Did anyone hear the stupid comments from Dierdorff on the missed punt play?
He was upset that the punter didn't take a knee on the 1 yd. line instead of taking a safety. I think he's been hit in the head a few too many times.
Yes, I was watching. So Dierforff was saying that the Pat's Punter should have just fallen on the ball at the 1 or 2 yard line and that would have allowed them to have 4 plays to score a TD from the 1 yard line - to get 7 much needed points.
As opposed to the ball leaving the end zone for a safety and two points then the Pat's punt went to about the 30 yard line or 20 yard line if I recall correctly.
I was sitting there thinking what am I missing here? I loved the idea that we only gave up 2 points.
I was also surprised that he never renegged on his philosophy AND that his announcing partner did not challenge the Diefdorff philosophy. It is a shame that more and more former players are grabbing the announcing jobs -

Well it's down to 4, and it looks like the best 4 teams are the ones that are left.

If the Pats beat Denver, and get Seattle in the SB, I think they win.

If they get SF, no. SF looks like the best team left.

SF has their work cut out though. Beating the Seahawks there will be tough, even though I think the 49ers are better than them right now.

Agree. Neutral field I like SF over Seattle, but I don't think SF can win in Seattle. Denver did not look good to me today. Don't know if that is good or bad for us next week......

Denver kept SD in the game with their mistakes. If you let a team hang around, they might beat you. Almost happened.

If they do that next week, the Pats win.

The Seahawks are less scary away from home, so if
they make the Superbowl, they'll be playing in cold NJ,
with their fans needing to go cross country.
I think they'll beat SF in a grinder.
These games were not exciting at all. Not a single lead change
in four games.
I thought SD had a good chance going into yesterday's game.
Guess not.
The new battering ram Pats can eat clock, now and depend less on
their receivers. Brady has no down field threats, anyway.
The longer the Pats can hold onto the ball, the less Manning can go through
his behind the line histrionics. OMAHA! OMAHA!

I think QB's like Manning need to change their calls at the line.

No more Omaha's and the like.

More like Titties! Titties! Boobies! Boobies!

Make the other team lose their concentration, even if only for an instant. Might make the difference.

I think it's a genius concept!

Yes. It's a 2 man game, like Jai Alai. No one else matters.
Hopefully, Peyton will be saying "Oh My God" instead of OMAHA and Brady can hold onto the ball for 60 minutes. A real long drive.

I'm curious to see what the Patriots will do in this one. On one hand, they could run Blount all day and try to keep Manning on the sidelines. On the other hand, I could see the Broncos being all geared up for the run and Brady comes out and the first seven plays are passes. Never know with this team - either way I like their chances.

There will be. points. scored. A lot of them.

I think it will come down to the final gun.

If this was at Gillette, Pats win hands down. It's not, however.

I keep going back to the Jets and Panthers games. I wish we had 1 more win. Idon't think they can win in Denver, especially with Manning having a full set of receivers. But, I've been underestimating this team all year.
Whatever happens, I'll be rooting for the winner. I don't (personally) like either NFC team.

The Pats could be in trouble, if they fall asleep while Peyton is yelling "Omaha!".

It was mentioned that he yelled it 42 times in the game yesterday. Seemed like more than that.

Even the city of the same name, along with Omaha Steaks, tweeted thanking him.

Sign that we're in the end of days:

"After hearing Peyton Manning yell "Omaha" more than 40 times at the line of scrimmage during Sunday's victory over the San Diego Chargers, an official with Omaha Steaks says the company is considering offering the Denver Broncos quarterback an endorsement deal that could include calling out its name during the big game.

"Omaha Steaks is always looking for awesome promotional opportunities that get our brand in front of customers and potential customers," said Todd Simon, a senior vice president at the company his family owns. "So if the economics were right, Omaha Steaks would consider a deal with Mr. Manning, especially given his apparent affinity for Omaha."

I'm almost positive that if he tried to do this, the NFL would quash the deal. It wouldn't surprise me if it was an SNL skit at some point though.

Mathew "freakin' Slater??? Are you kidding me? Why is he even in the league?
I predicted a Broncos win (45-17) before the game. Unfortuntely, it may be close to that.
Yoy can always count on Talib to be injured in a championship game. I wouldn't break the bank to sign him. So, here we are again. 7th round draft picks against Manning in a championship game.
I hate hearing Simms do the games. Brady misses an open receiver and we hear how the wind must have taken it. When is Brady going to realize that he can't throw deep?

The losses on the defensive side of the ball and lack of a WR who can stretch the field(like Demariyus Thomas) finally reared it's ugly head. McCourty has looked awful, Gregory is one of the worst safeties in the NFL, both out of position over the top and missed tackles numerous times, zero pressure on Manning and not getting off the field on third down were the biggest reasons the lookd so bad today. Hopefully BB drafts a high rd safety and WR who can stretch the field. The rest will fall into place with the hurt guys coming back.

Where's the "hurry up" offense?
Bronco's getting a player hurt on every play (but returning a few plays later. ) I wonder if it's intentional?
I'm upset now, but tomorrow I'll realize that the Pats went a lot further this year than anyone had a right to expect.
What will happen first: URI gets a pg or Pats get a quality DB?
I'll have to check the Rutgers roster to see if they have any good db's for the Pats.

