thanks for posting this video Smarty, I have watched it over and over again and never get tired of it.....thinking about 2 months from now :)
At the 28 second mark #35 makes a nice pass to EC for a dunk coming in from the left
At the 57 second mark EC makes a nice pass to #35 for a dunk. Does anyone know who #35 is? The two of them play very well together and really seem to click.
At the 1 minute 11 second mark EC makes a very nice pass to #28

As has been mentioned earlier EC is shown in nbadraft.net 2016 Mock Draft to be going #16.
EC is listed as PG/SG 6'5". There are no other Point Guards in the 15 spots in front of him.
The next PG would be at #20 Rodney Purvis of UCONN listed as PG/SG 6'4"
The next PG then would be Tyus Jones listed as PG 6'1"

Great to have a player of EC's caliber here at URI. It has been a long time since we had a player of his ability here. It's going to be a fun season ahead. Can't wait until Orlando for the Kansas game.

Wouldn't Stanley Johnson be playing with the incoming College Freshmen and the guys EC would be playing with would be the group of current College players who would serve as Counselors?

ramster u see 2 clips and infer they are soul mates...i love the enthusiasm!

agree with Adam, first thing that jumped out at me was EC is BIGGER and STRONGER. he looks stronger and then made moves in traffic and in the lane where he absorbed traffic and didnt budge. agree with Ace, that shot is funky, but it works. pull up game is key, if he could ever get close to Cuttino's pull up game he would be lethal, that alone put Cat in the league. was a great shooter off the dribble.
