GORDIE HOWE_NHL GREAT, DIES AT 88

Unread post by rodfromcranston »

Gordie Howe, who played for 5 decades in the NHL has
died at age 88.
Truly one of the all time NHL greats.
One of the most skilled, yet feared players.
The "Gordie Howe Hat Trick" was a goal, and assist,
and a fight.

"Gordie was a great, great man and of course the greatest hockey player," said former Whalers owner Howard Baldwin. "Playing with his sons Mark and Marty in the NHL at the age of 52 will always be something no other athlete will be able to do. His impact on the city and the state was enormous, and the main reason why the Hartford Whalers are still an iconic franchise."

Without data, am guessing the Whalers sell as much gear as any defunct sports franchise...thinking Gordie Howe has a lot to do with that...

Considering how little of his career he spent there, the impact is remarkable. People that talk about the Whalers seem to always get to Gordie Howe and conversations about Gordie seem to often get around to Hartford...