Yeah no doubt that they probably had no business even getting this far. And this is from someone who despises the Pats. Credit where credit is due though for getting to this point with that team. If the weather is bad as they say for the Super Bowl, Denver loses no matter who they play.

Seattle beats the 49ers. If the weather is good, Manning gets his 2nd Super Bowl.

Pats problem is their defense, they suck. Injuries or not. If Brady had more time, he would win. If he's not on the field, he can't win. Simple as that.

Pats have a lot of work to do if thet want to get past this game to the SB:
Get some big DB's. And not in the 7th round.
Dump Gregory.
D line.
Re-sign Edelman, even though they hate to spend money.
Dump Gregory ,again.
Get a good deep threat (Even though Brady won't be able to reach him).
Tight ends.

I hope Denver wins. Can't stand Seattle.

Agree completely.

I think signing Talib is imperative if a physical shows his hip should be able to hold up. It's no coincidence that the Patriots struggled big time in the last two AFC Championship games once Talib went out. For those that don't want to resign him, what's your plan to replace him?

The game changed when Talib went out.
He's clearly their most valuable D-back.
I think they need another pass catching tight end, to back up Gronk.
As has been the case since Moss was traded, they need an outside
WRspeed threat. Preferably one over 6' tall.

Rod I still think the author's point stands that there is more to him than the interview (which is the only thing anyone will want to talk about referencing him in these next two weeks).
Sherman graduated from Compton's Dominguez High School with straight-A grades -- better than straight-A grades, actually, thanks to all the advanced placement classes he insisted on taking. Raised by a father who works as a garbage man and a mother who teaches disabled children, Sherman chose to go to Stanford to play football because of its academic reputation. His charity, Blanket Coverage, is impressively specific: It focuses solely on providing school supplies for inner-city kids, making sure they have the most updated textbooks and materials. Unheralded by the pros after he requested, before his junior year, to be moved from the glamour position of wide receiver to cornerback, he has worked his way into one of the best corners by force of will. The man is a state of matter. He is absurdly smart. He is an inspiration. (Most of these details taken from this terrific Jon Wilner story in the San Jose Mercury News from September.)
Did he show impressive professionalism? Not exactly, but sometimes that's what you get when you approach someone a few minutes after making a huge play to seal the biggest win of his career. Fox went to him looking for a sound bite after the game and that's what they got.

You could say that Talib is the only quality db in NE. I don't blame any player for getting injured. But, teams will be leary of giving a big contract to a player who is constantly injured. The NFL isn't like MLB.
I hope Talib stays here. I love the guy. What he does have in his favor is the fact that he is so good at a position where there aren't many shut down players. He also adds a toughness that has been lacking in past years on the Pats.
Yesterday's game was just another example of the Pats' season. Just pick a player they absolutely can't afford to lose and you can guess what's going to happen.
How this team got to the championship game (AFC) with everything they had to deal with is something I'll always admire.

On a different note, I'm convinced that Stanford has a class on "How to Properly Give The Choke Sign."

The early weather forecast for the Super Bowl is around 37 degrees, with a chance of snow or rain showers.

For Denver to win, they need that forecast to hold, or improve maybe a little.

Looks like most of the country, except the Pacific Northwest of course, is rooting for the Broncos.

Well, Pats fans, Darelle Revis is about to be cut by the Bucs.

He won't come cheap, but if you want a better secondary, he could be yours.

There's a lot of talent out there that's available or about to be. I know the Pats have salary cap issues, but Kraft's no dummy, him and his people will figure something out.

We'll see just how serious they are about wanting to win another SB for Tommy Boy. Or just settle for making the playoffs in a crap division again.

Wow - That's a big blunder that the Bucs have to cut Revis a year after trading for him.

The NFL's revenue sharing numbers came in higher than expected this year, so each team (reportedly) got an extra $7M to play around with. The reference site used by the stats guy at Grantland has them with $14.4M in cap space.

They will have more if they cut Wilfork. He was due to make 11.7 million this year.

I think they cut him. The Pats treat things like it's a business [which it is] and it's worked for them quite well. Wilfork isn't getting any younger, and coming off that type of injury for a [very] big man is tough.

$16 million is a ton of money for a CB. I get why the Bucs had to cut him, but then yeah it makes you wonder why they made the deal in the first place. But new coach, that $16 million can go a long way in filling other holes.

I know everyone wants the Patriots to sign a big name free agent, and Revis is a great player, but the Patriots don't play a lot of man coverages so I wonder if this is the best fit. Meaning, I don't know if it is worth paying market price for a shutdown corner then playing him in a zone scheme - seems like a waste. On the other hand, do they want to restructure their whole defensive approach to accommodate one guy? They acquired their defensive personnel to play certain concepts. Would they have to hit the reset button or play too many guys in roles they weren't brought into play?

Also, they won't cut Wilfork. I could definitely see them restructuring Wilfork and clearing some space that way, but I'd have to think Wilfork will be open to redoing his deal.

You might be right. Wilfork has to know no one will pay what he was making as a Patriot.

As for Revis, he's not going to get 16 million a year anymore. He's still good, but not happening. If he's willing to take, say 8 mil a year, someone's going to get a pretty good player.
