Derek Jeter Retirement Tour

Unread post by rambone 78 »

So Jeter is calling it quits after this season. Good move.

It will be just like Mariano's farewell tour.

Did anyone see what tickets for the last Sox-Yanks game at Fenway are going for, since that announcement?

Over $800 a pop.

Yeah, I like how it worked out that both Mo and Derek will end their regular season career at Fenway.

I hope it's Yankee fans who are wasting their money. The Jeter hype is going to be over the top this year. Some idiots are calling him the best player ever. He doesn't even make the top 5 Yankees.

Who would he replace among Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Mantle and Berra? And that's not counting pitchers like Whitey Ford, Guidry, Rivera, etc.

Berra and I'm a Berra fan but his on and off field importance can't be ignored

I think '74's list is right.
Problem is all the modern guys will be saying Jeter belongs.
Lack of perspective.
Even if you leave Berra off, do you leave Jeter ahead of Ford or Rivera?

If you include pitchers, Jeter belongs in the bottom half of the top 10.

You can't argue with that top 5 [Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, DiMaggio, Berra, in that order]

Next to Yogi, who is my alltime favorite Yankee (for personal reasons), Jeter is next. A total class act. And I'm a Sox fan.
