Sox Sign Panda AND Hanley!

Unread post by rodfromcranston »

OK, now that they've spend 190 million dollars on these two,
now what?
Are they going to trade Xander Bogaerts in a deal for a stud pitcher?
Will Ramirez try to play LF and they trade Cespedes. I hope not. I love
Cespedes.
Does all this money mean the Lester signing is not happening?
Lots of big questions yet to be answered.

Should be an interesting winter. Rod wonder what Bobby Townsend is saying about this?

Maybe Hanley to RF? Where do Betts and Castillo play?
Somebody has to go.
Cespedes would be better in RF, with his speed. He plays well in big spaces, like Oakland or Detroit.
The wall seems to have buffaloed him.
I wonder if Betts and Bogey could be packaged for ultra lefty Chris Sale?

I think the Sox could offer to trade their entire farm system, and the White Sox would be stupid to accept the offer. Sale is a true dominant ace that is under relatively cheap team control until 2019. At 5 more years around an average of $10.5 million (quick math), it's a huge bargain. It's the same reason why I don't think the Mariners ever seriously considered the Red Sox offer of "here is a list of our top prospects, take 5 for Felix," although the circumstances and talks were at least open because I believe at that time, Hernandez was not under long-term team control. If Sale hit the open market today, he'd surely command a contract well in excess of what Lester/Scherzer will get given age (he will be 26 to start the season) and recent performance (his ERA+ last year was 178 and his career ERA+ is 150 ... Lester was a 155 last season with a career 121 ... Scherzer was a 127 last year and a 117 career).
