URI first visit to UNH's new stadium (renovation of old Cowell Field). Wildcat Stadium, opened in 2016, has a seating capacity of 11,015, up from the 6,500 of Cowell Stadium. The new building has four suites, 512 Victory Club seats, 864 box seats

They have half of a nice stadium. The other half is still a dump. I hate fields with tracks around them.

URI would be ecstatic to have the "half" stadium that UNH has. #1 issue with the program is facilities; you'll lose the recruit every time to the shinier object.

A reminder on how the vast amount of Wildcat Stadium was paid for:

"Q: How is the project being funded?
A: The stadium project is expected to cost $25 million and is slated for completion in August 2016. The university is committed to raising at least $5 million in private support and it will leverage internal borrowing for the additional $20 million. UNH will be paying the loan back over the next 20 years at the prevailing treasury rate.

Q: Is state money being used to fund this project?
A: No state dollars will be used for the new stadium. No state dollars were used to finance the Whittemore Center in 1993. A key component for this project is that at least 20% of the total cost will be privately raised with the remainder coming from internal borrowing. Internal borrowing against unrestricted net assets is a prudent way to finance capital projects and has been used by our campuses for decades."

$500,000 for lights came from New Hampshire in the form of capital improvement money, $1 million for the scoreboard, controversially, came from a private gift to UNH from a school librarian, $5 million should have been privately fundraised, and $20 million was borrowed. Could we use the same financing structure they used? Could we raise 20% of the funds needed to improve Meade?

How did UNH get all those recruits when they were playing in an awful stadium for the past 25 years? Facilities are important and URI needs to get the stadium fixed, but it is not the only issue.

To Rhowdys question-answer -yes,could raise the 20%.
2 caveats-1. would need to be part of capital campaign.
2. would have to include all athletic and recreation needs-track facility,etc..
(my take).

Uncle Ed

They out recruited us because they had a better program then we did even 25 years ago. Meade Stadium except for the small addition is exactly the same.

New Hampshire up 15-0 at the half. Not sure why Steve McDonald said UNH always goes for two.

Who is calling these plays? Another long pass into double coverage and as easy interception.

The biggest difference in these teams is coaching and believing you can win. After URI makes it 15-14, UNH scores on the long pass on 3rd and 13, where the wide receiver is being covered by a linebacker. URI responds with a penalty on the kick return and then promptly goes 3 and out. Not good.

Agree. The play calling baffled me at times. Runs up the middle went nowhere and it seemed like they knew what was coming. Several passes went to guys triple covered.

Nice looking joint though. Even if the scoreboard was bought with money jacked from a late librarian.

over 22,000 for homecoming. Where did they all sit? UNH stadium, even with improvements , only holds 11,000?

NH spends less on UNH than RI at URI, and UNH never complained about the cost, or that it would drop down a level to reduce cost.

Here are Rhode Islands rankings in offensive and defensive categories compared to the other teams in the CAA so far through 4 games:

OFFENSE
Scoring offense: 11/12
Rushing offense: 12/12
Pass offense: 3/12
Total offense: 7/12

DEFENSE
Scoring defense: 10/12
Rushing defense: 9/12
Pass defense: 11/12
Total defense: 10/12

Turnover margin: 12/12 (-6)

I will say I think the defense has performed better than those numbers show. They are put in a lot of tough positions.

Total offense: 5/12

DEFENSE
Scoring defense: 10/12
Rushing defense: 4/12
Pass defense: 11/12
Total defense: 9/12

Turnover margin: 10/12 (-4)
